DAMON~

"I see you’ve been keeping your promise," Dr. Grace said with a warm smile as she removed the brace from my arms. I returned her smile, I stepped off the hospital bed felt managed to be both hard and soft at the sa ti, and walked over to the corner where I had left my jacket.

"A man always keeps his promise," I quoted my father while slipping my weary arms into the jacket.

"True," she replied, smiling as she wrapped up the brace and placed it back in the wooden drawer next to the bed. A calming silence fell over us as I looked around the room that had begun to feel like a habitat for , I let out a sigh, feeling the weight of a question that had been on my mind since leaving the comfort of my ho.

"Can I ask you sothing?" I broke the short silence, and she turned to without speaking, which I took as encouragent to continue.

"How long do I have left?" Upon hearing the question, she froze, remaining still without looking my way.

"I can’t answer that," she said.

"Why not? The symptoms are starting to show, you know." She remained quiet, arranging whatever it was that seed to consu the bulk of her attention.

"My nose started bleeding when I was Lucas today and the headaches are now a constant in my life. If I raise my voice too loud or hear a sound that just strains my ears a little bit it starts to feel like my head is being pounded. I know I’m not gonna make it, I know sooner or later I’m gonna leave everything behind but I need to know how soon."

"Ignorance is bliss, Damon." She replied, finally turning to look at with a saddened look on her face.

"Not for this. Maybe you haven’t given up on but I’ve given up on . I just wanna know how long I have to do right by the people I’ve wronged." I replied to her.

Hearing the utter and total lack of hope that resonated deep in my voice, the saddened look on her face worsened but when she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath of air she no longer had the look on her face instead there was now the blank professional stare I had gotten so accustod to.

"Follow ," she instructed, her voice firm yet composed. Without waiting for a reply, she strode confidently out of the room and into the dimly lit hallway. The door swung shut behind her with a soft click, and Carlos instantly straightened up, eyes wide with surprise as he caught sight of her erging from the room, with trailing closely behind.

"Is everything okay?" he inquired, a hint of concern creeping into his tone. I offered a nod in reassurance, even though I was equally uncertain about what was happening. We continued to walk down the not-so-bustling corridors of the hospital, the distant sounds of beeping monitors and murmured conversations surrounding us. It was quiet, almost too quiet for my liking, making realize how much I truly hated hospitals as we headed directly to her office.

As we stepped into her workspace, she firmly shut the door behind us, the thud echoing slightly in the enclosed space. She walked briskly towards her cluttered desk, exuding an air of purpose that made curious about the significance of our sudden eting. "Why are we here?" I finally asked, my curiosity piqued. I was eager to understand her motivations for dragging us from the cozy confinent of the previous room to this more formal setting.

However, she didn’t respond right away. Instead, she began rifling through the papers and notes that seed to be haphazardly scattered across her desk. It was clear that she was searching for sothing specific, yet the more she scanned the surface of her cluttered workspace, the more I sensed the tension in the air. Carlos, sensing an opportunity to get so answers, opened his mouth to speak, but I quickly raised a hand, signaling him to hold his question. She seed preoccupied, and I figured if she had anything to say, she would do so on her own terms.

Ti dragged on as we waited in silence. The atmosphere felt charged with anticipation as she continued her ticulous search, leaning over her desk and pulling papers aside with growing frustration. After what felt like an eternity, she finally shifted her focus to the back of the table. She settled into her chair and began thodically opening each of the three drawers beneath her desk, taking her ti to sift through their contents one by one.

"What—" Carlos began again, his curiosity clearly getting the better of him, but once more, I raised my hand and shot him a warning glance. There was a palpable tension in the air, and at that mont, it felt crucial to let her continue without interruption. I could see that she was on the verge of finding whatever it was she had been looking for, and I just hoped it would shed so light on our unexpected gathering. After a nerve-wracking delay, she finally unearthed sothing from one of the drawers, and I could feel the anticipation in the room shift as she prepared to share what was undoubtedly important news.

In her hands, she held a small pill container and stared at it for a long while before she turned to .

"You have a month, maybe less." She said, My heart sank at the sound of her voice but I maintained composure as I stared at her.

"Fuck." I said with a forced chuckle in an attempt to look strong but she saw through my attempt and walked towards .

"This was a last resort but at the very least you’ll be you in your final monts." She said as she placed the container in my palms.

"What are these?" I asked as I looked back at her.

"These are the pills you’re ant to take two weeks before the surgery."

"I’m not getting the surgery." I reminded her.

"I know." She assured , gripping tightly onto my hands "You take one every day for fourteen days and they draw out the maximum capabilities of your werewolf cells and boost your body’s innate functions."

"That sounds too good to be true. What are the repercussions?"

"After the fourteenth day, your cells are dead." She said and imdiately I heard those words a cold shiver ran down my spine and I felt my body suddenly weaken. Those cells were what differed from a regular man so if they were all killed off wouldn’t that make just—A human?
