DAMON~
He supported up the stairs, my tired beaten-up body sluggishly being helped up every step as we ascended out of the crate.
"Alpha!" Carlos shouted, worried as he saw how badly my face was bleeding, he rushed towards and violently shoved Jermaine away from but caught before I could fall to the ground.
"What the fuck?" He yelled angrily, I heard the clicks of guns as countless barrels were aid at us.
"Relax." I groaned then turned my attention back to Jermaine who had a cheeky grin on his face, Carlos still hadn’t backed down, his hands still carefully reaching for the blade hoisted on his waist.
"Your man’s really brave," Jermaine comnted as he walked closer to Carlos and stood in front of him.
"That’s a bad idea." He warned quietly, Carlos ground his teeth in frustration but was smart enough to know that he was right. He stopped reaching for the blade and helped up properly.
"Smart choice." He teased as he walked past us.
"You ok?" Carlos whispered into my ear, I turned my beaten face to him.
"Yeah."
"Are we good?" I groaned as I pushed myself off Carlos and tried to stand without support, my body ached badly, and without a doubt, I had several broken bones but I pushed through.
"Does it matter?" He replied blankly.
"It does," I said as I limped forward and extended a hand toward him, he looked at my hand for a few seconds then looked at then his eyes turned back to my extended hand.
"We were good the mont I landed the first punch." He said with a mischievous grin.
"Then why the fuck did you continue?" I whined, and he chuckled before he replied.
"I’ve always wanted to beat your ass."
"Fuck you." Carlos cursed angrily as he tried to reach for his blade but imdiately the gentle clicks of guns being pointed in our direction resonated through the space.
"Shit," Carlos grunted as he took his hand off the hilt of the blade and helped stand.
"Y’all gotta chill out." Jermaine chuckled.
——
I jamd the door of the car and rested my back in the unusually uncomfortable seat of the car.
"You ok?" Carlos worriedly asked.
"I’m fine, a lot better than when I ca here in fact," I admitted as I let out a deep sigh.
"I’ll take your word for it," Carlos said hesitantly as he turned the key of the car and the car ca to life with a vibrant roar.
"Where to?"
"Doctor Grace, I can’t go back to the pack looking like this." I groaned as I pressed my hand to my side to stop the aching pain, it didn’t work.
"Ok." He shifted the gear from the park when I heard a gentle knock on my window, I turned my head and saw Jermaine. I whined the window down and he leaned into the opening.
"What’s up?" I asked, curious as to why he was talking to .
"I’m handing over ownership of the pack to Simon tomorrow." He answered dryly.
"Do they know?"
"Yeah."
"So what’s up."
"Am I welcod at Howlcreek?" He asked, his voice choked as he tried to push through his own pride.
"You don’t need to ask."
"Aight fam." He said as he stepped back.
"We’ll see later," I said as Carlos drove away and he gave a nod of acknowledgent.
——
"Really?" Grace said in astonishnt as she cleaned off my wounds.
"Yeah," I said my body tense as I tried to ignore the stinging pain of the cuts I got from Jermaine’s punches.
"Must you settle things in such brutish ways?" She asked as she put down the wool and picked up a small roll of bandage.
"It had to be done," I grunted as she purposely pressed against a spot I said hurt.
"Sorry." She said, I shot her a glance but she ignored .
"I agree with her," Carlos interjected, I turned my eyes to him and he imdiately focused back on the magazine he had been reading.
"You can’t pull stunts like these anymore." She warned as she patched up a cut next to my eyebrows.
"I know, but it was necessary." She sighed as she heard my response.
"I know you’re on a journey of recovery or whatever but I need you to actually put effort into bettering your health, so please no more taking punches to prove you’re sorry." I knew she was serious but I couldn’t help but chuckle.
"I get it but I will if I can’t help it," I said with a cheeky smile, she squinted her eyes wanting to say sothing but knew her words wouldn’t get through to so she just tapped my shoulder and said.
"Get off my bed I’m done."
"Thanks, doc, I don’t give you enough credit." I praised as I skipped off the bed, my body still hurt but after the treatnt she had just given it hurt a little less.
"You can thank by reducing how much we interact." She joked but I knew that she ant it, Not that she was tired of treating but she was just genuinely worried about my health which seed to worsen every ti we interacted.
"Do you have children?" I asked her, she turned to with a look of surprise, my abrupt question catching her off guard.
"No." She said
"You didn’t want kids?" At this point, Carlos had also begun wondering why I was asking this question as he pointedly looked at with a confused look on his face.
"He died." She replied coldly, and there it was, that was the reason she put up with and my careless antics.
"I’m sorry, do I remind you of him?" I asked, knowing full well I was well past the line.
"More than you know." She chuckled sadly as tears began to fill her usually blank eyes.
"I’m sorry for putting you through that, I’ll try harder so you won’t have to see die," I said, and I ant every word.
"Carlos, let’s go," I said, he bounced his seat gave her a gentle nod, and followed as we exited the room.
