Chapter 50: Chapter 50 – Now that’s my girl
"Which way?" Voren asked, his voice already stripped of hope, his patience thinning by the second as every single suggestion Ravyn had thrown out so far had led them absolutely nowhere.
Ravyn did not answer right away. Instead, he gave a slow, unsettling smile, pulled out his phone, and tapped the screen until a number lit up. He turned on the speaker and leaned back like he was about to watch a show instead of walking into another disaster. "You’ll see."
The call rang once, then twice. On the third ring, a familiar voice finally ca through, heavy with boredom and mild irritation.
"Ravyn, what is it this ti?" His father’s tone alone made Ravyn’s jaw tighten, but he forced himself to inhale deeply before speaking.
"Dad," Ravyn said, pacing the room while Voren watched him closely, "Daisy accidentally sent our sex video to Seraphine, and can you believe she made it viral?"
There was a pause on the line, long enough that Ravyn started to hope, just for a second, that maybe his father was actually too shocked or disgusted by Seraphine’s behavior.
Then Humphrey spoke, calm and disturbingly detached. "I would have taken back my investnt from her if she hadn’t."
Ravyn nearly choked on his own saliva. Perhaps there was soone else speaking through his father or was it old age? Voren did not seem surprised but Ravyn was not taking it easy.
"What?" he sputtered, stopping mid-step. "What are you implying, Dad? Don’t you care about my image anymore? I told her to take it down, and she’s charging
two billion. Two billion. I an, who does that?"
Humphrey sighed, and sohow that sigh carried relief instead of concern.
"Now that’s my girl," Humphrey said proudly, Voren raised a brow as the man at the end of the line continued. "But that money isn’t even enough to cover the alimony you denied her. I’ll call her and tell her to quadruple the amount."
Ravyn froze. "Dad—wait—please," he said breathlessly, panic finally breaking through his arrogance. "I need every cent right now to stabilize Walkers Global Enterprise. I’m your only son, please help ."
The silence that followed was suffocating. Voren crossed his arms, already predicting how this conversation would end.
When Humphrey finally spoke again, Ravyn’s heart lifted for a fraction of a second, thinking maybe, just maybe, his father was about to take his side.
Instead, one quiet question shattered what little hope he had left.
"Let
ask you sothing," Humphrey said slowly. "When you decided to kill my grandchild, did you give
the respect of a father and ask if it was right, or even bother getting my consent?"
Ravyn’s fingers tightened around the phone until his knuckles turned white. Regret surged up his chest like acid. He only planned to hurt Seraphine then as revenge for being forced by his parents to marry her.
He swallowed hard, his voice coming out lower, rougher. "I’m sorry, Dad. I ssed up. I only wanted to hurt Seraphine. I wasn’t thinking. But you still have to help ."
Another long pause stretched between them. When Humphrey finally spoke again, his voice was colder than Ravyn had ever heard it.
"I’m sorry, Ravyn, but the mont I heard what you did to our grandchild, you stopped being my son. Legal or not, I won’t help you in any way."
The call ended just like that.
Ravyn stared at the black screen of his phone, breathing shallowly, while Voren watched him with an expression that held no surprise at all.
"See it now?" Voren said quietly. "No matter how much I hate a woman, I would never kill my own child."
He had supported Ravyn before, defended him even, but after everything Seraphine had done and everything Ravyn had admitted, he could finally understand her pain too.
But Ravyn snapped. "You wouldn’t understand," he shouted, turning on Voren with red-rimd eyes. "You’ve never loved anyone."
Voren shrugged, disappointnt settling into his shoulders. "But at least I loved you enough to stand with you," Voren said, his voice rising despite himself.
"And look what it cost . My stocks dropped two billion. I wasted another two billion on cyber experts and now, I’m supposed to hand your crazy ex-wife another ten billion. So tell , Ravyn, are you paying
back for any of this damage?"
Anger burned in Voren’s chest, but Ravyn felt sothing else entirely, a bitter certainty that if Voren had not been here, maybe things would not have spiraled this far.
"Fine," Ravyn muttered. "I ssed up. But I can’t pay you right now. I only want to ask one thing."
He hesitated, then lifted his eyes. "What were you doing with her when I walked in? You two were standing too close."
The accusation in his tone made Voren exhale sharply, his anger burning. "What do you think we were doing?" Voren asked, their burning gazes locked.
Ravyn did not have an answer, but he knew he hated the image that had burned itself into his mind.
"Even if you like her," Ravyn said stiffly, "you know the rules. Alphas don’t date each other’s exes."
Now that Ravyn’s insecurity was laid bare, Voren laughed, short and humorless.
"You amuse ," Voren said. "You of all people should know how much I hate won. Nothing about them interests , and your crazy ex-wife is definitely not the kind of woman I’d go for, even if I was forced to choose."
The response eased sothing ugly inside Ravyn. Even though he despised Seraphine, he still did not want anyone else loving her.
To him, she did not deserve that kind of redemption. "In that case," Ravyn said quietly, "I’m sorry. Let’s just find a way to pay her and clean this shit up."
Voren nodded once, already pulling out his phone. He dialed Corvine’s number and spoke the mont the call connected.
"Tell Seraphine we’re ready to make the paynt."
They waited, and what Corvine said on the other end made Voren’s expression darken instantly, his jaw tightening as rage flickered through his eyes.
