Chapter 124: Chapter 124 – You Should Have Warned Us About Your Ex-Wife
"This is a shaful path," Gray admitted under his breath, his voice carrying a tired weight that sounded heavier than anything he had said all day. The tension in his chest had been building since morning, and the realization that everything they had worked for was collapsing around them left a bitter taste he could not ignore.
After a mont he exhaled slowly and forced himself to continue. "Let’s go see him. My company is already beyond saving, so I’ll call my assistant and have every appointnt canceled. There’s no point pretending anything can still be fixed."
Riven leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling as though the answer to their disaster might sohow be written there.
The speed of their losses had spread faster than wildfire, and the humiliation waiting for them back at the pack felt worse than the financial ruin itself.
After a mont he gave a slow nod and ran a hand through his hair, the gesture full of frustration. "Yeah, I’ll do the sa thing. Once we’re done with that we can et him at his office," he replied, his voice steady even though the situation was anything but.
"Honestly, that’s a lot better than standing in front of the entire pack and watching them tear us apart. They can banish us behind our backs if they want, but at least we won’t be there getting treated like criminals in front of everyone."
At the end of the line, Gray gave a humorless laugh that held no real amusent, only exhaustion and regret. The idea of returning ho to face the elders and the whispers of the pack felt unbearable, especially when he already knew exactly how that story would end.
"Yeah, maybe we won’t be able to look our colleagues in the eye here in the city anymore, but that still beats the sha waiting for us back ho," he muttered while rubbing his temples. The mory of Voren’s warning surfaced again, and the regret burned even deeper.
"We should have listened to Voren when he told us to stay away from her. If I sohow get another life after this one, I swear I’ll never cross a she-wolf again."
Riven did not argue with that statent, because deep down he knew Gray was right. Instead of replying, he gave a quiet nod that carried more agreent than words ever could. The silence between them stretched for several seconds before they both ended the call and began making the ones that would end what remained of their professional lives.
Within two hours the two n found themselves standing in front of Ravyn’s office building, the glass walls reflecting the afternoon sunlight in a way that felt strangely mocking considering the state they were in.
Gray glanced at the towering structure with a troubled expression before turning toward Riven. "What happens if Seraphine tells him not to give us jobs?" he asked quietly, his voice carrying the kind of unease he rarely showed.
The question made Riven stiffen for a mont, because the thought had already crossed his mind more than once during the drive there. Even so, he forced himself to straighten his shoulders and push the worry aside, refusing to let doubt crush the last bit of hope they had left.
"We don’t know that for sure," he replied firmly, even though the uncertainty lingered in his chest.
When they reached the reception area of Ravyn’s office, the place looked as polished and professional as always, though the atmosphere felt slightly tense beneath the surface.
Ravyn’s assistant, Kevin Blake, looked up from his desk the mont he noticed them approaching, and a polite but sympathetic expression crossed his face.
"Mr. Thorne, Mr. Sanders," Kevin greeted them respectfully as he stood up. "I’m really sorry for your loss."
The two Alphas exchanged a brief glance before nodding politely in acknowledgnt, their pride forcing them to maintain so level of dignity despite everything that had happened. Gray stepped forward slightly and spoke first. "Is Ravyn here?"
Kevin nodded without hesitation. "Yes, he’s inside. He has been worried about both of you ever since he started monitoring the market crash and speaking with the other investors involved," Kevin explained, his tone carrying genuine concern. After a short pause he added quietly, "It’s really unfortunate that you two ended up becoming victims of that woman as well."
Gray and Riven both froze for a mont before exchanging another look, this one filled with surprise and confusion.
"You know about her?" Gray asked cautiously. Ravyn had never once ntioned Seraphine as his wife during their ti in the city, so hearing Kevin refer to her so casually caught them completely off guard.
Kevin nodded again, though his expression tightened slightly as though the mory still carried so lingering irritation.
"Of course I know about her. She ca here once before using the na Marjorie Steward and withdrew every investnt she had with us," he explained quietly. "That move almost caused the entire company to crash."
Gray and Riven stared at him in stunned silence, the realization hitting them almost imdiately.
So Seraphine had been the reason Ravyn lost his place in the Sovereign Circle before.
If they had known that piece of information earlier, neither of them would have dared to provoke her the way they did. Voren’s warning echoed in their minds again, and the regret that followed felt even heavier now that the truth was clear.
Kevin seed unaware of the storm of thoughts passing through their minds, because he simply gave them another polite nod. "Let
inform Mr. Walker that you’re here," he said before turning and walking toward Ravyn’s office.
The two Alphas remained standing near the elevator in silence while they waited, both n lost in their own thoughts. If there had been any way to reverse ti and change the decisions they made earlier, they would have taken it without hesitation. Unfortunately, the past had already sealed their fate, and all they could do now was face whatever consequences remained.
Their thoughts were interrupted when Kevin returned a few minutes later and gestured toward the hallway with a courteous smile.
"Please co in."
Inside the office, Ravyn sat behind his desk with a troubled expression on his face. The damage Seraphine had caused to his friends had been weighing heavily on his mind all morning, and the news that they were coming to see him left him feeling uneasy about what kind of conversation awaited them.
The mont Gray and Riven appeared in the doorway, Ravyn leaned back slightly in his chair and studied them with a tired look.
"I thought you two would be busy trying to salvage whatever is left of your stocks," Ravyn said, his tone carrying a hint of confusion as he watched them step inside.
Gray stopped a few feet away from the desk and looked at him with an expression that mixed frustration with resentnt. The words ca out before he could stop them.
"You should have warned us about your ex-wife."
As soon as the sentence left his mouth, Gray glanced around the room quickly to make sure Kevin was not still nearby, because even saying that na out loud felt risky now.
Fortunately, the assistant had already stepped out.
Ravyn had never been proud of his past relationship with Seraphine the way he proudly spoke about Daisy, and the uncomfortable silence filling the office made that fact painfully obvious.
