The content of the novel and the movie “The Wandering Earth” seem completely different at first glance.
The tispan of the novel is vast, while that of the movie is quite small.
The content that the movie covers only occupies a very small portion of the novel, to the point where many people feel that the movie has only borrowed the original shell of the novel.
However.
The perspectives of three generations of grandparents, grandchildren, and parents presented in the movie, the years in the underground city, the obsession with witnessing a sunrise, and the thes of human persistence and sacrifice, etc.
All of them are kernels provided by the novel.
It is impossible for the duration of the movie to fully present the grand narrative scale of the novel, sothing that not even Nolan or Spielberg could achieve, so adaptation is inevitable.

Lin Yuan wrote the last line of the novel: “Ah, Earth, my wandering Earth…”
The novel of about 23,000 words was completed.
