623: Side Story: Great Wilderness Heavenly Sea – Part 2 623: Side Story: Great Wilderness Heavenly Sea – Part 2 In the Great Wilderness Realm, many intelligent creatures proliferate and thrive, with the Human Clan being just one among them.
This realm has cultivation practices, as well as Heavenly Gods and Earthly Spirits, but compared to others, they are relatively ancient and simple.
These people belong to the main continent of the Great Wilderness Realm, subjects under the [Tianyu Dynasty] established by the Human Clan.
Within the Tianyu Dynasty there are many nations and princely states, self-proclaid to have ‘all directions co to court.’ They are subjects of the Jingchu King from the ‘Jing Chu direction,’ unable to pay the increasingly heavy Silver Taxes, so they can only pay with Blood Tax, to develop the islands of the Heavenly Sea for Jing Chu.
This place is a Cave Heaven in the southern Heavenly Sea of Jing Chu, known as [Liucui Island].
The na is beautiful, but the environnt is harsh, plagues abound, mosquitoes and venomous snakes fill the mountains and valleys, and it’s said that evil demons haunt the area.
Although Tianyu, in theory, governs here, not a single official or Priest is sent, and Jing Chu usually doesn’t care.
However, since this Cave Heaven is located near so developed Cave Heavens, occasionally rchant caravans and ships from the Great Void co to patrol and trade.
Theoretically, there are also human encampnts established by tax evaders on the island, as well as company warehouses and island garrison posts.
But now it seems, these things only exist on [paper]; in reality, those encampnts, those company warehouses and the treasures and Spiritual Objects within, as well as the quite nurous garrison salaries, do not truly exist.
The records show three hundred people for this ship, but in reality, not counting the sailors, there are just over seventy people.
Halfway through the journey, they encountered an accident and crashed in the vicinity.
Now including the crew, there are only just over fifty people left, suffering heavy losses indeed.
Even, if it weren’t for the captain’s experience, they wouldn’t just be stranded, but would have been lost in the Heavenly Sea and disappeared without a trace, turned into primal Spirit Evil Soup.
“There is no settlent or warehouse here at all!”
Now, the vast majority have understood this fact, soone despairs and yells, “Damn the King and his officials, they never really intended to let us develop the land, they just wanted us to die!”
“Next, they’ll say we are all conniving troublemakers, that upon arriving on the island, tempted by wealth, we turned into robbers and Water Bandits, taking advantage of the island guard’s negligence, hijacking the ship, burning the encampnts, robbing the warehouse and leaving…
They’ll clear their accounts, and by then, our families will be arrested to serve hard labor, and we will be completely looted, and they can make another fortune!”
The person speaking is very experienced, and what he says is completely in line with reality and imagination, almost foretelling the future, instantly demoralizing everyone.
“I’ve seen it happen.”
And that venerable old man sighs, his wrinkled face filled with calm despair, looking towards the direction of Jing Chu: “I’ve seen several empty ships setting out to sea at the southern ports, but the numbers of goods on record keep increasing.”
“Five tis setting out to develop new lands, twelve tis immigrant support, over a hundred island guards, altogether several hundreds to nearly a thousand immigrants, seven or eight settlents, goods worth over two hundred thousand ingots of Spirit Stones, including Spirit Beast hides, Sweet Dew, Jade Liquid, as well as Magic Artifacts and Spirit Iron transported from the continent and nearby Cave Heavens, all kinds of teas and spices…
It’s all fake.”
As the old man speaks, his lips tremble, and the others are also horrified, “Elder Huang, is this true?
You knew all this?
Why didn’t you warn us?!”
“I thought there would be a tenth of what’s on the record!”
The old man referred to as ‘Elder Huang’ painfully shook his cane on the ground, letting out a sound of frustration: “Just a dozen or so island guards, over a hundred immigrants, one settlent, and just enough food for a few months would have been enough—I didn’t even dare to hope for the Spiritual Objects or Spirit Iron, just so Jade Rice Spirit Cane would do!”
“Who would’ve known, not to ntion a tenth, not even one percent exists!”
Elder Huang knew so inside information, and his reason for coming to develop the land was not because he couldn’t pay Silver Coin, but because he wanted to help his hotown develop more Cave Heavens in his latter years, which would ease the intense internal competition in Jing Chu by providing a place for Refugees.
Little did he know his goodwill would be completely exploited.
Elder Huang is highly respected, and although angry, nobody transferred their anger onto him, instead they despairingly said, “Doesn’t this just an they want us to die?
Not only die but take the bla, and involve our families and friends, to settle the account for those Jing Chu Kings and officials!”
“They are not even willing to let us suffer natural attrition in the developnt, they just want our lives!”
And the mingguang dust mingled among the crowd couldn’t help but lant, “And they still expect things to go their way?
They’ve got another thing coming!”
As soon as these words were uttered, everyone turned back in unison to look at mingguang dust.
Although no one recognized mingguang dust, those present didn’t really know each other before, and the Art of Magic mingguang dust cast on himself also made everyone feel he looked sowhat familiar, so they didn’t particularly mind, but cautiously said, “Better not say such things, if we really rebelled, no rchant caravans would co from the surrounding Cave Heavens.”
“Yeah, I have no family either, let’s just struggle and see, at least there’s a ship here to start with, setting up a camp is nothing, and doesn’t an we can’t survive.”
“They say there is no camp, but there should be so villages established by those who evaded taxes before, let’s go look for them.”
This is the nature of the Tianyu people: if you want to open a window for air, they are mostly reluctant.
But if you say you want to lift the roof off the house, they would then be willing to accept opening the window.
Although they curse with force, when it cos to actual rebellion, they still dare not—it’s still possible to survive, right?
