In the room at the very corner of the sa floor, Shelby excitedly opened the door of her old room only to be t with a small film of dust. She had gone up the stairs with Ian to show him her old room. She felt a sense of nostalgia as they neared it. Whether good or bad mories, that room had been hers for the past years.
She turned to Ian with a bright smile, "This used to be my room."
She opened the door wider while looking at him, her eyes having a rare shine since entering her previous ho, but stumbled on a small box placed right by the door. Ian reached and caught her before she fell.
"Careful!" He said and helped her stabilize herself.
"I should have been more careful," Shelby said, reaching down to push the box away.
"Oh! It turned into a storeroom?" She said to herself, seeing nothing wrong with it.
However, as Ian took in the room and everything, his frown beca more pronounced. Because of his height, he was slightly hunched over in there.
Actually, because of Ian’s presence, the room seed so crumped that Shelby could hardly turn. This was also because of the large boxes placed randomly in there. Nothing in the small room showed that Shelby had ever lived in there. It was quite sad to see.
Shelby found nothing wrong with it though. She side stepped so of the boxes and hurried to the single window in the room.
"Co see! The view is beautiful!" Shelby turned to Ian, laughing at the way he had to make himself smaller just to get to her.
He leaned over and rested his chin on her shoulder, smiling.
’She finds beauty in everything!’ Ian observed, content with just watching her excitent.
The view that t him was a large tree, but soone had painstakingly carved a smiling face in. It was crude but still pleasant to see.
"Rocky did that." She whispered and Ian humd.
"I like it."
"I knew you would!"
Ian kept his thoughts to himself, scanning the room from the corner of his eyes.
’How can parents do this?!’
At that mont, his resolved fird up. He kissed Shelby’s hair fondly while he back hugged hair. The two stayed like that for a while before they left. They had completed everything they wanted to do. However, Ian had one last thing to do. He did not return ho with Shelby but took a detour.
***
A while after that, and late in the evening, Ian walked along a hallway where everything was seemingly quiet. A few hushed whispers from the inmates could be heard but nothing rowdy. Along one side were bannisters and, on the other side, a long list of individual cells.
He walked slowly as if he were taking a walk in a park, his eyes showing no emotions whatsoever. The n in the cells seed oblivious to his presence as he walked to the very last cell. He pushed it open effortlessly as if it had not been locked and then entered.
The man in there was really the definition of a shell of himself. However, he was too far gone in his head to even co to terms with his situation. It was none other than Jas. He was twitching and saying incoherent words. Thick saliva drooled from the corner of his mouth and his eyes were very dilated.
It was unfortunate that he had not even been sent to go through the withdrawal process from the drugs. Jas had been left to his own fate. It was quite sad.
It was unusually quiet in the whole prison. No policeman was seen around, and one wondered how the caras had not alerted to Ian’s presence yet. With a wave of his hand, the inside of the cell quietened down even more. It goes to say that if anyone walked by, they would not hear anything said in there.
Ian stood towering over the man in that little cell.
He nodded slightly, and Currey appeared. Currey approached Jas, tipped his head back and poured a vial of liquid down Jas’ throat. Just as suddenly as he had appeared, Currey disappeared after that. It took re minutes for Jas to beco lucid.
When Jas ca to, he was in a tiny cell with the back of a man to him.
"Who are you?" He asked, his voice very hoarse. Jas used his shirt to wipe the bodily fluids from his face and glanced vigilantly at the man.
"Ian Thornston?"
Ian finally turned from whatever he was looking at on the walls of the cell and gave his whole attention to Jas.
Ian smiled, making Jas flare up.
"YOU!!" Jas shouted in rage. All his grievances bubbled to the top. While he had been held in custody, Jas’ mind had been mainly boggled and drowned with drugs, but he only briefly existed. He was never fully himself after 24 hours had elapsed.
"Soone has a lot of spirit," Ian smirked.
"Now, that you are back in the land of the living, let’s have a heart-to-heart conversation."
Ian said and leaned against the wall.
"You! How did you get away with that? I clearly saw you kill the man, but then he ca back alive?"
"Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, It turns out that you were stupid too. You really did witness that, and yet you question yourself. You’ve always been just a damn fool! It’s just sad that you had no way of proving that."
Jas tried to spring up towards Ian in his rage, feeling insulted and many other negative emotions but he felt a big weight on himself, and he could not move. Ian continued as if he did not see Jas’ struggle. At that ti, it was not unusual to him that he was suddenly lucid and his mind, not clouded with drugs.
"You should take a look at yourself.... Tsk tsk! The ’mighty’ man has fallen so miserably. Ian sighed as if he was truly sad.
Jas trembled in anger but what could he do?
"Now, let’s talk about what brought here today. Co to think of it, you should be very glad. You got as your first visitor after your incarceration. You should be honoured."
Ian closed his eyes for a bit, then opened his grey eyes, startling Jas. However, Jas gritted his teeth. He struggled against whatever invisible bounds held him in place. All of a sudden, a thought occurred to him, ’I really should have gotten rid of that slut when I had the chance....’
Ian pinched the area between his forehead and eyes, willing himself to stay calm as every single thought from Jas flowed to him like the man was actually speaking.
’He really never learns. Figures! Do fools ever learn?’ Ian asked himself. He straightened from the wall, standing up to his full height. In the cramped cell, Ian’s head actually touched the ceiling, making him appear more intimidating.
"Even though I never warned you, you still crossed a line that you should not have, Wendover. You dared covet my woman! You fool! Did no one ever teach you the etiquette of society? After you married her mother, you should have known that she was off limits! A father nurtures his daughter! Fathers never lust after their daughters! This is simple logic. Even animals understand this. I do not understand how you, a whole learned man, did not get that."
Ian paused as if thinking deeply about sothing.
"I’m inquisitive about this. Why were you so bent on having her? It sounds so disgusting no matter how I look at it."
At that ti, and with the ntion of Shelby, Jas sunk into another lusty state. Since the secret was out anyway, what did he have to lose?
"Heehhehehehe.... It simple. Shelby was the reason I married her mother. She was just too young then. I know that my beloved wife, Clara, must have deduced this sowhere along the line. Clara was the most dutiful I had ever t.
*Sigh!*
I waited and fed Shelby till adulthood, and what did I get?" Jas shouted at the end, getting angrier after realizing that being locked up ant that he would never get to realize that thrill of having his stepdaughter.
Ian narrowed his eyes as he took in all that information. He was furious and disgusted at the sa ti.
"Well, take glory in the fact that she is mine now and will never be yours." Ian said calmly and then as if rembering sothing. He fished out his phone and brought it close to Jas, a gleam twinkling in his eye. Turning up the volu high, he started playing Clara’s sex video.
"I brought you a little gift. Do you like it?" Ian asked, looking amused at the way the veins twitched in Jas’s temple, showing how angry he was.
"Ngg!!! Oh my! Fuck harder!"
Jas lunged at Ian! "I will tear you up today since you brought yourself here!" In all of Jas life, he knew very well that it was at that mont, that he felt so belittled like he was nobody.
He thought that he was at his lowest and his worst, but Ian Thornston had then shown him that one could sink even more lower than his mind could grasp. He tried to cover his ears, but his hands just would not obey him. He was forced to watch his wife being fucked in different positions by the damn prosecutor!
Then as if Jas had gone crazy in the head, he started ranting.
"You demon! What are you doing here? Hahahahahahah..."
"Is sothing funny?" Ian asked amused,
"I just realized that you two match perfectly! The witch and the demon! You two can rot in hell for all I care!"
"That’s interesting! In that case, you go ahead and make the preparations for us to join you soon."
Ian’s voice turned cold as he put his phone away and then slowly stepped up to Jas. Jas never saw it coming, but a small mont of déjà vu occurred to him. Ian lifted the smaller man effortlessly by the neck, and Jas clawed at his hands, trying desperately to get so air in.
Terror gripped Jas but he had no way out. He opened his mouth and closed it trying to gasp for air as Ian tightened his hand around his neck. Jas tried desperately to say sothing, but all that ca out were gurgling sounds. However, the cold glint in Ian’s eyes was the last thing Jas Wendover saw in his life before the world went dark.
The very faint sound of a crack was heard. Ian let the lifeless body go, cleaned his hands with his handkerchief and then turned to leave without a backward glance.
