Agreeing to Create Bad Games, What the Hell Is ‘Titanfall’? Chapter 117: Where’s My Titan?! Where the Hell is My Titan?!
His eyes opened slowly.
A cold, solid steel-gray color ca into view.
Bright yellow railings, a tallic floor glinting under the light, and sparks flying from a distant welding torch that crackled against the cold, steely-blue surface, scattering orange-red embers like stars.
Beyond the railing stood a massive humanoid robot, battle-worn and towering.
Its steel fra and flexible joints radiated the unmistakable beauty of heavy industrial engineering.
Nearby, an old soldier with white hair and a scar across the left side of his face leaned against the railing, staring at him.
“Holy sh*t…”
Piao Teacher couldn’t help but gasp.
No f***ing way…
That gaming blogger called “Ga Microscope” was right?!
I’m not a Titan Pilot!
I’m just a totally ordinary, nothing-special rifle grunt!
“Uh… O-oh…”
Hearing the old soldier call out to him, Piao Teacher scrambled to respond, glancing down at the electronic dog tag floating on the man's chest:
“La-la… Mos… Oh—Captain Lastimosa, sir, hello…”
He had to admit—
With full-sense imrsion and auxiliary tech, the entire ga environnt was insanely real.
Piao Teacher could clearly feel himself sitting on a moving ship.
He could feel the subtle vibrations beneath his seat, and the low rumble echoing in his ears.
And Captain Lastimosa—his tone, his gait—everything was smooth and natural.
None of that robotic, stiff NPC behavior from other gas.
In fact, every movent carried the steady, hardened calm of a true veteran.
Serious but not severe, dignified and approachable—he was the perfect ntor figure.
The presence alone had silenced even the normally unfiltered Piao Teacher.
The comnt stream went nuts:
‘Today we get Quiet Piao Pig.’
‘Captain-sensei?? What kind of na is that LOL’
‘He’s actually nervous, I can see it from here.’
‘Looks like a kid caught goofing off when the dean walks past the classroom window.’
‘D*mn, that scar makes Lastimosa look terrifying.’
‘Why are people calling him “Teacher La” now??’
‘But honestly, Teacher La seems super chill.’
‘He must be a Titan Pilot—gear looks way more badass than the rest.’
‘Of course. That Titan behind the railing must be his.’
‘…’
“Teacher, huh? Kid, you’re the first one to call that. Heh…”
Lastimosa chuckled and walked over to Piao Teacher, who was seated in so sort of cockpit—not sure what it was for.
Lastimosa gave it a glance, frowned, and smacked the outside hull.
“Damn it, the ship’s sim pods rebooted.”
He walked back to the railing and waved:
“Pull that lever above your head. We’ve gotta recalibrate.”
Piao Teacher followed his instructions and pulled the lever.
Clunk!
A loud clank sounded—
Doors on both sides of the cockpit shut, sealing him in.
“Hey? Wha—HEY!!”
That’s when it hit him.
“I’m in a motion pod… inside a motion pod???”
Inception!
It was absurd… but sohow made perfect sense.
Piao Teacher couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculous setup.
After a round of calibration—
A flurry of firefly-like white light flashed past.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing in a tranquil courtyard corridor.
The faint scent of flowers lingered in the air.
A small artificial stream trickled through the corridor.
On a low wooden beam not far away, sat Lastimosa—helt on, calm and cool.
“Holy crap! That X-shaped visor helt is straight-up cosmic-level tomato-cool!”
The futuristic helt had a dragon painted on it.
A yellow triangle-patterned scarf hung at the neck.
Earth-tone battle fatigues and advanced Titan Pilot gear completed the look.
Just sitting there, Lastimosa looked like a veteran jungle predator—
Still as a mountain, fierce as wildfire.
That was the oppressive aura of a Titan Pilot.
So damn cool.
Piao Teacher was in awe.
The gear, the weathering, the visual detail…
Way better than those skin-baring female fighters with midriff and thigh windows.
“Haha, no need for all the flattery,”
Despite his words, it was clear Lastimosa was pleased.
“Technically I shouldn’t be training you—but I think you’ve got potential.”
“Besides… with the war this fierce, who even cares about ranks anymore?”
He stood, clapped his hands, and pointed down the corridor:
“Let’s begin, kid. Just run straight ahead!”
Tutorial level!
Nothing Piao Teacher hadn’t seen before.
He had Left 4 Dead and PUBG experience.
Running, jumping, and sliding were a breeze.
“Nice…”
“Very good…”
“Well done…”
Lastimosa was big on positive reinforcent.
And with the constant praise, Piao Teacher got fired up!
The fluidity of movent in this ga? Even better than Golden Wind’s previous gas!
Just running and jumping was fun on its own.
Soon, after sliding through a rock crevice, the straight path disappeared.
In front of him was a vertical wooden wall.
Lastimosa’s voice ca in:
“Ti for the real test, kid. Activating jump assist.
Jump gear runs on inertia and natural rhythm. Calibrate it, and use that montum to wall-run across!”
Oh?!
Piao Teacher’s eyes lit up.
He rembered that epic wall-run scene from the trailer.
The move where you stick to the wall and dash across using the jump pack’s thrust.
It was clean, slick, stylish.
Most importantly? It looked simple.
Easy style points!
He had wanted to try this for ages.
Ti to shine!
He dashed forward—
Jump jets flared behind him!
“Alright, ti for the ultimate Tomato-Flying-Godlike-Pigskin-Jump, a stylish—”
THUMP!
Before he could finish, a loud thud rang out.
He launched straight from the ledge—
And ramd into the wall like a f***ing dump truck.
Dead silence.
After a long pause, a comnt floated by:
‘Wild boar hits tree…’
Then chaos erupted:
‘LMAOOOOO wild boar hits tree is killing ’
‘Did not hold it together at ALL’
‘Sounds good, must be a good skull’
‘That scream was as iconic as that reverse-smoke cough’
‘Just listening makes my brain buzz’
‘Whose idea was it to set his pain level to 5? Oh wait—it was .’
‘Smiles don’t disappear, they just relocate—like from Piao Teacher to right now’
‘Smile Conservation Law confird’
‘…’
“Piao Teacher face-planted into the wall?”
anwhile, Dumb Chick, who had just barely passed her own wall-run attempt, burst into laughter after seeing the barrage of comnts.
“Piao Teacher can’t do this either?!”
“That comprehension? Not even as good as mine!”
“Teacher La’s efforts were totally wasted on him!”
Laughing, Dumb Chick even ran back across the wall to do it again—
Twice, back and forth!
Her movent was pretty clean too.
Even Lastimosa nodded approvingly:
“Good. Your moves are getting smoother. I knew I saw sothing in you—lots of potential.”
“Hehe, obviously!”
Grinning from ear to ear after being praised, Dumb Chick boasted:
“Teaching ? You hit the jackpot. My strongest trait is raw talent!”
As she followed Lastimosa’s guidance to a new ledge—
This one had no foothold in the middle, and the far end was higher than the start.
She took one look and imdiately guessed it:
“I got this! Oh, I got this! Double jump, right?”
In the trailer, the Titan Pilots used a mid-air double jump to dodge an exploding spider-bot.
Gaaasp—
The chat was stunned.
‘She’s calling out chanics now?’
‘She’s actually starting to get it?!’
‘Not gonna lie, the old lady’s ga sense isn’t bad.’
‘Teacher La: this girl might actually be Titan material…’
‘Motion pod gas do have a bit of a physical reflex component.’
‘She’s doing way better than expected, honestly.’
‘She’s got PUBG experience, after all—decent foundation.’
‘…’
Seeing the growing wave of approval and hearing Teacher La’s complints, Dumb Chick’s confidence soared.
She prepped her signature move:
“Alright boys! Watch pull off the natural-born Titan maneuver!”
With that—
She dashed forward, hit a smooth slide at the ledge—
SSSH—WHOOSH—!!
Perfect distance control let her trigger the jump pack right at the edge.
The jets ignited!
She soared upward!
In that mont, she felt light as air—like she’d broken free of gravity.
But what happened next left every viewer speechless—
Just like a ballerina mid-performance—
Dumb Chick spun mid-air, tucked one leg, extended the other, and prepped to land with another slide.
Slide-spin double jump!
The entire chat held their breath.
Tap!
Her foot landed cleanly on the far platform!
The jet boost kicked in, blasting her forward with precision and power.
Everything was perfect.
Except… her montum was just a bit too low.
She couldn’t tuck her second leg in ti—
SKRRRT—!!
One leg made it.
The other got stuck on the ledge.
CLANG!
She got completely wedged into the platform edge—legs splayed, stuck mid-straddle.
“OHHHH——!!”
“GAAAH——!!”
“OOOOF——!!”
The stream exploded with reactions.
Viewers clutched their knees instinctively, a phantom pain sweeping the crowd.
‘WTF—’
‘Hurts… just watching…’
‘She’s not still on pain level 5, is she?’
‘Yup.’
‘TERRIBLE.’
‘That’s nightmare-fuel level trauma right there.’
‘Even if I’ve never experienced it—I can feel it in my soul.’
‘I’m afraid to look…’
After a long pause—
From inside the motion pod ca Dumb Chick’s trembling voice:
“I… would like to request… a lower pain setting…”
“I’m begging you…”
An experience beyond imagination!
Detail refinent to perfection!
And backed by YiYou’s brand-new full-sense auxiliary tech—
Just like Gu Sheng said:
The gates to a new world had opened.
A truly vibrant, imrsive virtual world was now taking shape.
And Titanfall, without a doubt, was the first pioneer in this new frontier.
Just one training level was enough to shock every strear.
All the moves from the trailer—
Slide, wall-run, double-jump boost—
Were now playable with incredible tactile fluidity!
Within hours, nearly every strear in the platform’s gaming section had switched to streaming this title.
It was on fire!
After finishing the tutorial, players were drawn into the ga’s unique “speedrun simulator”—a special course designed for free-running mastery.
Sure, it was just a basic parkour map.
Sure, the goal was simply “hit 15 targets and reach the finish line as fast as possible.”
But people loved it.
They ran it over and over—
So even played it for eight straight hours!
Techniques like bunny-hopping, grenade-jump starts, and wrap-around boosts evolved into speedrun ta.
The original two-minute benchmark set by Lastimosa was shattered again and again—
1 minute.
30 seconds.
20.
15!
And finally—three days later—
A U.S. player with the ID “Octane” used a double grenade-jump start to complete the course in 3.9 seconds, taking global leaderboard #1—unbeaten to this day.
Of course, not everyone was that hardcore.
Most moved on after completing two laps, eager to continue the story—
Because, according to Lastimosa—
“Soon, you’ll pilot your own Titan.”
“So, Teacher… this is a reflection of your holand?”
Outside the sim room, on the outer platform, Tuanzi asked.
Rolling hills stretched into the distance, endless greenery.
A small stream babbled nearby. Cherry blossom trees in full bloom lined both sides.
The scenery was breathtaking.
“Sort of,” Lastimosa replied. “It was inspired by my howorld, Harmony. I grew up there.”
He looked out over the peaceful view and smiled.
“And this is what we fight for, Cooper.”
“A world without tal and smoke. A world of peace and prosperity.”
He took a deep breath, like he was trying to capture the scent of his past.
“After the Ceres Battle, we reclaid one-tenth of the border. Our resistance grows stronger every day.
More and more warriors, just like you, are joining us—fighting back against IMC’s tyranny.”
With rising passion, he pointed at the giant steel behemoth nearby:
“This is BT-7274—my partner. Developed by our Resistance. Not stolen from IMC.”
“You called it ‘he’?” Tuanzi noted the use of masculine pronouns in the subtitles.
“Yes. He.”
Lastimosa sat at the edge of the platform.
“No Titan Pilot sees their Titan as just a machine.”
“Once you beco one… you’ll understand.”
“Now, summon your own Titan.”
Tuanzi still didn’t quite get the sentint—but Titan ti?
Say no more.
She rushed to the edge and activated her simulated Pilot wristband.
The screen displayed: FS-1041.
Lastimosa called out:
“Eyes up, kid! Your Titan’s inbound!”
She looked to the sky—
THOOM!
With a deep roar, a bright star appeared above the horizon.
Thunder rumbled.
That gleaming light blazed brighter and brighter—
A towering ch blazing through the atmosphere, trailing fire as it fell from orbit!
At that mont—
The chat exploded!
‘OHHHHH—orbital Titan drop! Looks even cooler in-ga!’
‘This animation is insane!’
‘Wait, aren’t you supposed to be a full Pilot to get a Titan?’
‘This is just training!’
‘Don’t care—GIM. I’ve been dying to try BT!’
‘You dare covet Teacher La’s Titan?!’
‘Lastimosa: Do you want to end you?’
‘You try to steal my bot and I’ll unplug your whole setup.’
‘LOL this is wild…’
Tuanzi shrieked with excitent:
“AAAAHHHH! MY TITAN! MY OWN TITAN! I FINALLY HAVE A—”
But before she could finish—
The screen glitched.
FS-1041 froze mid-drop.
A second later—
The in-ga sim pod opened on its own.
Lastimosa’s voice ca through:
“That’s enough, kid. Big trouble’s coming—we’ve got to prepare.”
Outside, rows of rifle troops rushed to assemble.
Nervous soldiers ran past the corridor in a frenzy.
Tuanzi was stunned.
That’s it?!
“Wait what?! It’s starting now?! Where’s my Titan?!
I HAD A GIANT-A** TITAN COMING DOWN AND I DIDN’T EVEN GET TO SEE IT PROPERLY—AAAHHH!”
She was about to punch her motion pod.
Who the hell wrote this script?!
Cutting off right before the Titan shows up? That’s novel cliffhanger bullsh*t!
Still fuming—
A man nad Captain Cole walked up, tossed her a gun:
“Let’s go, Cooper! Don’t zone out!”
“Easy, Cole,”
Lastimosa patted his shoulder:
“He just finished training—give him a sec.”
“This kid’s got potential. I believe in him.”
Salute!
Cole snapped to attention.
“Yes, sir!”
Tuanzi was shaken.
Lastimosa was a Captain…
But so was Cole.
Yet Cole saluted him and called him Sir.
That’s how high Titan Pilots ranked.
Just then—
Lastimosa inserted a small knife into a cylinder core, smiled at her:
“Kid, you’re the first one to call ‘Teacher.’
I’ll do everything I can to train you into a real Pilot—
But it looks like today isn’t the day…”
Alarms blared inside the ship.
A heroic, tragic symphony began to play.
The entire battalion assembled with urgency.
Even another Titan Pilot—Anderson—stopped to greet Lastimosa with a salute.
Clunk!
Lastimosa slotted the core into BT’s “head.”
The massive Titan powered up.
As the real cockpit opened and he climbed inside, he turned back one last ti:
“We’re heading to a new planet today.
We might die there.
Take care of yourself, kid.
Good luck.”
“Good luck, Teacher!”
Tuanzi gave him a big thumbs-up.
Then—
The screen began to fade.
Black gradually enveloped the display.
A majestic, somber symphony rose as golden letters appeared:
[GOLDEN WIND GAS]
[Proudly Presents]
As the screen slowly brightened again—
Through the planetary clouds, a massive blue sphere rotated below.
And across it appeared the ga’s title:
TITANFALL
As the cara zood in, the title slowly faded—
A lone escape pod trailed fla as it pierced through the upper atmosphere, diving toward the world below.
