Chapter 452: Chapter 339: Returning Ho_2
The property managent team leader dismissed the others and jogged over.
“I’m just coming ho, don’t gather so many people next ti,” Chen Xing said after a mont of silence, waving his hand.
“Understood! But we called them here this ti also to rember what you look like, so they don’t accidentally offend you in the future. Although we would definitely punish them if that happened, it would still ruin your mood, wouldn’t it?” the property managent team leader said in a low voice.
“Hmm, just continue with your normal work,” Chen Xing nodded, his heart set on getting ho.
Entering the neighborhood, a group of old n gathered in the shade of the trees below.
So stood to the side with their hands behind their back, while others were huddled together.
From afar, he could hear his own father’s loud voice, “No, no, I made a mistake just now. Let’s redo this move.”
“You old cheat, taking back moves again!”
Chen Xing walked over and stood on the outside of the crowd, slightly tiptoeing to look inside.
He saw his father red-faced and thick-necked in argunt.
The “chess friends” spectating around them were all chuckling good-naturedly.
There was laughter and chatting, a relaxed atmosphere.
Not far away, several old ladies sat chatting under the gazebo.
“Alas, my grandson wants to go to military school. He’s thinking of joining that Ember thing once he graduates.”
“Ember? The newly established organization, right? I’ve heard the compensation isn’t bad, but it’s all young people. Not sure if they can handle it well. I think joining the military isn’t bad, the benefits in the army are quite good, and they’re expanding recruitnt lately.”
“Oh, haven’t you seen the recent news? Heard they accomplished several big things, took down quite a few families, mainly working within the country. I think it’s safer than going to the Exotic Region.”
Liu Yuzhen was sitting among them, smiling as she listened to the others talk, seemingly without much to insert herself into the conversation.
She only responded with a few words when others asked her.
Chen Xing’s sowhat tense emotions from the last few days also suddenly relaxed in this mont.
How wonderful.
Maybe, this is what ho ans.
No matter how tired you are outside, when you co ho, you drop your guard. Isn’t the hard work outside all for this?
One of the old ladies chatting noticed Chen Xing standing not far away, looking in their direction.
“Eh, whose young one is that, been watching us for a while.”
Liu Yuzhen, who was chatting with the other ladies, turned her head and her eyes lit up seeing Chen Xing.
Under the sunlight, Chen Xing’s mouth curved up slightly, and he waved his hand, “Mom, I’m back. I’m kind of hungry. I want to eat the fish-flavored shredded pork you make.”
“You’re back and didn’t even say anything in advance.”
Liu Yuzhen grumbled, but she was quick to act, standing up while talking to the other old ladies, “My kid’s ho, I need to go back and cook, you all take your ti.”
Upon approaching, she scrutinized Chen Xing’s face, “You’ve lost weight, seems like you haven’t been eating much.”
“Mom, I haven’t lost weight, my weight hasn’t changed,” Chen Xing said with a laugh.
“What does your weight have to do with your face getting thin,” Liu Yuzhen huffed, saying this as she walked over to the chess board, “You old fool, our child is back and you’re still playing chess! Go ho and prepare the vegetables!”
Chen Guohai, who was engrossed in his ga of chess, sighed heavily at the sound of his wife’s voice. With only the general and two advisors left on his board, he said, “My boy is back, I’ll stop playing for now.”
With that, he got up.
“Hey, just a few moves left, finish the ga!”
As he heard the voices behind him, Chen Guohai quickened his pace.
The family headed back ho.
“Have you been comfortable living here?” Chen Xing asked.
“It’s alright, it’s convenient to buy groceries here, and there’s even a special Beast Taming training ground in the neighborhood,” Liu Yuzhen stated, “Your dad used to be a hobody without many friends, but since coming here, he often plays chess with the old tirs in the community.”
“That’s because I never really learned to play before. Give a couple of years and watch leave them all in complete disarray,” Chen Guohai was sowhat dissatisfied, feeling his spouse shouldn’t say in front of their child that his chess skills were lacking.
Watching his parents playfully argue, Chen Xing smiled slightly.
Their bickering was sothing he had beco accustod to.
After dinner, Chen Xing was ready to lay so cards on the table with them.
There were things he could tell the old couple.
They weren’t the unreasonable type, and their capacity to accept new things was strong.
Moreover, they were all family; many things didn’t need to be concealed.
“Mom, I’ve had a bit of a breakthrough with Beast Taming recently. The higher-ups think I’m competent, so they’ve added so responsibilities to my plate,” Chen Xing said.
“So you got a promotion. Why beat around the bush?” Liu Yuzhen looked at Chen Xing strangely.
“…Aren’t you curious at all?”
“What’s there to be curious about? Your dad and I have moved into this neighborhood. What else is there to wonder about?” Liu Yuzhen shook her head.
Initially, moving in, they were quite nervous, but after interacting with other elderly ladies and gentlen in the community, they gradually got used to it.
As for what kind of status was required to live here, the two people, who together had consud more than a hundred years’ worth of salt, were naturally not fools.
So, after the initial surprise, they slowly beca accustod to it.
In fact, ever since so ti ago, when Chen Guohai’s pension suddenly increased a lot, they had started to speculate.
Hearing the answer from Chen Xing’s mouth just confird their suspicions.
“Alright, can’t fool my parents. You’ve guessed it. I’m now a Salamander Deputy Chief Commander of the fourth rank,” Chen Xing said.
“Oh, a fourth rank Salamander Deputy Chief Commander?”
“…What!?”
Liu Yuzhen, who had just nodded along, asked in disbelief.
The old couple didn’t know much about what a Salamander Deputy Chief Commander was, only recognizing it sounded like so official title.
Because they didn’t pay much attention to the newly established Ember Organization on a daily basis.
But they understood very well what the fourth rank ant.
The highest official in a provincial capital was of the third rank.
Even the mayor of Jincheng was only fourth rank.
Their son was now equivalent to the mayor of their hotown!?
Chen Guohai picked up the teacup from the table, took a quick sip, then feigned composure, “This fourth rank… it was obtained properly, right?”
Liu Yuzhen slapped Chen Guohai’s arm and snapped, “What nonsense are you talking!”
Then she turned to her son, “We don’t really understand your fourth rank. Your dad and I started from the bottom. The greatest achievent of our lives is raising you and your sister.
But I know about Ember; it’s a hot new departnt recently, and I heard many aunties in the community want to get their younger family mbers in.”
At this point, Liu Yuzhen sighed lightly, “If your status is revealed, probably a lot of people will co knocking, trying to get in through your dad and . We can’t be of any help, but we won’t hold you back either!”
At this, she glared at Chen Guohai, “In the future, if anyone approaches you to pull strings for their kids, you can’t agree! No matter the reason, don’t accept others’ favors. We’ll give you an increase of a thousand yuan a month in pocket money, did you hear that?”
Chen Guohai nodded with a laugh, “Don’t worry, I definitely won’t agree to anything for anyone.”
Chen Xing said, “I’m now an Ascension Beast Tar. This position is just transitional. I expect I might get a promotion soon, or there could be an overall upgrade in the departntal ranks within Ember.”
To his surprise, the old couple didn’t react much to the title Ascension Beast Tar, only nodding. Especially upon hearing that his rank might be raised, they cheerily encouraged Chen Xing to do his best.
“So what rank does this Ascension Beast Tar fall under? Your mom and I have recently been raising those two little crocodiles you bought last ti, and we’ve bought so books about it, wherein the Advanced Beast Tar ca up. Is Ascension Beast Tar stronger than an Advanced Beast Tar?” Chen Guohai casually inquired.
Upon hearing this, Chen Xing had an odd look on his face, “A little bit stronger than an Advanced Beast Tar, it’s one level above it.”
“I see, it’s like the difference between a mid-level Beast Tar and a junior-level Beast Tar,” Chen Guohai said, indicating he understood.
Chen Xing wanted to say more but stopped himself.
The gap between Ascension and Advanced was far bigger than that between mid-level and junior-level.
But his father’s interpretation wasn’t incorrect; technically, it was indeed one rank higher.
Chen Xing stayed at ho for three days.
After three days, Chen Xing bid farewell to his family and set off with the Demon Eagle toward the Tomb Tower Forbidden Land.
