Chapter 294: Chapter 251: Jin Ye Guard
Lord Ming Junting watched with a half-smiling, half-serious expression as the other person’s retreating figure, then gestured towards the darkness not far away.
“My lord,” a young man with raised eyebrows erged from the darkness.
Lord Ming said, “Please invite Chen Xing here.”
“Yes, my lord.”
As he watched the departing figure, Lord Ming added, “Be polite.”
“Yes, my lord.”
Ming Junting put down the brush in his hand; the intelligence within this Dark Fire division was plentiful.
If analyzed properly, perhaps so suitable information could be found.
So, he had been staying at the forr site of the Dark Fire Organization for so ti.
Besides checking the intelligence, he also took the opportunity to fish for information.
Previously, the channels that Dark Fire Organization had in Longbei City had been mostly usurped by the Jin Ye Guard, and many outsiders were still unaware of the situation.
He thought he was only going to catch a small fish, but unexpectedly, he caught an interesting big fish instead.
“Qin Xuan, do you rember what that person looks like, what is his identity?” Ming Junting looked towards the man sitting half a step lower to the side, busy working at the back.
The man stopped writing, bowed slightly, “Reporting to the Commandant, the person just now is ng Quan from the fourth branch of the ng Family in Giant City, responsible for Beast Taming. He is 265 years old and possesses a Sixth Layers Transcendence Bone-eating Giant Snail and a Transcendence Fifth Level Howling Moonlight King Kong.”
“Hmm…” Ming Junting nodded slightly. Qin Xuan had chosen the “scholar” path for his Transcendence evolution ceremony, which greatly fortified a Beast Tar’s mory, and that’s why Ming had promoted him to his deputy.
…
In a room on the first floor busily solving problems, Chen Lingya heard so noise from outside the courtyard. She looked up and saw her brother speaking with soone dressed in a Jin Ye Guard uniform before leaving with them.
What does the Jin Ye Guard want with her brother?
Chen Lingya felt a pang of worry. She had seen a mber of the Jin Ye Guard once before and heard about their identity and missions.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t offer her brother any help. His power has advanced so quickly that it was sowhat beyond her understanding.
She slled the faint scent of fried chicken and looked towards the corner of the room.
A small snail was trying hard to nibble on so fried chicken.
The hundred pieces of fried chicken her brother made still weren’t finished.
The snail had a small mouth, so eating fried chicken was quite a technical challenge for it.
But under her supervision over these past days, the snail had made efforts to eat, and it was about to finish all the fried chicken her brother had made.
During this process, to her surprise, she found that fried chicken could actually increase the Magic Power limit of the snail!
This was astonishing. She had heard of the concept of “food as a tonic.” It was said that certain treasures or monsters could, through special cooking thods, make food that nourished Beast Tars.
But she had never heard of such exaggerated effects.
However, Chen Lingya didn’t publicize it or reveal it to outsiders.
Her brother trusted her enough to give her such important things, and naturally, she would not disclose them.
Once the snail’s Magic Power t the standards and all the necessary treasures for evolution were collected, it could then proceed to evolve.
She thought of her brother’s Taotie, how formidable it had beco after a rare evolution. Presumably, the snail would not be bad after its rare evolution, either.
If her own strength increased, perhaps she could be of help to her brother.
…
“Lord Ming,” Chen Xing clasped his hands in greeting, bowing respectfully.
On his way here, he had inquired about the caller and learned that his last na was Ming, a Commandant of the Jin Ye Guard.
Supposedly a third rank official, only half a notch below the governor of Shu State, but due to the special nature of the institution, his actual authority was nothing less than greater.
Chen Xing was also puzzled about why the other party had summoned him, having already turned down an invitation last ti. It didn’t seem likely that such a dignitary would invite him a second ti…
“No need to be so formal,” Ming Junting remarked with amusent, examining Chen Xing as if assessing a treasure.
After pondering for a mont, he suddenly voiced without preamble, “Do you know that a mortal danger is imminent for you?”
“Unaware,” Chen Xing answered honestly, shaking his head.
Ming Junting laughed heartily, his loud laughter resounding.
Sitting beside him, Qin Xuan sneaked a glance at the Commandant. It’s been a long ti since he had seen such a joyous laugh from the Commandant.
After his laughter subsided, Ming Junting got straight to the point, “You know of ng Quan, right?”
Chen Xing was inwardly puzzled. Had ng Quan co knocking? Or had he co to lodge a complaint?
Well… the latter seed unlikely; the laws of Giant City didn’t extend to Great Xia.
Moreover, in a place like Giant City, killing was not a cri; it was a cri only if one was powerless and yet committed murder.
“He ca personally intending to take action against you. You might not know, this place is a branch of the Dark Fire Organization in Longbei City, which I recently took down. The news has not yet spread.
“ng Quan has co knocking on the door, offering a handso sum to have you assassinated,” Ming Junting said with a light chuckle.
With mirth, he continued, “Considering your past battles, you can handle opponents at the Transcendence Fourth Level. But I wonder if you can handle an opponent at the Transcendence Fifth or even Sixth Level?”
Upon hearing Ming Junting’s words, a sudden alert arose in Chen Xing’s heart; he had not expected ng Quan to move so swiftly.
Unable to “invite” him through Wan Hailong’s channels, ng Quan decided to co in person, outright offering money to the Dark Fire people to assassinate him.
If the Dark Fire Organization hadn’t just been destroyed, he might well have faced an assassination tonight.
Such decisive and ruthless actions were truly befitting soone who secured a position of an elder with real power.
This only strengthened Chen Xing’s resolve to kill this old scoundrel.
Today it was assassination, tomorrow it could be abducting his relatives as hostages to threaten him.
Such people would stop at nothing; in a way, in so areas, they were not so dissimilar from himself…
“I don’t know,” Chen Xing shook his head.
Whether he could defeat opponents at the Transcendence Fifth or even Sixth Level was sothing he would only know after a real fight.
