By the ti they realized it, Cheng Lingdang had already escaped their control.
Cheng Xingjian and Xiao Mingyue rushed to their daughter’s side, their gazes burning into her.
"Baby, it’s all mommy’s fault!"
Xiao Mingyue held Cheng Lingdang, filled with self-bla.
She believed that if it weren’t for her, Cheng Lingdang wouldn’t have been captured at all.
Cheng Lingdang didn’t want to see her mother blaming herself, so she quickly said, "No matter the reason, if I got caught, it’s because my skills were lacking."
As she spoke, she hugged Xiao Mingyue tightly, "Mom, please don’t bla yourself anymore, or, or I’ll feel even worse."
Hearing her beloved daughter say this, Xiao Mingyue could not dwell on her self-reproach, instead hurriedly comforting her not to be sad.
Cheng Xingjian, however, looked coldly at the Cheng Family mbers.
"You all really impress ," Xingjian said with admiration.
Facing Cheng Xingjian’s chilling gaze, everyone felt sowhat guilty.
But they quickly regained their composure.
What did they have to feel guilty about?
Wasn’t it all Cheng Xingjian’s fault?
If it weren’t for Cheng Xingjian’s disagreent, they would not have needed to take such drastic asures.
Without drastic asures, the following events would not have happened.
If those events hadn’t happened, Cheng Xingjian would have no grounds to bla them.
Without bla, wouldn’t everything be fine?
Thinking this, they suddenly felt justified, and when they looked at Cheng Xingjian again, their gazes even carried a hint of reproach.
Cheng Xingjian almost laughed in anger, seeing how utterly shaless these people could be.
In their shalessness, they had beco the righteous ones.
Old Master Cheng, taking advantage of his age, said, "Xingjian, I still want to advise you. We’re all family here, no need for things to be so rigid. Why break ties with us over a silly little girl?"
"Don’t look at your current success, but don’t forget, your status today is the result of the collective efforts of the whole Cheng Family."
"Without us, you wouldn’t have a chance to be an official, let alone hold such a high position."
"To be human, you must know gratitude, be aware of the kindness you’ve received, and repay it. I don’t need to teach you that, do I?"
Hearing this, Cheng Xingjian scoffed, "You really don’t hold back, do you, elder?"
The old master wasn’t embarrassed at all, saying cheerfully, "What’s there to hold back? You are a child of the Cheng Family; we are all family here. Being too polite with each other, that’s just boring."
"Heh," Cheng Xingjian sneered, so you really do know yourself well.
"Absolutely," the old master didn’t feel guilty in the slightest, "Xingjian, normally I don’t ask you for anything. Even if there were problems, I would deal with them myself and never bother you."
"Today, I’m just exploiting my old age for once, might as well go for broke. As a junior, you shouldn’t refuse even such a small request."
The other mbers of the Cheng Family chid in, "That’s right, Xingjian. It’s rare for the old master to speak up. If you refuse even this, that would be outrageous!"
No matter how splendidly they spoke, Cheng Xingjian had no intention of agreeing.
This inevitably annoyed them.
They were pleading so earnestly, and yet Cheng Xingjian still wouldn’t agree. What did he really want?
"Cheng Xingjian, don’t go too far. Everyone is begging you, and if you continue to refuse, then you are the one who is wrong!"
"Exactly, we raised you to your position, and we can just as easily take you down. You’d better think carefully about what you can and cannot do before you refuse us again!"
Seeing that they couldn’t persuade Cheng Xingjian, so turned to coax Cheng Lingdang with earnest words.
"Lingdang, it’s not that your uncles and elders want to lecture you, but this behavior is really out of line. Be obedient and don’t keep on..."
Cheng Lingdang directly interrupted the person, "You want to marry the old man from the Zhao Family?"
The person nodded, his face showing delight, "Lingdang, you saying this ans you agree?"
"I didn’t say I agreed," Cheng Lingdang replied, narrowing her eyes, "but it’s not like I can’t agree."
"After all, I’m going to marry soone in this lifeti, who it is doesn’t matter, does it?"
Hearing Cheng Lingdang’s words, the person imdiately nodded in agreent, "Exactly! A young lady will eventually marry, better to marry a rich man than so poor guy who’s all about true love."
"Although the old master Zhao is a bit old, older n tend to be more caring."
"Once you marry into their family, the whole Zhao Family will be under your command. Isn’t that great?"
"With any other family, wouldn’t you have to deal with the mother-in-law and establish rules before anything else? Isn’t that right?"
"Being able to skip that step and ascend to heaven in one move is luck that many people can’t even dream of, right?"
Cheng Lingdang wore a look of wholehearted agreent, "You’re absolutely right."
"However—"
"However what?" The person’s expression showed a trace of nervousness, worried she might suddenly change her mind.
Cheng Lingdang said, "I know Uncle is doing all this for my own good."
"As a grateful and reciprocating child, I must repay your peach with my plum."
The person’s face imdiately showed smug satisfaction, "Good Lingdang, I knew I didn’t misjudge you, I always knew you were a good child..."
Cheng Lingdang made a stopping gesture, "Wait a mont."
He asked, puzzled, "What is it now?"
"You’ve said that you’re willing to do it, but I still have so concerns..."
"What concerns?"
"I can’t just marry off without anything, right? Things like a dowry... there should be so, shouldn’t there?"
The Cheng Family looked at each other and unanimously responded, "Of course, of course, there will be a dowry!"
"You are our Cheng Family’s little princess, and a little princess’s dowry must be well-prepared!"
Cheng Lingdang’s face showed a touched expression, "I knew my uncles and uncles truly care for , just saying the word dowry and it’s settled."
As she spoke, she took out her phone.
"Since my uncles and uncles are so generous, why not..."
She displayed the paynt code, "let’s settle it now?"
The previously generous speaker imdiately wilted.
"To give it now, isn’t it a bit early?"
Cheng Lingdang looked confused, "Too early? What’s early about that?"
Speaking, she started to look aggrieved, "Do you think it’s too early, or did you never intend to give it at all?"
The crowd exchanged glances and, not wanting to lose the opportunity, proceeded to scan and transfer a large sum of money on the spot.
Cheng Lingdang accepted their money and then finally sighed, "If you were willing to give money, you should have said so earlier."
Hearing this, the people looked at her, puzzled.
Said what earlier?
Then they saw Cheng Lingdang, grinning from ear to ear, holding her phone up to the stunning young woman, gleefully announcing, "Master, look, I’ve earned a large sum of money!"
"Your expenses in the Imperial Capital, put them all on my tab."
Cheng Lingdang patted her chest, her face almost screaming "I’m rich."
