"Do you understand now?"
Zhang Qiran stared blankly at Song Zhehan, the voice in his ears seeming to co from far away.
Tears blurred his vision, and the figure in front of him beca indistinct.
Zhang Qiran felt dizzy, unable to react for a long mont.
It wasn’t until the thumb holding his chin brushed over his lips that Song Zhehan's slightly impatient voice rang out, "Did you hear clearly? And you say you're not a fool?"
The disconnected tears finally stopped, and Zhang Qiran could see Song Zhehan's expression clearly.
They were so close that Zhang Qiran could even feel their breaths intertwining. When he slightly lifted his eyes, they t Song Zhehan’s gaze—
It was a gaze that hid no emotions, a side of Song Zhehan rarely shown to others.
Zhang Qiran didn’t even need to try to interpret it; the raw emotions in those eyes shocked him, making his heart race wildly.
In the next mont, those eyes lowered slightly, and Zhang Qiran clearly saw Song Zhehan lean in. His slightly cool lips gently enveloped his own.
Zhang Qiran was startled. "You—"
"You can open your mouth, but don't say anything."
Before Zhang Qiran could respond, a deep kiss overtook him.
Their breaths mingled, lips and teeth entwined.
The pounding in Zhang Qiran's chest beca even more alarming.
A tear slid down from the corner of his eye.
Taking advantage of a brief pause for breath, Zhang Qiran's trembling voice asked, "Are you... sure you're not lying to ?"
Song Zhehan’s thumb gently stroked Zhang Qiran’s cheek, a soft laugh escaping his throat. He wrapped an arm around Zhang Qiran’s waist without saying a word, deepening the kiss.
It wasn't until they were both breathless, and Zhang Qiran awkwardly pushed against him, that Song Zhehan finally ended the kiss.
Flustered, Zhang Qiran turned away, his exposed skin—along with his ears—flushed red.
Song Zhehan watched him cover his face in embarrassnt, amused, but for once, he showed so restraint and didn’t say anything. Instead, he asked, "Should I get out?"
Zhang Qiran looked back, surprised. "Why would you get out?"
Song Zhehan crossed his arms, his gaze slowly shifting downward.
Before his eyes could reach their destination, Zhang Qiran’s exasperated voice burst out, "Song Zhehan—don’t you dare look!"
Song Zhehan raised an eyebrow but didn’t tease further, turning and getting out of the car.
As the door closed, Zhang Qiran’s frustrated scream followed, "Ahhh—"
Song Zhehan couldn't hold it in any longer, covering his face as he burst into laughter.
It was ten minutes later when Zhang Qiran finally stepped out of the car.
Song Zhehan stared at him.
The flush that had barely faded from Zhang Qiran’s face returned in full force. Gritting his teeth, he said irritably, "I didn’t—"
A hint of amusent flashed in Song Zhehan’s eyes. "Mm, I know."
"It’s just a normal physiological reaction..."
"Mm, right," Song Zhehan agreed.
Zhang Qiran: "… I—"
Unable to continue, Zhang Qiran turned abruptly.
Song Zhehan quickly caught up, grabbing his arm. "Where do you think you're going?"
Zhang Qiran’s eyes reddened. "I'm going ho!"
"Aren’t you going to see Goushi?" Song Zhehan asked.
Zhang Qiran glared at him. "Haven’t I already seen you, the real Goushi?!"
Okay, maybe he had pushed him too far.
He was so mad he was blurting out insults.
Seeing that it was ti to back down, Song Zhehan grabbed his hand. "My parents are waiting for you at ho."
Zhang Qiran's eyes widened. "Isn't Goushi living with you?"
Song Zhehan led him toward the elevator, explaining, "I’ve been busy with work, and Goushi wasn’t feeling well recently. I couldn’t take care of him all the ti, so I brought him ho for my parents to watch over."
"Won’t it be inappropriate for to just show up at your house suddenly…"
Song Zhehan raised their clasped hands, glancing at him. "Haven't you t them plenty of tis as a kid? Or are you telling you don’t plan to stick around for the long haul? Were you lying when you said you’ve liked for years?"
Zhang Qiran’s face turned red as he glared at Song Zhehan. "You… I…"
He stamred for a while, but by the ti they reached the elevator, Zhang Qiran still hadn’t managed to say anything coherent.
It suddenly dawned on Zhang Qiran that ever since yesterday… no, ever since he had t Song Zhehan, it seed like he had always been led around by the nose by him.
The only ti he had resisted was that embarrassing drunken incident that night.
His mind was a complete ss. He hadn’t even sorted out the kiss they’d just shared, let alone Song Zhehan’s earlier words.
Does he like too?
Zhang Qiran’s eyes widened.
How had he forgotten such an important thing!
Without thinking, Zhang Qiran blurted out, "Song Zhehan, did you just say you like too?"
The elevator doors opened to reveal Song Zhehan’s parents standing there. "Xiangyang! You’re back!"
The two voices overlapped.
At that mont, Zhang Qiran felt his blood rush to his head, making him dizzy.
Song Zhehan slowly turned his head, giving him a calm look. "And you still say you're not dumb."
Just as he finished speaking, Song’s mother slapped him on the shoulder. "How can you talk to Xiangyang like that?!"
Song’s father pushed Song Zhehan aside. "Go let Goushi out," he said with a smile, turning back to Zhang Qiran. "Co on in, Xiaoyang. It's been so many years; you've grown even more handso!"
The two elders warmly pulled Zhang Qiran inside, completely ignoring Song Zhehan behind them.
Shaking his head, Song Zhehan changed his shoes and followed them in.
Song’s parents lived in a duplex apartnt.
They usually didn’t keep Goushi locked up, but because Zhang Qiran was coming today, they had temporarily put the dog in a room, worried that Goushi might not recognize him after so many years.
It had been a while since Goushi had last seen Song Zhehan too, and even before Song could open the door, the dog’s excited barks could be heard from inside.
Hearing the noise, Zhang Qiran glanced in their direction.
Song’s mother had already brought him a glass of water. Noticing his curiosity, she said, "Wait for him to bring Goushi out. Have so water first. Are you hot? Tired?"
Zhang Qiran responded to each question.
Soon, an excited bark sounded from the other room.
Zhang Qiran turned his head—
And saw Goushi bounding towards him, bouncing excitedly across the room.
He didn’t react quickly enough and was knocked onto the sofa by the dog.
Song’s father hurried over to pull Goushi back.
Song’s mother glared at Song Zhehan. "Didn’t I tell you to put a leash on him?!"
Song Zhehan shrugged. "He was too excited; he wouldn’t let ."
After a pause, his gaze fell on the sofa.
It was clear that Goushi had recognized Zhang Qiran’s scent. The dog was bouncing up and down, eagerly trying to lick him.
If Song’s parents hadn’t stopped him in ti, Goushi probably would’ve been all over Zhang Qiran’s face.
Looking down at the dog whimpering at his feet, Zhang Qiran was filled with surprise. "He… Goushi still rembers ?"
It wasn’t an unreasonable question.
Many animals don’t have strong mories, and they rely on scent to recognize humans. If soone had been gone too long, or their scent had changed, the animal might not imdiately recognize them.
It had been nine years since they’d last seen each other, so Zhang Qiran naturally assud Goushi had forgotten him.
Now twelve years old, Goushi’s fur had lost the sheen of his pri years.
Zhang Qiran reached out to pet his head, feeling a mix of emotions welling up inside him.
Watching the scene, Song Zhehan let out a self-deprecating laugh.
He didn’t say anything, but Song’s mother glanced at Song’s father, then leaned back with a smile. "You know, Goushi seems to have better eyesight than so people in this house."
Song’s father nodded in agreent. "Yes, indeed."
Zhang Qiran glanced at Song Zhehan, trying to suppress the smile creeping up his face but ultimately failing.
Song Zhehan’s expression didn’t change, but his lips tightened slightly.
Just when everyone thought he wouldn’t respond, he calmly sat down next to Zhang Qiran, motioning for Goushi to co over.
As Goushi padded over, Song Zhehan patted his head, then said in a low voice, "I may be blind, but aren’t you two professors just as guilty?"
His words landed, and the smiles on Song’s parents' faces froze.
Song’s mother quickly explained
, "Xiangyang…"
Song’s father chid in, "Yes, that was our fault, but Xiaoyang, you know your aunt and uncle don’t follow the entertainnt industry much…"
Back in middle school, Song Zhehan frequently bickered with his parents.
So this scene wasn’t unfamiliar to Zhang Qiran. Instead of being upset, he actually felt more at ease.
He couldn’t help but laugh.
Hearing his laughter, Song’s parents joined in, and the atmosphere quickly beca harmonious.
That evening, after dinner, Zhang Qiran and Song Zhehan finally left together.
As they got into the car, Zhang Qiran couldn’t stop smiling.
Starting the car, Song Zhehan glanced at him. "You’re that happy?"
Zhang Qiran nodded without hesitation. "Mm, I really didn’t expect Goushi and your parents to still rember ."
Of course, it wasn’t just that.
More importantly—
Zhang Qiran sneaked a look at Song Zhehan, but when he noticed Song’s gaze shifting toward him, he quickly looked away.
The most important thing was that Zhang Qiran now knew Song Zhehan liked him too.
There were still plenty of unanswered questions in his mind.
But right now, none of that mattered.
Song Zhehan understood Zhang Qiran? Just as Zhang understood Song Zhehan.
If Song didn’t truly like him, he wouldn’t have brought Zhang to his ho, nor would he have introduced him to his parents.
But—
When had it all begun?
The sky outside had long since darkened, and the car’s interior lights weren’t on.
Zhang Qiran turned his head, and in the faint light from outside, he could just make out Song Zhehan’s handso profile.
He stared at him quietly for a mont before finally turning his head back.
But right at that mont, Song Zhehan’s voice broke the silence. "What are you looking at?"
Zhang Qiran realized he’d been caught.
After confirming that Song Zhehan’s feelings matched his own, Zhang Qiran no longer felt as nervous or uncertain around him as he had earlier in the day. So, instead of answering, he simply shook his head, unwilling to respond.
Song Zhehan wasn’t surprised by the lack of response, having already noticed the change in Zhang Qiran’s attitude toward him—
No longer overly cautious, no longer lost or confused, and even showing a hint of secret joy.
After nine years apart, they hadn’t needed much ti to get reacquainted with each other.
Looking at it that way, those lost years hadn’t been a complete waste.
At least, during their ti apart, they had both figured out their true feelings.
Even though ti had passed quickly, the feelings hadn’t changed.
Song Zhehan dropped Zhang Qiran off at his hotel.
Before Zhang could get out of the car, Song Zhehan suddenly grabbed his hand.
Startled, Zhang Qiran’s face reddened. "What are you doing?"
Song Zhehan looked at him for a long mont before finally speaking. "When do we make it official?"
Zhang Qiran was stunned for a mont before realizing what Song Zhehan ant. "You an—"
Song Zhehan’s gaze deepened, watching him intently.
Zhang Qiran’s throat tightened, and his face grew even hotter. After a long pause, he muttered, "Isn’t it a bit too soon? I an, right now we’re…"
Song Zhehan understood and let go of his hand, amused. "So, you’re planning to just take what you want and not give a proper title?"
Zhang Qiran was shocked. "What do you an by that…"
Song Zhehan’s smile held a deeper aning.
Zhang Qiran suddenly thought of the kiss they’d shared before getting out of the car earlier in the day. He sat up straight. "I an… haven’t we already made it official today?"
His last sentence was spoken with a lack of confidence.
Zhang Qiran wasn’t sure what he was worried about. He just felt that the whole day had been a bit too surreal.
This was the relationship he had longed for, but now that it was finally happening, it didn’t feel real.
With just one look, Song Zhehan understood what he was thinking. He leaned in suddenly.
As the distance between them closed, Zhang Qiran froze, unable to move.
It wasn’t until their breaths were almost intertwined that Zhang Qiran realized Song Zhehan had lightly bitten his lips.
Zhang Qiran pushed him away, flustered. "Song… Song Zhehan, the paparazzi outside…"
Song Zhehan didn’t go any further, instead gazing at him with dark eyes. "Just give a ti."
"A ti for what?" Zhang Qiran was confused. "Wait, hold on, there’s no rush for this, right?"
"We just got together today. You’re busy with work, I’m busy too, and this is a crucial ti for your career. If we announce the relationship now, won’t it affect your work?"
Song Zhehan said nothing, simply watching Zhang Qiran.
A mont later, he straightened up and glanced at Zhang. "So, you never really intended to make it public?"
Zhang Qiran hurried to explain. "No, I just think it’s a bit inappropriate to make it public so soon…"
"Get out." Song Zhehan said.
Zhang Qiran’s heart sank, and his eyes instantly reddened. "Song… Song Zhehan."
Song Zhehan sighed.
He really thought Zhang Qiran was dense, but Zhang refused to admit it.
A mont later, Song Zhehan softened his tone. "You’re right. There’s no rush. I’m the one being impatient. It’s late, and didn’t you say you have an early shoot tomorrow?"
Zhang Qiran didn’t move, still sitting nervously in the passenger seat, cautiously watching Song Zhehan’s expression.
He was waiting for Song to speak again, but after a long while, it was clear that Song Zhehan had no intention of saying anything more.
Zhang Qiran grew even more anxious.
"Song Zhehan…" he began again, mustering his courage.
Suddenly, Song Zhehan pressed the gas pedal.
Zhang Qiran’s eyes widened in shock. "Where are you taking ?"
Song Zhehan said nothing, driving in silence.
It didn’t take long for Zhang Qiran to realize where Song Zhehan was taking him.
Song Zhehan drove him to his apartnt.
Once there, he didn’t give Zhang Qiran any ti to react, pulling him straight into the elevator.
Zhang Qiran suddenly felt nervous.
It was so late… Why was Song Zhehan bringing him back here?
Could it be…
An inappropriate thought crossed Zhang Qiran’s mind, reminding him of their steamy encounter in the car that afternoon.
His heart started pounding, and his breathing quickened. Zhang Qiran suddenly felt very tense.
But to his surprise, when they entered the apartnt and the door closed behind them, Song Zhehan didn’t lead him to the bathroom, nor did he kiss him imdiately!
Instead, Song Zhehan went straight to his study.
After waiting for a while without seeing him return, Song Zhehan eventually ca out, looking at Zhang Qiran with a hint of exasperation. "What are you standing there for?"
Zhang Qiran’s eyes were red, and he took a step back. "I… our first ti, in the study… isn’t that a bit much?"
Song Zhehan: "?"
After a long pause, Zhang Qiran heard Song Zhehan laugh uncontrollably, leaning against the doorfra.
He was laughing so hard that his shoulders shook, and even tears gathered at the corners of his eyes.
Seeing Song Zhehan’s reaction, Zhang Qiran suddenly realized he had misunderstood!
For a mont, Zhang Qiran wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
But there were no holes in the apartnt, and he couldn’t run away either. Red-faced, Zhang Qiran let himself be pulled into the study by Song Zhehan.
On the desk was a contract between Song Zhehan and his company.
"I signed a ten-year contract with the company. This is only the second year, and according to the terms, I’m not allowed to have any romantic relationships for the first five years. So you’re right. That’s why I’m preparing to terminate my contract with them. What about you?"
Zhang Qiran’s mind was still a ss when he heard Song Zhehan’s words.
"Huh?"
"What are you 'huh'-ing about?" Song Zhehan asked, looking down into Zhang Qiran’s evasive eyes.
Song Zhehan almost laughed from frustration. "Zhang Qiran, I’m talking about sothing serious here."
Zhang Qiran avoided his gaze, the redness in his cheeks not fading. "I… I know."
"You know nothing," Song Zhehan said.
Zhang Qiran hung his head. "It’s all because of you… You didn’t tell anything, so I…"
"Then tell specifically, what didn’t I tell you?" Song Zhehan asked.
Zhang Qiran bit his lip and finally said, "You never told when you started liking , and you didn’t tell why you suddenly brought back here. All I know is that you like , but… we’ve been apart for nine years. How could you just accept my confession out of the blue and agree to be with ? It feels like a dream…"
Song Zhehan looked at him. "I’m standing right here in front of you. Do
you still think you’re dreaming?"
Zhang Qiran cautiously lifted his eyes, seeing that Song Zhehan’s expression was normal and that he wasn’t angry. He nodded.
His mind was a complete ss, not just in his thoughts but in his heart as well.
These doubts had been nagging at him all day, and now he couldn’t hold them back any longer.
Zhang Qiran needed a reason, sothing that could give him the strength not to back down.
Otherwise, he would rather not start at all.
Song Zhehan understood. "So you want to know when I started liking you?"
Hearing this, Zhang Qiran’s ears turned red. He looked into Song Zhehan’s eyes and nodded. "Mm… I just didn’t expect it…"
Song Zhehan suddenly tilted his head down and kissed him.
Zhang Qiran was caught off guard, his lips slightly parted. The next mont, he found himself overwheld by the intensity of Song Zhehan’s kiss.
When their breathing beca erratic, Zhang Qiran heard Song Zhehan’s low, gritted voice by his ear, "Do you think I agreed to be with you just because you’re not that chubby kid anymore?"
The words "chubby kid" made Zhang Qiran’s breath hitch, and he imdiately felt a bit wronged. "I…"
His eyes reddened, tears beginning to well up.
Song Zhehan sat down in the chair in front of the desk, pulling Zhang Qiran onto his lap. His thumb brushed against the corner of Zhang’s eyes before he leaned in to kiss his eyelids.
Startled by the action, Zhang Qiran instinctively tried to pull back.
But Song Zhehan had already anticipated his move and tightened his grip around Zhang’s waist, preventing him from retreating.
"I’m not soone who likes to say sweet things," Song Zhehan’s breath fell on Zhang Qiran’s closed eyelashes, tickling him until he had to turn his head slightly. Song Zhehan continued, "So I’ll only say this once, just like when I said I like you."
Zhang Qiran opened his eyes, his dark pupils misted with tears.
Song Zhehan’s large hand slid up, cupping Zhang Qiran’s neck as he pressed heated kisses to his lips, his neck, and every spot he could reach.
As he kissed, Song Zhehan whispered, "I didn’t start liking you because you beca more attractive."
"Xiangyang, I like you because it’s you. Do you understand?"
Zhang Qiran’s breathing quickened, and he struggled to avoid Song Zhehan’s kisses. But the beast that Song had suppressed for so long was finally unleashed, holding him in place, refusing to let him escape.
All of Zhang Qiran’s resistance was easily overco. With tear-filled eyes, he stamred, "Because it’s … You an…"
"Mm," Song Zhehan bit down hard on Zhang Qiran’s swollen lips before rasping, "Nine years ago, when I was in eighth grade, I already liked you."
Zhang Qiran trembled. "No… no way…"
"If that weren’t the case, why would I have been angry enough to throw away my SIM card?" Song Zhehan asked.
"SIM card?"
"Mm, the reason you couldn’t find wasn’t because I moved and changed my number. I was angry with you, Xiangyang…"
"I was mad that you didn’t contact for a month, mad that you stood up that day, mad that even though you knew I was allergic to milk, you still tried to make goat milk cake, then made just one cake and ran off."
"Xiangyang, you were too much." Amid the intimate kisses, Zhang Qiran vaguely heard these confessions.
Song Zhehan rarely opened his heart to anyone.
But once he did, it showed just how important that person was to him.
Zhang Qiran didn’t even rember how he left the study.
He only knew that, even after Song Zhehan had pushed him away to shower, he sat on the bed, unable to calm his thoughts.
After a while, he found himself walking toward the bathroom door and pushing it open.
Song Zhehan’s deep eyes fell on him. "Are you sure?"
Zhang Qiran’s answer was a kiss.
On the fourth day of their reunion, Song Zhehan and Zhang Qiran officially confird their relationship.
Two years later, when Ye Leyao learned that they had gotten together so quickly, she was shocked. "You guys were together that early, but why did Goushi look so grumpy during the recording of the fourth episode?"
Hearing this, Zhang Qiran’s face imdiately flushed red.
Song Zhehan gave him a calm glance before replying, "Because the day before we left for filming, I found out that he had a fiancé behind my back."
"A fiancé?!" Zhang Qiran was furious, standing up at once. "I already explained that to you! It was my mom who set up with a blind date because she was worried I wouldn’t move on. I only t him once!"
"Oh, you t him once?" Song Zhehan’s face remained cold as he sneered. "So you were quite satisfied with him, huh?"
Zhang Qiran glared at him, looking fierce. "I already explained! The only reason we t was because he happened to be at my family’s banquet that day…"
Song Zhehan turned and walked away, signaling that he didn’t want to hear any more explanations.
Zhang Qiran quickly followed, and even from a distance, Ye Leyao and the others could still hear him explaining.
Once they were out of view of the caras, Song Zhehan stopped, tapping a spot on his face.
Zhang Qiran hesitated for a second before standing on his tiptoes to plant a kiss on Song Zhehan’s cheek.
Watching this, the group couldn’t hold back anymore, exclaiming in unison, "Ew—"
Their voices were loud and perfectly synchronized, making Zhang Qiran’s face flush bright red, just like the day he had stood in the restaurant, blushing as he confessed to Song Zhehan.
Ti had passed, but their love remained.
They still had a long future ahead of them.
