The Performance Begins

The Ancient Abyss Orb—an artifact capable of shaking the very foundations of the cultivation world.

No matter how much He Ange calculated, he could never have anticipated that such a legendary treasure would end up in the hands of a re Holy Son of the Demon Sect.

It was said that a single Abyss Orb could corrupt a person’s mind. If paired with its counterpart, the Abyss Spirit Orb, it could unlock the true power of the abyss, unleashing ancient sealed evils from its depths.

This, it seed, was Nightfall’s ultimate ambition.

His plan was to use the Abyss Orb to control He Ange’s will, extract every ounce of value from him, and, once he secured the Abyss Spirit Orb buried beneath Yong’an City, combine the two artifacts to ascend in the demonic path.

A grand villainous sche, indeed.

Bathed in the Abyss Orb’s sinister glow, He Ange exhaled softly, his heart filled with a grudging admiration for Nightfall.

By all rights, he should have been corrupted by the Abyss Orb by now, reduced to a mindless servant of Nightfall.

But Feng Yuan’s bloodline had saved him.

Though He Ange wasn’t particularly powerful, he was a rogue cultivator blessed by Feng Yuan’s initial embrace. As a demonic deity, Feng Yuan’s bloodline granted him a natural resistance to the abyss’s influence. A single Abyss Orb wasn’t enough to brainwash him.

However, this left He Ange with a new problem.

He might have escaped being brainwashed, but how was he supposed to deal with Nightfall, who now believed his plan had succeeded?

Feng Yuan’s earlier words gave He Ange an idea.

The Abyss Orb was dazzling, its allure undeniable.

If He Ange could sohow get his hands on it, wouldn’t that be a ga-changer? With such a treasure, he could corrupt anyone below the level of an immortal and beco the protagonist of his own dark saga.

The Abyss Orb was indeed a priceless treasure.

After a mont of contemplation, He Ange devised a plan.

Feigning confusion, he opened his eyes and stared blankly at Nightfall, his gaze vacant and unfocused.

It was as if...

He had beco a puppet.

“Haha! As expected of the Ancient Abyss Orb! Its ability to control minds is truly marvelous!” Nightfall exclaid, his joy overflowing.

He raised the Abyss Orb high above his head, as if crowning himself the emperor of the demonic realm.

Before, as a re Holy Son, he had to negotiate with enigmatic figures like He Ange on equal footing. But now, with the Abyss Orb, he could effortlessly control anyone below the Nascent Soul stage. It was a ga-changer, eliminating the risk of betrayal.

“Mr. He, now that you’re under my control, let’s start with the basics. Who are you, really?” Nightfall asked, twirling the Abyss Orb in his hand as he sat down.

“The Moon Sect. A demonic cultivator,” He Ange replied, his tone flat.

“That’s it?”

“Yes...” He Ange nodded blankly.

“Then where did you get all those demonic pills? Who’s your supplier?”

“My senior sister, Mu Yanli.”

“Mu Yanli again?”

“Yes.”

He Ange maintained his calm deanor, expertly shifting the bla.

Nightfall, convinced that He Ange was now his puppet, found his answers entirely credible.

This was a golden opportunity for He Ange. There was no way he’d implicate his benefactors, Qin Shiyan and Feng Yuan. Instead, he doubled down on framing Mu Yanli.

“Mu Yanli, that vile woman. On the surface, she’s the Moon Sect’s star witch, but behind the scenes, she’s running an arms trade, sowing chaos wherever she goes! And to think she had the audacity to claim the Moon Sect’s neutrality at the Demon Realm Conference. Disgusting!” Nightfall spat, his disdain palpable.

But soon, suspicion crept into his mind.

“So, Mr. He, your presence in Yong’an City must also be on Mu Yanli’s orders, correct?”

“Yes.”

“What task did she assign you?”

“To monitor the movents of the Yumo Sect and the Shengxu Sect. She also allowed to supply the Yumo Sect with demonic pills, but only to uncover their true plans. She even instructed to find an opportunity to backstab the Demon Sect’s Holy Son,” He Ange said, fabricating the story on the spot.

Nightfall believed every word, nodding as if all his doubts had been resolved.

He couldn’t help but admire his own foresight.

How fortunate that he had successfully brainwashed He Ange tonight. If this boy had escaped, the secret of the Abyss Orb would have reached Mu Yanli’s ears. That woman would have undoubtedly traveled to Yong’an City to claim the artifact for herself, possibly even beating Nightfall to a pulp in the process.

“Now that you’re aware of my plans, Mr. He, I trust you know how to report back to your senior sister?” Nightfall asked.

“Yes, I’ll tell her that the Yumo Sect has been quiet recently, with no unusual activity,” He Ange replied calmly.

Nightfall’s face lit up with delight. “Haha! Excellent, excellent! Even in your brainwashed state, you’re so clever and cooperative. Mu Yanli is lucky to have such a capable junior brother. If only you could assist as well!”

“Your Highness, if you ever need my help, just say the word. I’ll do whatever you ask,” He Ange said, his tone respectful.

Nightfall, overjoyed, patted He Ange on the shoulder. “Mr. He, since you’re so willing, I have a few tasks for you. Please rember them well.”

“First, you’ll supply the Yumo Sect with a large quantity of demonic pills. While I’ve brainwashed you, I’ll still ensure you’re compensated fairly, so the Moon Sect’s records won’t cause you trouble.”

“Second, you’ll abandon your identity as a Moon Sect cultivator and work for the Yumo Sect, helping take over Yong’an City.”

“Third, once our plan succeeds, you’ll return to the Moon Sect as a spy, feeding information about their activities.”

“Do you understand?”

Nightfall turned to face He Ange, his black eyes sharp and probing.

This was his final test for the boy.

He Ange, maintaining his vacant expression, replied, “Understood, Your Highness.”

He knelt on one knee, bowing his head.

Out of Nightfall’s sight, a sly, almost demonic smile crept across He Ange’s lips.

“May Your Highness conquer Yong’an City and unite the unparalleled treasures!” he said.

That night, He Ange left the black market unscathed.

After ensuring he wasn’t being followed, he found a secluded stream and stripped down, thoroughly inspecting himself for any hidden marks or curses.

He found nothing.

It seed Nightfall, overly confident in the Abyss Orb’s power, had trusted that He Ange was fully under his control. This arrogance had spared He Ange from any additional safeguards.

Of course, it also helped that He Ange’s acting had been flawless, leaving Nightfall completely satisfied.

By the end of the night, He Ange had not only secured a lucrative deal but also uncovered the Yumo Sect’s grand sche. And he had pinned all the bla on the Moon Sect.

Now, it was ti to return to the Shengxu Sect.

If he delayed too long, Qin Shiyan might worry that he had been captured—or worse, defected to the Demon Sect.

“Master, your disciple seeks an audience,” He Ange announced, standing before the grand doors of Shiyun Pavilion.

“Enter,” ca the reply.

The doors opened, and He Ange stepped inside, imdiately greeted by the sight of the stunning black-dressed fairy seated on her floating dragon chair.

Gulp.

He Ange swallowed nervously.

He had just spent the evening deceiving the Demon Sect’s Holy Son, and now he had to face soone even more formidable: the righteous fairy of poetry.

“He Ange, you’ve returned quite late. Did you uncover anything in the black market?” Qin Shiyan asked, her tone calm but probing.

“Yes, Master,” He Ange replied, kneeling with a respectful bow.

He knew...

It was ti to put on another performance.

After all, such valuable information couldn’t be delivered all at once. The more he teased, the more valuable it would seem.
