The door creaked as Yu Li pushed it open and stepped into the stairwell, but strangely, the motion-sensor lights didn't turn on.

Holding up her phone for light in the pitch-black stairway, Yu Li could still hear Head Nurse Yu Yu's warning echoing in her ears: "The director wants you to fetch docunts from the fifth floor. Take the stairs up, but rember—if you hear anything from the fourth floor, don't go in. Just head straight to the fifth floor."

She began climbing slowly. When she reached the fourth floor landing, the tal door beside her suddenly slamd with a loud BANG!

"THUD!"

The sound reverberated through the vast, dark stairwell, mingling with faint, ghostly sobs.

Yu Li froze, her eyes dropping to stare at the door handle.

[Do you think she'll go in?]

[I bet she will. The fourth floor monster's bait is so obvious—no way Yu Li doesn't notice.]

[But didn't Bo Jingmo specifically forbid going to the fourth floor? He even intercepted her earlier. That man definitely knows sothing's wrong up there.]

[I'm dying to know what's on the fourth floor though. All these NPCs keep warning her how terrifying it is.]

[What if she can't handle whatever's inside? She should just call Bo Jingmo down to go with her.]

[For safety's sake, Yu Li shouldn't risk the fourth floor alone. If that evil spirit really wants to harm her, this would be playing right into its hands.]

Under the virtual audience's watchful eyes, the young woman remained motionless—but the door handle began slowly turning downward by itself.

"Click—"

A soft sound pierced the air as the fourth floor door cracked open slightly. A chilling draft rushed out, carrying whispers of cold wind.

The dark hallway stood silent and empty, almost... inviting.

Yu Li shone her flashlight down the corridor, revealing nothing but several closed doors. Even the mournful sobbing had stopped.

She hesitated only a mont before hurried footsteps suddenly echoed from above. Looking up, she saw a familiar figure appear on the stairwell platform.

"Yu Li—!"

In the darkness, she couldn't make out the man's expression, but she could sense his agitated, almost panicked energy.

Pausing, she lowered her phone. "Director?"

The man stiffened visibly before giving a tight "Mmm." He quickly descended, his voice strained. "Co upstairs with ."

The dim flashlight glow reflected off the floor, just bright enough to reveal his uneasy expression.

Yu Li tilted her head, her hand slowly returning to the door handle. Then—under Bo Jingmo's watchful gaze—she decisively pushed the tal door shut.

"I was just making sure it closed properly before going up." Her eyes scanned his face. "By the way, Director, why did you co down so suddenly?"

Bo Jingmo pressed his lips together, his voice hoarse. "I... just waited too long. Worried sothing might have happened."

As they ascended together, Yu Li's voice echoed through the empty stairwell: "Happened? Like what?" She chuckled lightly. "It's not like there are murderers in the hospital, right?"

"......"

Feeling the man's silence beside her, she glanced over. "Just joking. You don't mind, do you?"

Bo Jingmo clenched his fists, his expression unreadable. After a long pause, he finally murmured, "...No."

They soon reached the fifth floor, whose layout differed markedly from the others. Yu Li noticed several doors were securely locked, and the tallic tang of blood grew stronger as they passed.

She casually glanced at a window.

Great. The curtains were drawn tight too.

Following Bo Jingmo to his office, she spotted a naplate on his desk: "Bo Jingmo."

Her gaze lingered before she slowly pronounced it: "Bo... Jingmo..."

Her voice was low and asured, the upward lilt at the end carrying a subtle amusent that sohow felt tantalizing in the quiet office.

Hearing this, Bo Jingmo stiffened mid-reach for docunts. Electricity seed to shoot through his body, his heart fluttering as if brushed by feathers.

His eyes darkened as he handed her the file, his Adam's apple bobbing. "Give this to Yu Yu later."

Yu Li smiled, taking it. "Understood, Director."

"Mmm."

"......"

In the heavy silence, Yu Li maintained her smile. "If there's nothing else, I'll head back now."

But as she turned to leave, the man suddenly grabbed her arm. "Wait—"

"Hiss—"

Before he could speak, the young woman gasped sharply, her brows knitting in apparent discomfort.

Startled, he imdiately released her. "Did I hurt you?"

Yu Li shook her head, hiding her hands behind her back as she murmured, "No, it's my own issue. I'll go now, Director."

Seeing her like this inexplicably unsettled Bo Jingmo.

Frowning, he stood frozen for several seconds before speaking softly, as if realizing sothing: "Was it from being scratched by a patient this afternoon?" Such incidents weren't uncommon in psychiatric wards, and many staff had gotten scratched today.

The young woman neither confird nor denied, simply standing there with her head bowed.

Bo Jingmo's frown deepened, though he couldn't bring himself to reprimand her. "You didn't treat it?"

Finally, she looked up—her eyes slightly red-rimd.

"I didn't have ti. And like I said, it's fine. Others looked worse off than ."

Under the lights, her beautiful fox-like eyes glistened with unshed tears, the faint redness at the corners like tiny hooks. Her fair face wore an expression of quiet grievance.

Bo Jingmo's breath caught, his heart lurching violently as he unconsciously stepped closer.

"Ba—"

He nearly blurted out "Baby," freezing in horror at himself. Was he really that kind of man? Fortunately, he caught himself just in ti.

"You... should treat wounds promptly. They'll hurt more later otherwise."

If she noticed his near-slip, Yu Li gave no sign, rely pressing her lips together. "Thank you for your concern, Director. I'll handle it myself when I have ti. It's not really appropriate here anyway."

"It's fine. I have a first aid kit right here—won't take long." With that, Bo Jingmo turned to retrieve the kit from a cabinet, leaving no room for refusal.

The kit was well-stocked, but the bandaging supplies showed obvious frequent use.

Yu Li narrowed her eyes slightly.

That blood sll... she thought she knew its origin now.

In the end, she didn't refuse Bo Jingmo's assistance, settling onto the office's leather sofa before slowly rolling up her sleeve under his gaze.

Her slender arm was smooth and pale as fine jade under the light—except for the ugly purple scratches marring its surface, so still bearing faint scabbed-over cuts.

Though Bo Jingmo said nothing, his expression darkened imdiately.

Holding tweezers with one hand, he carefully lifted a cotton ball. Then, to better apply dicine, he tentatively cradled her arm in his other hand.

The mont his cool fingertips touched her warm skin, his entire body stiffened. Suppressing the urge to caress that softness, he focused on properly dressing the wound.

Yu Li smiled faintly, propping her chin on her hand as she lazily watched him work.

The man had a straight nose, long lashes, and an air of noble reserve. His lips were pressed together in concentration, his handso features cast in shadows that added an inexplicable allure.

Just as Bo Jingmo focused on the task, the young woman suddenly leaned forward—closing the distance between them.

All his barely-suppressed thoughts ca rushing back. Frozen in place, he could only watch helplessly as she kept leaning closer...

Closer... until he caught that intoxicating fragrance again.

He should stand up. Create distance.

Bo Jingmo knew this rationally—yet his body refused to move, greedily craving more instead.

He could even feel her warm breath ghosting over his cheek now.

His head spun dizzily, as if floating among clouds.

Noticing his tension, the young woman laughed softly.

"Director... you're squeezing too tight."
