Cen Xiu quickly looked over at the two people across from him. Bo Jingmo didn’t really react—he only lifted his gaze and glanced lightly at Qi Mai.

Too weird!

He actually saw a hint of approval in Bo Jingmo’s eyes.

Cen Xiu couldn’t believe it.

Yu Li, on the other hand, laughed softly when she heard that: “You got it wrong, he’s my senior.”

“Ah, I see.” Qi Mai’s face grew even more awkward, “Sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

She looked down at her phone, then turned to Bo Jingmo, “Senior, should I wait for you outside?”

Bo Jingmo shook his head, “No need. Let’s go together. There’s nothing more to say.”

Watching the two of them leave, Guangran’s eyes showed a thoughtful expression. She asked Cen Xiu, “That girl... is she also a Player?”

Cen Xiu walked up to them and shook his head, “Probably not. I didn’t sense any system presence on her. I even ntioned instances in front of her on purpose before—she didn’t seem to know anything about them.”

“Could she be a high-level Player? Using an item to hide her system?” Guangran suggested.

After all, high-level Players had more privileges and were more mysterious. It’d make sense if she didn’t want to reveal her identity.

“Probably not, right?” Cen Xiu thought back to the first ti he t Yu Li—he had thought she looked a lot like Qing Li from the instance.

Even if she were high-level, it’s impossible for her to turn into an NPC from the instance, right?

Seeing Guangran still staring at Yu Li, Cen Xiu asked, a bit confused, “You saw her in an instance before?”

“No, never saw her.” Guangran withdrew her gaze and walked with them, “She just really resembles an NPC I encountered.”

Hearing that, Cen Xiu froze in place, looking shocked: “You too...??”

At first, Guangran didn’t get it: “What?”

What do you an her too?

Cen Xiu looked like he had just found a kindred spirit. Oh god, soone else felt the sa way!

He excitedly shared, “I t an NPC in an instance who looked kinda like her too. You know that feeling, right? Like, at first glance it’s really similar, but if you look closer it’s not—but the vibe is just too similar.”

That was sothing Guangran hadn’t expected. She paused, “Really?”

Was this just a coincidence… or sothing more?

Especially when she saw Yu Li standing next to Bo Jingmo, her heart nearly skipped a beat.

For a split second, she saw the image from an instance flash across her mind.

A woman in a red wedding dress and a man standing in the courtyard—and their faces nearly overlapped with the two people just now.

It gave her a weird déjà vu, like an NPC had walked out of an instance.

That thought made Guangran shake her head hard.

An NPC walking out of an instance?

Absolutely impossible!

anwhile, on the other side.

The interruption from that group had forced Bo Jingmo to swallow back the question he wanted to ask. Even after they finished dinner, he still hadn’t found the right mont to say it.

His eyes kept drifting toward that perfu bag. Just imagining that gift ending up in the hands of so random guy made his chest tighten.

If he couldn’t ask, he’d just have to find out another way.

The investigation he ordered hadn’t reported back yet. While Yu Li went to the restroom, Bo Jingmo followed up with the people on that end.

Before he could get a reply, he saw Yu Li coming back out of the corner of his eye. Maybe it was the guilt talking, but he quickly turned off his screen and smiled warmly: “Wanna go for a walk? There’s a famous fountain square nearby—there’s a show at night.”

Yu Li looked curious, “Really? Let’s go then.” She casually picked up the gift bag from the seat.

Bo Jingmo’s gaze flickered, “I’ll carry it for you.”

But Yu Li politely declined, smiling as she lifted the bag in her hand, “It’s fine, I’ll hold onto this one myself.”

His fingers curled slightly against the table. He forced a smile, one that ca out a little stiff: “...Alright.”

The sky darkened quickly. Before dinner, it had been sunset. By the ti they ca out, night had fallen. The streetlights had turned on, the temperature dropped sharply, and a chilly wind blew.

Yu Li tightened her coat and, looking at the increasingly crowded streets, smiled toward Bo Jingmo, “Are all these people heading to the fountain too? Looks like it’s pretty famous.”

Bo Jingmo gave a soft “Mm.” Truthfully, he’d never seen it himself—it was sothing he found from a phone guide.

He looked down at his phone and told Yu Li, “Wait a sec.” Then he turned and walked off.

Yu Li watched his back with so confusion but still waited where she was.

She looked down at what she was holding, and her lips curved slightly.

“Sis, is this for Bo Jingmo?” the system asked, knowing full well she didn’t have any so-called online friend—Bo Jingmo was the only one from beginning to end.

Yu Li lowered her eyes and smiled, “Yeah, I’m planning to tell him the truth.”

Even if she didn’t, the guy would realize sothing was off soon enough.

Still, before she ca clean… she’d let that fool keep guessing for a little longer.

Before long, Bo Jingmo ca back with a cup of milk tea in his hand. Yu Li looked surprised when he handed it over, “Didn’t we just eat? I can’t drink anything else.”

“For your hands,” Bo Jingmo explained seriously, “It’s cold tonight. Just hold it to keep warm.”

His eyes fell to the bag in Yu Li’s hands, “Let carry that for you.”

The aning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer.

Yu Li, holding the warm milk tea, let out a soft laugh and finally gave in, handing the perfu bag to him, “Alright, then I’ll trouble you, Senior.”

As the crowd moved toward the square, an announcent nearby signaled the show was about to begin. She looked at Bo Jingmo, “Let’s go, Senior.”

“Okay.”

They picked a slightly higher spot near the back. It wasn’t front row, but it was still a perfect viewing location. There weren’t as many people here, since most wanted to crowd up front for a better look.

The show hadn’t started yet. Bo Jingmo turned to look at the girl’s profile and unconsciously tightened his grip on the bag, knowing this was the best ti to ask.

After a few seconds of silence, he finally said, “When did you et your online friend?”

“Not long ago—just these past few days,” Yu Li said with a smile, “He wasn’t quite what I expected. Or I guess… not like how he was in the ga.”

Not like? Was he not good-looking?

“Aren’t you worried he might be a bad guy? He’s just a stranger, after all.” Bo Jingmo’s gaze flickered. After a brief pause, he added, “You should be careful with blind etups. Did he give you anything? There are a lot of scamrs out there—you need to be cautious.”

Yu Li sipped her milk tea and smiled, not answering that topic. Instead, she asked, “Senior, did you et that in-ga friend of yours?”

Bo Jingmo froze at the sudden question. He looked toward the fountain and, after a long pause, said, “Yeah.”

“Also in the past few days?”

“Mm.”

Yu Li let out a soft laugh, “What a coincidence.”

But after a short silence, Bo Jingmo said, “But we’re just not the sa.”

The girl looked over, curious, “Oh? How are you not the sa?”

As the countdown began in the broadcast, the fountain square erupted with jets of water in ti with the music. The multicolored lights lit up the splashing water, making the scene dazzling and vibrant. The crowd below cheered and laughed, the whole place alive with energy.

But the man beside her just watched in silence.

While everyone else was celebrating, Bo Jingmo turned to look at her slowly. His eyes curved as he forced a smile—but in his gaze was helpless sorrow.

He spoke softly, his voice barely audible, like the wind could carry it away.

“Because… she didn’t recognize .”
