Fu Zhen couldn’t possibly have guessed!

But she wondered, "Why is Manager Feng coming to the capital?"

"Where is he now?"

Fu Zhen had never t Manager Feng, so she figured his visit to the capital was mainly to see Mrs. Ning. For her to rush over now would seem sowhat unnecessary, so she put her mind at ease.
Still, his sudden decision to co to the capital to see Mrs. Ning was indeed surprising.
Fu Zhen decided to visit the Ning Family the next day, and told Pei Mu, "Since you’re here, stay and have a al with us. Tomorrow, I will properly welco you."
Mrs. Feng also said, "We’re all family, the food is already on the table, let’s go."
Pei Mu indeed did not feel like an outsider, and he readily agreed, then cheerfully went out to et Liang Chen and the others.
Dinner was indeed a joyous occasion for both guests and hosts, and it went on unrestrainedly until late at night.
On the way back, Fu Zhen and Pei Zhan shared a carriage. Pei Zhan had drunk quite a bit, and though he didn’t say much on the road, his deanor appeared quite relaxed and happy.
After returning to Pei Mansion, he stood outside the carriage until Fu Zhen had disembarked safely, only then did they walk into the house together.
The night was uneventful.
The next morning, Pei Zhan went to the camp as usual, while Fu Zhen went to Mrs. Pei’s room to have breakfast with the couple.
During the al, she inquired about the disappearance of the crown prince in Huzhou, and as Mrs. Feng expected, Pei Yu was not by the emperor’s side at the ti, so he was unaware of the incident.
Fu Zhen did not delve deeper and, after having tea, hurried to the Ning Family.
She originally thought that Mrs. Ning would still be ho at this ti, but just as she entered the room, the steward said that Mrs. Ning had gone to Wanbin Building early in the morning because an old acquaintance from Huzhou had arrived at the restaurant, and she had gone early to make arrangents.
This surprised Fu Zhen once more, as Manager Feng had an extraordinary relationship with the Ning Family, which would not change regardless of whether Ning Pochi was alive or not.
But in Fu Zhen’s view, Mrs. Ning’s commands at Wanbin Building would never be disregarded, and even if Mrs. Ning didn’t go, Manager Feng would never be neglected.
Fu Zhen therefore hastened to Wanbin Building and upon inquiry, found that Mrs. Ning was indeed there, talking with Manager Feng in the back loft.
Fu Zhen didn’t need the waiters to guide her; she went up to the loft by herself.
Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, she heard voices from above, but they were speaking in a low tone.
Fu Zhen stopped and coughed lightly, then raised her voice and asked, "Mother, are you up there?"
The loft was silent for a mont, and then Mrs. Ning’s voice ca from the top of the stairs, "Zhen Er, co up."
Only then did Fu Zhen quickly ascend, seeing that the spacious loft had Mrs. Ning standing by the stairway welcoming her, and a man in his fifties, wearing a silk robe, standing in the middle of the room, looking at her with a warm gaze.
"Is this Miss Zhen?"
"Indeed it is." Mrs. Ning smiled, gesturing for Fu Zhen to greet him, "Co et Grandpa Feng."
Fu Zhen made a bow and addressed him as Grandpa Feng, then said, "I heard from our General Xiao Pei yesterday that you ca to the capital with him.
"How was your journey?"
"Very well." Manager Feng appeared kind and nodded with a smile, then praised, "It’s been many years, yet Miss Zhen has grown even better, and seems more robust. It’s truly delightful.
"Moreover, now that you’ve found such a good husband, becoming a worthy companion to the current General Pingxi, it’s truly remarkable!
"Your late grandfather would be overjoyed to see this!"
Fu Zhen also replied with a smile, "Grandpa Feng, why haven’t you visited us in the capital for so many years? I believe the last ti I saw you was at my grandfather’s funeral, which was six or seven years ago now."
"Isn’t that true?" Manager Feng said, becoming serious, "I was just discussing this with your mother. It’s not that I didn’t want to co, but circumstances were beyond my control."
