After Shen Bin made a phone call to the family from the hospital, he returned to the ward again. On the way back, he thought it wasn’t convenient for him to stay there, but with no one else around and things still unresolved, he had no choice but to head back to the ward.
"Brother-in-law, you don’t need to call the aunt from our family here. Zhiyuan will be coming soon, and it’s enough for him to take care of . We don’t need so many people. Besides, it’s nothing serious. I’m just under observation here today and can go ho tomorrow," Ye Qian said, still with a hint of grievance in her eyes as she glanced at Shen Bin’s face and then turned to look out the window.
Shen Bin pulled a chair over and sat far from the bedside, "There’s no need for you to say that. Zhiyuan doesn’t know when he’ll co, so let my family’s aunt co to take care of you first. When Zhiyuan arrives, the aunt can leave, and it won’t be much trouble."
"Alright, sorry for the bother," Ye Qian responded softly but didn’t say more, keeping her head down, looking at her fingers.
The ward was silent with not a sound. Liu Zhiyuan saw Shen Bin sitting far from the bed and his wife quietly lying there through the glass window on the door as he walked into the room.
After receiving his mother’s hysterical call, Liu Zhiyuan dropped everything and rushed to the hospital, expecting to find Ye Qian in deep distress. However, she appeared calm, just sitting there quietly as if nothing had happened.
Liu Zhiyuan knew he shouldn’t overthink and should go in to console her, but seeing Ye Qian’s calm deanor, he couldn’t bring himself to move.
Reflecting on his mother’s words during the call and Ye Qian’s current attitude, Liu Zhiyuan felt perhaps the child wasn’t as important to Ye Qian, and she hadn’t welcod its arrival.
Before he could enter, he heard his wife’s probing, cautious voice inside, "Brother-in-law, do you like my sister’s personality? Don’t you find her too strong? Her temper is so stubborn, she always wants to understand everything and never considers others’ feelings."
Shen Bin looked at her with a calm expression, his voice consistently cold, "In my eyes, your sister has a very good temper, and I like her straightforwardness, just like people in our company. After being there for a long ti, this kind of temperant is common."
He glanced at her aningfully, "Your sister has always been considerate, like when I ca back this ti, it was right on New Year’s Day, and she was heavily pregnant. She didn’t complain a single ti and kept comforting , telling not to worry about her. Ye Qian, I know there are many conflicts between you and your sister, but I think if you carefully observe, you will find her personality is actually quite good."
Although Ye Qian’s miscarriage was caused by the Shen Family, Shen Bin should feel guilty, but hearing Ye Qian’s evaluation of his wife made him uncomfortable and unhappy. Still, he didn’t show it on his face, though the seriousness in his eyes made Ye Qian avoid his gaze guiltily.
"Brother-in-law, don’t you like gentle girls? Isn’t it true that most n like such girls?" Ye Qian persisted.
Shen Bin earnestly nodded, "I don’t know what others like, but I like your sister."
At this mont, impatience flashed in Shen Bin’s eyes. He felt discussing such topics with Ye Qian wasn’t appropriate. The person in front of him was his younger sister-in-law, and if it weren’t for her current situation, he wouldn’t have engaged in such conversations with her.
Perhaps because of what happened with Shen Chun, Shen Bin couldn’t bring himself to feel favorable or soften toward Ye Qian, who seed gentle and understanding on the surface. Every ti he saw Ye Qian’s deanor, he unconsciously thought of Shen Chun, his sister, who used to be so kind, or perhaps she still appeared kind on the surface now, but internally? Shen Bin didn’t want to think too much.
Standing outside, Liu Zhiyuan watched this scene calmly, first furrowing his brows then a realization flashed in his eyes, followed by a hint of anger. He was a man, not a fool. He might have overthought before, but the interactions with his wife in the past six months and her current behavior made it impossible not to think deeply.
Perhaps Shen Bin inside hadn’t noticed, but Liu Zhiyuan, as an observer, could easily see the special regard his wife had for Shen Bin or, more accurately, his wife’s heart secretly longed for her brother-in-law.
Liu Zhiyuan was also shocked by this realization, but the fact was right in front of him, and he couldn’t deny it even if he wanted to.
The conversation in the room reached a pause, and Liu Zhiyuan didn’t go in but turned to leave. He walked out of the hospital, smoked two cigarettes outside to calm himself, and then turned back inside.
This ti, upon returning, he directly pushed the door open and entered the room. The two inside saw him enter, and Shen Bin stood up first, while Ye Qian slowly sat up on the bed, eyes moist, quietly watching him as if she had suffered a great grievance.
If he hadn’t heard the previous conversation or seen the prior scene, seeing his wife like this, he would naturally have felt pity and would have comforted her gently. But now it was impossible; he already knew his wife’s inner thoughts, so facing her aggrieved deanor, Liu Zhiyuan felt not a trace of sympathy but rather disgust and repulsion.
"Zhiyuan, you know everything that happened, right? I really apologize for this incident," Shen Bin said apologetically as he approached Liu Zhiyuan.
Liu Zhiyuan smiled politely, "No one wants such things to happen, and no one would do it intentionally. There’s no need for you to overthink. It’s just that the child wasn’t ant to be with our family. Besides, Ye Qian and I are still young; there will be more chances in the future."
Shen Bin didn’t say much but raised his hand to pat Liu Zhiyuan’s shoulder, though the guilt in his eyes was undeniable, "Why don’t you have a chat with Ye Qian first? I’ll go and smoke a cigarette outside."
"It’s been a busy day, why don’t you head back ho? It’s not convenient for you to stay here. We can talk about anything else later," Liu Zhiyuan, surprisingly, held no resentnt, "Given it’s right around the New Year, you should go back and spend more ti with aunt and uncle. I’ll find a ti to visit them for New Year’s greetings."
Shen Bin had felt inconvenienced staying there earlier, but it wasn’t appropriate to suggest leaving due to the situation. Now that Liu Zhiyuan suggested it, he didn’t hesitate. After exchanging a few more words, Shen Bin turned and left, ntioning arrangents for their family’s aunt to bring als. Liu Zhiyuan thanked him and saw Shen Bin out before turning back to the ward.
