Ye Ling listened to Shen Bin and didn’t say much, just remarked, "The first day I t Wang Ping, she seed to be soone who likes to stir up trouble and gossip. If Shen Chun’er feels bored, it’s better for her to hang out more with Li Hua, who’s honest and straightforward. Anyway, it’s just a suggestion, like you said, with only a few families around, what could possibly happen."
"I’ll find so ti to talk to Chun’er about it," Shen Bin said, inviting her to bed, "Let’s sleep."
Ye Ling smirked without moving, arms crossed in front of her chest, "Sure, but first, tell honestly, where did you sleep last night?"
"At ho," Shen Bin answered straightforwardly.
"At least you’re honest, weren’t you supposed to sleep at the company yesterday?" Ye Ling was pleased to hear he slept at ho; at least this man who seems so blunt without being chauvinistic had stayed ho.
Shen Bin embraced her on the bed, "I was worried you might get scared at night."
Ye Ling smiled gently.
The next morning, despite feeling sore all over, Ye Ling got up with Shen Bin. Yet, there was no movent from Shen Chun’s room. After Ye Ling made breakfast and saw no one coming over, she told Shen Bin, who was eating, "I’ll go check."
"No need, she’s a grown woman, what could happen," Shen Bin replied, a bit displeased seeing his wife busy since morning, yet still having to call people, but he didn’t show it much as that person was his sister.
Ye Ling still rembered Shen Chun eating so little yesterday and not coming today, not knowing if she was making a fuss, so she ignored Shen Bin, went straight over anyway, figuring she’d find out sooner or later and curious about Shen Chun’s issue.
Outside, after calling with no response from Shen Chun, Ye Ling pushed open the door and went inside, only to see Shen Chun sleeping in bed. Ye Ling walked into the inner room and called again, waking Shen Chun up, who then sat up awkwardly.
"Sister-in-law, sorry, I overslept."
"Overslept is fine, as long as you’re okay. Go wash up and have breakfast," Ye Ling, relieved seeing nothing wrong, turned to leave.
But Shen Chun called out from behind, "Sister-in-law, do you have any tissues? I had my period last night."
Ye Ling paused, then nodded, "Wait a minute, I’ll go get so for you."
After bringing tissues over, Ye Ling returned to the dining table and sat down. Shen Bin had already finished eating and, brow furrowed, asked, "What happened?"
Knowing he wasn’t directing it at her, Ye Ling explained the situation without getting upset. Shen Bin flashed an embarrassed look, "I’m off to the company."
He got up and marched off.
Ye Ling smirked, but then widened her eyes and grinned upon seeing who ca in from outside, standing up abruptly, "What are you doing here?"
Zhao Guodong shrugged, standing there proudly, "Surprised?"
Circumscribing the table, Ye Ling walked over and instinctively grabbed his arm, "Of course I’m surprised. Tell , how did you get here without a call or a heads-up?"
From the door, Shen Bin, seeing his wife’s vibrant expression, felt a tinge of jealousy but was happy for her, watching them leave together. At this mont, Shen Chun arrived, seeing her sister-in-law holding another man’s hand while chatting, glanced at her brother’s departing figure, then lowered her head in thought.
Inside, Zhao Guodong pulled up a chair by the table, unabashed, "I haven’t had a decent al in three days on the train, got anything to eat? Get sothing, quick."
"I’ll whip up a salad," Ye Ling said, heading outside. As she went out, she ran into Shen Chun coming in, "Chun’er, go have so breakfast."
Shen Chun nodded shyly, sat across from Zhao Guodong, and sneakily observed him while picking up her chopsticks. Zhao Guodong glanced at her, causing Shen Chun to lower her head frantically, while Zhao Guodong frowned in annoyance.
"Ye Ling, who is this?" he asked directly without any courtesy, not even addressing Shen Chun opposite him.
While slicing cucumbers, Ye Ling laughed, "It’s Shen Bin’s sister, my sister-in-law."
Ye Ling didn’t find Zhao Guodong’s attitude inappropriate.
In the room, Zhao Guodong responded with an "Oh" before continuing, "I thought since I was taking the train, I’d co straight over. By the ti a letter arrived, I would’ve been here already, so I didn’t alert you, wanting to surprise you. You have no idea how envious Zhang Linong and the others were when I ca over this ti, especially Wang Ping, who protested to the higher-ups."
He concluded with a chuckle.
Outside, Ye Ling, hearing this, could imagine what Wang Ping’s reaction must have been and chuckled along.
In the room, Shen Chun made a sound of surprise, "Sister-in-law Hu is also nad Wang Ping; they have the sa na."
Upon learning she was Shen Bin’s sister, Zhao Guodong’s attitude improved slightly, nodding, "That’s quite a coincidence."
He didn’t say much more.
anwhile, Shen Chun curiously asked Zhao Guodong, "Are you my sister-in-law’s friend?"
"We grew up together," Zhao Guodong replied, as if it was a proud achievent, puffing out his chest.
Ye Ling ca in with the prepared salad, giving his shoulder a playful pat, "What brings you here? Were you sent down from above?"
"Yeah, there’s a stone material to inspect this ti. I’m here to learn and gather experience to implent back at my unit," Zhao Guodong took a big bite of his bun, "Your cooking is still the best. After I get married, let’s have our families live together so we can eat together every day."
"As if that’s going to happen," Ye Ling playfully rolled her eyes at him, "Even if I agree, your wife wouldn’t. You’re heading out to quarry the day after tomorrow, and when you co back, it’ll be winter. By then, I’ll make sothing nice for you; will that suffice?"
"It has to," Zhao Guodong didn’t hold back, "If you don’t cook for , given our relationship, you’d feel guilty just letting leave, wouldn’t you?"
"How’s everyone doing?" Ye Ling was used to his ramblings.
Sitting quietly and eating, Shen Chun listened to their conversation and watched their interaction, her eyes drifting with a slight sense of wonder.
