Wu ngyi remained silent, but Liu Wujiang turned around and looked at her sternly. Unable to pretend to be deaf and dumb with her husband staring at her, Wu ngyi reluctantly voiced her thoughts.
"I do want to quickly handle Zhiyuan’s matter, but look at the current Ye Family, the couple is divorced. It’s not that I look down on their family, they’re no longer in the army, and can’t support Zhiyuan, which I don’t mind. But with Bai Xue’s temperant, how many people like her now? If Zhiyuan really marries Ye Qian, wouldn’t she co to our house to make trouble? Don’t you think my concern is justified?" Seeing her husband’s face growing more unpleasant, Wu ngyi felt uncertain, "Besides, Zhiyuan only sees Ye Qian as a sister, without any other feelings. He’s been to college and stayed in the capital, all advocating for free love. If we arrange a marriage like this for him, would he agree? "You think like this now, so what did you say in the army? Don’t think I don’t know, you long ago spread word that Ye Qian is your chosen daughter-in-law, so no one dared to have thoughts about her, delaying these years. Everyone in the army knows, yet now you’re giving these reasons, why didn’t you think like this back then?" Liu Wujiang, troubled by family issues, was increasingly irritable, "I’m telling you, either handle this matter quickly, or I’ll have soone else take care of it. I’ll speak to Zhiyuan about it."
Liu Wujiang wasn’t concerned about reputation or such, but felt that Ye Qian’s family background wasn’t too high, so she wouldn’t bring many problems by marrying into his family. With things as they were, he was quite content and didn’t want to seek a daughter-in-law from a high-ranking family. Besides, his wife had been accustod to being dominant, and if two strong-willed people were together, the household would hardly be peaceful.
Wu ngyi, despite her dislike, remained silent as her husband issued such a command, "How could a child’s marriage be entrusted to outsiders? I’ll go talk to Bai Xue."
Though unwilling, she agreed.
The next day she went to see Bai Xue, who was naturally pleased to hear Wu ngyi was there to propose marriage, warmly inviting her in. Upon seeing the rented small house, Wu ngyi felt disheartened and criticized, "How have you lived in such a dark house all these years?"
Bai Xue, noticing, quickly replied, "There’s no way around it, but it will be fine this fall. The house above has been allocated too; once decorated, we can move in."
Hearing this, Wu ngyi felt a bit more comfortable, and sighed, "We’ve known each other for so many years, and I’ve watched Ye Qian grow up. I’m quite satisfied with this child. I see your daughter, Ye Ling, is married, too. When do you plan to take care of Ye Qian’s matter?"
"You just set the ti," Bai Xue replied happily, but didn’t want to be overshadowed by the Liu Family, "You don’t know, I’ve been worried. My niece is in the current batch for transfer, but there’s not much developnt in the hotown. I talked to the Li Family yesterday; they said they’d help ask, but I’m still anxious, unsure if it can be done."
That’s not anxiety, it’s just showing off.
Wu ngyi was irritated upon hearing it, knowing Bai Xue was using the Li Family to heighten her own status. Still, she had no retort, as her own family couldn’t compare to the Li Family. She could only smile politely and say, "If the Li Family agreed, then there shouldn’t be any problem."
Secretly hoping the Li Family wouldn’t help, so Bai Xue would be embarrassed.
Bai Xue smirked, raising her eyebrows, "Why am I telling you these worries? When do you plan to have the two kids marry?"
"Zhiyuan isn’t getting any younger. We plan to arrange it by the end of this year," Wu ngyi suggested hesitantly, "My thought is, both of them being in the army can’t take care of our ho. So after marrying, can Ye Qian stay ho, and not go back to the army?"
Bai Xue felt a chill at heart, silently cursing the Liu Family for underestimating them, but outwardly hesitated, "I understand how you feel, but this is a lifelong matter. Ye Qian is used to being free. Suddenly leaving the company might upset her. Marriage is a good thing, but if it affects her mood and consequently their relationship, it wouldn’t be good, don’t you think?"
Her husband had said the sa thing, and Bai Xue would obviously not back down or compromise. Wu ngyi, with eyes that seed to want to devour soone, replied coldly, "If Ye Qian can handle both without feeling burdened, then she can continue working."
Not wanting to stay longer, she stood up, "Let’s leave it at this. I’ll notify you once we set the date."
She then taunted, "Where’s Old Ye? Since you two are divorced, do I need to inform him separately? Or will you tell him yourself?"
Bai Xue, thinking of her daughter’s matter and not wanting to completely offend Wu ngyi, forced a smile, "Please trouble yourself to make another trip."
She wasn’t bothered by the exertion.
Wu ngyi initially thought Bai Xue would reluctantly take on the task herself due to her pride, but was surprised Bai Xue passed it back to her directly. It was unexpected how much her temperant had changed in just a few years.
Wu ngyi nodded and then left.
After seeing the guest off, Bai Xue angrily vented before tidying up and heading to the company to find her daughter, telling her about the Liu Family’s proposal. Ye Qian responded indifferently, not saying much, and let her mother leave. Once her mother left, she asked for leave at work and went to find Liu Zhiyuan.
Liu Zhiyuan was quite surprised to see Ye Qian, "The last ti I saw you was at Ye Ling’s wedding. We haven’t talked much these years. Are you here for sothing?"
Ye Qian nodded. Since the office was empty except for him, she spoke frankly, "Your family proposed marriage to mine. I want to know how Brother Zhiyuan feels about . If you don’t like and only see as a sister, then let’s call off this engagent."
Frustration drove her to blurt it out, and Liu Zhiyuan needed a mont to grasp what she ant. He then put away his relaxed expression, looking seriously at Ye Qian, "What’s your preference then?"
In truth, Liu Zhiyuan indeed saw Ye Qian as a sister, or rather, he had never had any thoughts about the girls in the compound, except for Du Yeling, which he only realized on the day of Ye Ling’s wedding.
