Bai Xue was taken aback, clearly not anticipating such a matter, but she had already spoken, and now her eldest daughter was pressuring her, how could she simply back down?
Song i, who was beside her, felt uncomfortable after hearing Ye Ling’s words. In any case, hearing soone speak about one’s daughter like that would make any mother want to tear the person apart. Song i regretted her earlier comnt, which wasn’t thoroughly thought out and said only because Ye Ling seed so smug at the ti.
"No matter what, quarreling is wrong." Bai Xue evasively bypassed the topic, "It’s getting late, and since you’re a few months older than Song i, you should act like an elder sister, how can you always bicker with your sister? Just hurry up and apologize so we can go ho. All these troubles have been worrying ; if I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have left you in the countryside for your grandma to spoil you like this."
"Mom," Ye Ling shouted as she interrupted, "my grandma is dead, do you understand what dead ans? You’re constantly cursing her even though she’s gone, don’t you feel shaless? What was my grandma’s fault? Back then, you said you were pregnant and couldn’t conveniently take care of , so you left with my grandma when I was just one-year-old. How could you be so heartless? You were supposed to be a good wife and daughter-in-law, but how could you selfishly leave your child and mother-in-law behind to go off with your husband? Look at other won who follow their husbands without leaving their children behind and still manage the household while looking for work. But you, mom, you don’t even work, just stay at ho with Ye Qian, always thinking you contribute so much to this family. And now, even after grandma’s death, you’re blaming her. Don’t you have any gratitude for her raising all this ti?
You can curse anything about Ye Ling, but grandma is her weakness. Having lived again, she wished she could let grandma live longer this ti, but couldn’t hold onto that wish, "It’s all because of you. If you hadn’t forced grandma to stop from studying, grandma wouldn’t have died from anger. It’s all your fault."
"Sister!" The sharp voice interrupted Ye Ling from continuing her curses.
Ye Qian staggered over, kneeling before Bai Xue, "Mom, please stop scolding sister, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t gotten sick, none of this would have happened. Mom, if you must bla soone, bla ."
Ye Qian’s face was ghastly pale, clearly frightened.
She was genuinely terrified.
She didn’t know what might happen if she ca out even a mont later—rumors about the mother driving the grandma to her death could spread, affecting not only the mother but also impacting the father’s work, and their whole family could be drowned in disgraceful gossip. Thinking further, if her father couldn’t get promoted and had to retire, would they be forced back to the countryside with this scandal? And if there was this trouble, no one would help soone who was said to have angered his own mother to death, wouldn’t their family have to move back to the countryside?
Ye Qian shivered deeply, afraid to continue thinking.
Though she didn’t fully understand what happened, she knew that Ye Ling was soone who wouldn’t provoke unless provoked. So, it must have been sothing done by their mother again.
With these thoughts, Ye Qian’s grip on her mother’s pants tightened, "Mom, I beg you, please stop, our family is already in such chaos, do you really want Dad to never hold his head high in front of others again?"
Bai Xue felt a chill throughout her body, her younger daughter’s tears made her at a loss, while her eldest daughter’s words pushed her into an abyss, making her finally clear-headed for the first ti in a while, realizing the foolish things she had done recently, not believing it was her who did them.
How did she forget the facade she’s been trying to maintain and the secret indulgences she enjoyed, blinded by it all, targeting her elder daughter at every turn? Though she was already fearful upon seeing the mother-in-law’s death, scared her husband might resent her, she should have quietly reconciled herself but only made things worse.
Nearby, originally watching events unfold, Song i and Jiang Yan shivered when they caught Ye Qian’s glance, definitely not the warm eyes of Ye Qian they usually knew, but the eyes of a venomous snake.
"Ye Qian, we... we’ll leave now." Song i instinctively wanted to evade.
Without daring to et Ye Qian’s gaze again, Song i pulled Jiang Yan away, rushing off quickly, leaving only the Ye Family mother and daughters in the original place.
"Mom, are you really trying to force to death? If my death makes everything better, then let die." Ye Qian’s voice was calm, but Bai Xue was scared by it.
She crouched down, tightly hugging her daughter in her arms, "Qianqian, Mom was wrong, Mom promises you that she won’t act like this again. This ti, Mom ans it."
"Mom, I beg of you, please stop causing trouble." Ye Qian cried out loud as well.
Ye Ling silently turned away towards her ho, looking up at the sky, calmly realizing she shouldn’t have said the grandma-forcing comnt. That could also put her father in an unfavorable position at his company. But when hearing her mother once again blaming grandma, Ye Ling truly felt a murderous impulse.
Upon returning ho, Ye He Ping was sitting in the living room reading a book, "Where are your mom and sister?"
Clearly unaware of the happenings outside.
Ye Ling remained silent, changed her shoes, and went straight into the East Room. She didn’t believe Ye Qian pleaded for her sake but out of fear of losing her good days ahead.
Soon after, hearing the door at ho open again, Ye Ling guessed they had returned, followed by the opening of the room’s door as Ye Qian, with reddened eyes, ca in. She didn’t call Ye Ling sister sweetly as she usually did but directly fell onto her own bed. Ye Ling, seeing her abandon the pretense, curled her lips in mockery.
If Ye Qian were really smart, she wouldn’t bother her anymore from now on.
In the living room, Bai Xue sat beside her husband with a poor complexion, Ye He Ping looked up at her, thinking about the silence when the elder daughter returned and the unspeaking younger daughter, his face also turned grim, "Did you two argue again?"
"He Ping, I’ve thought it over, from the New Year until now, I’ve done many foolish things, because I didn’t want Ye Ling to continue her studies, I caused mom to die from anger, it’s all my fault. I know you have always resented inside but never voiced it out, and I, too, wasn’t grateful, letting our family’s matters beco your burden. He Ping, I wronged mom and I wronged you too." Bai Xue covered her face, crying softly.
Ye He Ping froze for a mont, didn’t speak, but sighed heavily, took out a cigarette, and smoked deeply. Regarding the mother’s death, Ye He Ping couldn’t forgive his wife, yet what he couldn’t forgive even more was himself. (To be continued.
