KALIA
"What!?"
That was the exact word that flew out of Darren’s mouth the minute I told him the reason why I had co down here to see him.
He looked shocked, stunned, surprised, confused and utterly speechless at the sa ti. His eyes were fixed on but he wasn’t saying anything. It felt like his whole body had frozen under one breath.
He leaned back into his chair and pinched the bridge of his pointed nose before looking at again.
"I’ll pretend like I didn’t hear that because I obviously didn’t." He said after the long silence.
"If that’s all you drove down here to say then please, leave." He gestured at the entrance behind . "Go ho, Kalia and don’t ever approach with this nonsense again."
"I will not leave until you listen to and give a chance to explain—"
"There’s nothing to explain or listen to." He cut short. "Don’t embarrass yourself any further by doing this."
"Do you think I care?" I asked, wide-eyed, my insides trembling even though I looked composed on the outside. "I ca here with a reason and I won’t leave until my demands are t."
"This is not happening." He muttered to himself and sucked in a deep breath before staring at , again. "You’re joking right, Kalia? You don’t really an any of this bullshit do you?"
"Do you think that I would leave my house and go through the stress of finding you all the way out here if I wanted to make a joke about sothing as serious as this?" I asked with a side glance.
"What you’re asking for is preposterous, Kalia." He muttered. "You were my brother’s fiance until two days ago. You were supposed to be married to him."
"You were going to be my sister in-law in a matter of weeks and do you know what’s worse?" He corked a brow at but I didn’t speak. I let him continue instead.
"What’s worse Is that you called off the marriage all by yourself so I can’t put my family’s na in jeopardy just to get married to you for whatever reason at all."
"Shouldn’t this be a taboo or sothing if it happens? You getting married to your ex-fiance’s stepbrother barely three days after a breakup?"
"And yet your half brother was busy cheating on with my stepsister weeks before our marriage." I said and I saw the look of confusion in his eyes.
"Isn’t their relationship also considered a taboo or does it only apply to ? Didn’t they ruin just to be with each other? So why should ours be any different."
I snorted a short, incredulous laugh. "Everybody keeps blaming for calling off the marriage. They keep calling nas and accusing for wanting to destroy both families but none of them have even stopped to ask why?"
"Why would this girl who always does what she’s told, who sacrificed everything to be with this man that she fell in love with just call of her marriage abruptly? What does she stand to gain by doing so?"
I looked away when I felt my heart burning inside again.
"Why would she take such risk and do sothing like that when she knows that she has no one by her side and could be easily destroyed by the said family in question?"
"Listen..." I trailed off when I had gotten his full attention. "It’ll only be for a short while. Preferably for a few months and then we can get a divorce and go our separate ways."
"I’m not asking you to get married to permanently. I just wish to accomplish sothing very important and I can only do that if I’m married to you."
"I didn’t know that you went through all of that and I’m sorry if what I’m about to say next might co out as rude or anything but I am simply not interested." He said with an air of finality.
"You haven’t even heard out yet."
He shook his head negatively. "I don’t have to neither do I want to." He replied taking a sip of his drink."
"I don’t want to be involved in any kind of shady family feud that would seemingly put in the middle. One that will not benefit in any way. What do I even stand to gain if I decide to help you?"
He asked but I am tight lipped. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything but honestly, I have nothing to offer.
"Your silence is enough answer to that question." He remarked. "I understand what you’re trying to do Kalia and sadly, I’m not your guy."
"What were you even thinking coming out here to request this from ?" He asked out of the blue, shocking .
"Were you thinking that I’m so crazy, sick psycho, jerk who would jump at the slightest opportunity to hurt his stepbrother in a blink of an eye?"
"I may not have a decent relationship with my father’s other family but I’m not one to start a fight Kalia." He lectured .
"I don’t go around looking for one either. Callum and I may hate each other, we may be on each other’s throats all the ti but that doesn’t an that I would jump at an opportunity to hurt him when he hasn’t made any plans on doing the sa to ."
"Is that what you think? That he wouldn’t hurt you himself if given the chance to?" I asked and I noticed the slight hesitation in his movents.
"Even if he does, let him." He said to . "It’s my fight and I will handle it when the ti cos."
"And for goodness sake, we don’t even know each other other than the fact that you were supposed to be his bride."
"Like it or not, you were once his fiance. He was supposed to be your husband. What did you think people are going to say about this?" He lets out a deep exasperated breath.
"I’m the Alpha’s heir and I’m next in line to rule our pack. Did you even think this through?"
"Did you even stop to consider if this would be beneficial to or not? What impact it would have on and my life?" He ranted on while I just remained quiet.
I had already started to feel the regret slowly building in. He was making feel guilty with every word he uttered and I didn’t like it. I didn’t like feeling this way at all.
He creased his forehead with his palm. "Just...just go ho Kalia. I understand that you’re hurt and probably grieving right now that’s why I won’t hold any of this against you."
"I have sisters too and so I know how difficult this must have been for you which is why I won’t say anything to anyone but please, don’t ever approach regarding this bullshit ever again." He warned sternly with an air of finality.
