I didn’t say anything, just looked at Azure Vaughn.
Her small face, no bigger than a palm, had grown thinner, and her eyes were not as bright and clear as when we first t. Her shoulders slightly hunched, her white cashre coat couldn’t hide her frail fra.
Before I ca into the café, I carefully applied a bright red lipstick. I’ve been in a good mood these days and sleeping well, so I looked vibrant and full of spirit.
Sohow, it seed as if Azure and I had switched roles: she had beco the humble woman wasting away for love, while I was the observer, heart untouched, and therefore unhurt.
"Azure, why did you tell Henry Preston that I was the one who asked my mother-in-law to find you?" After a long pause, I finally spoke.
"Miss Hathaway..." Azure was startled, a guilty look flashed in her eyes as she avoided my gaze.
I knew it; beneath her pitiful appearance, she hid countless little sches.
At first, Henry had been so sure that it was I who complained to my mother-in-law, and it must have been Azure who revealed it.
My mother-in-law would never call Henry and explain after eting Azure. Her purpose was for Azure to retreat quietly, not to stir up trouble.
"After you shifted the bla onto , you disappeared and played the suicidal card to maximize the effect of the bla, right? You acted like you couldn’t go on because of , ensuring Henry would despise and hate even more." I sighed, "But you’re still a bit naive. Henry likes you, sure, but he’s not brainless. Asking his mom about this would reveal everything."
"You didn’t think he’d side with you against his mom and refuse to communicate, did you?"
My words made Azure’s face flush alternately red and white; I must have hit the nail on the head.
I complain, my mother-in-law visits her, she plays suicidal—going in circles, my mother-in-law and I are the villains. If Henry truly loved her, he’d certainly ignore and my mother-in-law for a while.
Unfortunately, she was really foolish.
Azure bit her lip until it almost bled, and there was a hint of jealousy and anger in her eyes. She didn’t seem willing to entangle with on this but was fixated on one point, "Miss Hathaway, these were out of necessity. If you divorced, all these things would calm down."
"Silas told that Henry married you for benefits, he never loved you. That’s torture in marriage, isn’t it?"
She called Silas Lockwood by his first na as if they were close; it seed she was already well acquainted with Henry’s best friends.
This kind of pure lotus, unstained by the muddy waters around Silas and his playboy friends, was a unique existence. Not to ntion, her being noticed by Henry proved her charm.
In a previous life, Ivan Underwood also fell for Azure under such emotions.
"That’s right, I did file for divorce," I t Azure’s gaze, calm and cold, "But I withdrew the lawsuit."
"Why?!" Azure stood up suddenly.
"You should ask your good friend Joy Lawson," I offered a slight sarcastic smile.
Without hesitation, Azure dialed Joy’s number, and I leisurely listened.
When the call connected, she asked, "Joy, what did you tell Miss Hathaway?"
"Just... just that about Henry’s legal wife."
Azure glanced at while explaining.
Ah, the legal wife, a loveless marriage tool.
I vaguely heard Joy shouting "old woman" through the phone.
As Azure listened, her expression turned even darker.
Finally, she couldn’t help but scold Joy, "What do you know?! You’ve ruined ! If it weren’t for you, things wouldn’t have gotten this complicated!"
After she hung up the phone, I elegantly took a sip of coffee and asked, "Did you figure out why?"
Azure looked ashen, "I apologize on her behalf, Miss Hathaway, but you don’t need to withdraw the lawsuit because of soone irrelevant; it’s about your lifelong happiness. You’ve already wasted so many years on a man who doesn’t love you, why continue?"
"Do you think filing a lawsuit would smoothly lead to a divorce?" I couldn’t help but feel Azure retained an almost stupid simplicity in so things.
"Then why?" she asked, puzzled.
"You’re a high achiever, how could you ask such a silly question?" I replied with so disdain, "Have you not thought about why I filed for divorce? It’s because Henry wouldn’t agree to divorce !"
Azure’s body shuddered, but she quickly found a reasonable explanation, "Yes, I know he has a lot of assets, the division must be complicated."
I was montarily speechless. Did she think that Henry refused to divorce because of asset division?
In a previous life, he had also filed for divorce but was delayed and rejected by various ans. Later, he was willing to give so many shares just to get to sign the divorce agreent.
Azure hadn’t witnessed Henry’s madness for her in a previous life, so she naturally didn’t understand.
"Think whatever you want. Right now your family disagrees, my in-laws disagree, whatever you and Henry want to do, do it. But I can tell you clearly, after withdrawing the lawsuit, I can’t file for divorce again for half a year. You’d better think of a way to get Henry to agree to a divorce by settlent." I didn’t want to say more and stood up to settle the bill and leave.
After getting back in the car, I watched Azure still in the café in a daze. After so thought, I decided to call Ivan Underwood.
"Dr. Underwood, Azure is at the ’Serendipity’ café. Could you perhaps co and take her ho?" I asked.
The other end remained silent for three seconds before saying, "What’s that got to do with ?"
Three question marks popped into my head. Isn’t this his chance to make a move as a supporting role?
If not to give him and Azure a chance to be alone, I’d rather call Laura Lawson.
Last ti, Ivan had confided in that he indeed liked soone, but believed she was unsuitable for pursuit; wasn’t he talking about Azure?
"Ivan Underwood, I’m saying Azure is alone at the café, she’s been grounded by her parents recently, and sohow got out. She’s not in a good mood; are you sure you don’t want to keep her company?" I carefully explained.
"Call when you’re in a bad mood, I’m hanging up," Ivan coldly replied and hung up.
Unbelievable, does he even understand won?
No wonder he’s the second male lead, serves him right!
If he doesn’t want the opportunity, I won’t ddle more and just drive ho.
I just hope nothing unexpected happens in the coming days, so I can peacefully enjoy the New Year, then go abroad to build my career and return as a successful woman.
Maybe the heavens heard my voice because everything went smoothly and peacefully until New Year’s Eve when Henry showed up at my doorstep.
Every past New Year’s Eve, it was I who had to remind him to go with to City C to spend the holiday with his parents and then return the next day to have dinner with mine.
This year, I wasn’t planning on going, yet here he was, uninvited.
"What are you doing here?" I walked over and asked.
"My parents asked us to co back for New Year’s Eve dinner." Henry’s eyes and nose were slightly red from the cold, adding a touch of vulnerability to his usually imposing and handso face.
