Because of his incident, I got angry.

At this mont, Cheng Lie felt a warmth spreading through his heart.

A long, long ti ago, during the lonely, dark days he spent with the Cheng Family, he had never dared to hope that soone would treasure him like this.

How could he not be moved by the kind of care Yun Shifei showed him?

And because of that, at this mont, Cheng Lie held Yun Shifei’s hand even tighter.

Feeling the heat in his palm, Yun Shifei snapped back to reality and wasn’t as angry anymore.

Forget it. Getting angry at this kind of pathetic life really wasn’t worth it.

"Xiao Lie, are you leaving already? So soon? Why not stay a little longer?" Xia Yuezhen stepped forward with a fake smile.

But in her heart, her hatred for Cheng Lie only grew stronger.

If it weren’t for him, ng Jie wouldn’t have hit her.

In all their years of marriage, although ng Jie had never treated her kindly, he had only hit her twice.

This second ti, however, was unforgettable, so much so that she decided to channel that suffering into further hatred for Cheng Lie.

Yun Shifei couldn’t help but glance at Cheng Lie.

She could see through Xia Yuzhen’s pretense. How could Cheng Lie not see it as well?

But his expression was calm, showing no sign of fluctuation.

After a long while, he finally said, "Aunt, what happened to your face? Your left cheek, it looks swollen."

Startled by his words, Xia Yuezhen instinctively touched her cheek.

Impossible! She had applied such thick makeup; how could Cheng Lie have noticed?

But in Cheng Lie’s pitch-black eyes was a sureness she couldn’t avoid.

"Aunt, upon closer inspection, it looks like a handprint."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Xia Yuezhen hurriedly said, "You must be mistaken. My face is perfectly fine. How could there possibly be a handprint?"

"Oh, really? Then I guess I must have been mistaken." Cheng Lie curved his lips into a smile, looking as innocent and harmless as could be.

Yun Shifei watched the smiling Cheng Lie, knowing full well that his smile carried an aura of danger.

It was just like in South City back then. He seed innocuous at first, but when the ti ca, he had single-handedly brought down the Cheng Family.

In a way, Cheng Lie’s heart was sowhat twisted. Having spent so much ti with him, Yun Shifei roughly understood this.

But she knew the reasons behind it, so she wasn’t afraid of him.

Because of what Cheng Lie said, even though he claid he was mistaken, ng Xun and ng Huan were now thoroughly examining Xia Yuezhen’s face.

"No, there really does seem to be a handprint on your face."

Xia Yuezhen was so furious she could kill!

She imdiately raised her hand to cover her face. "You’re seeing things. You’re definitely seeing things. This isn’t a handprint; it’s just that I applied thicker powder today."

But ng Huan, being a stickler for details, had already started speculating.

"No wonder. When I saw you this morning, your makeup wasn’t like this. Look at your makeup now—it’s indeed several layers thicker than usual."

Hearing ng Huan’s remark, Xia Yuezhen was on the verge of tears.

As the person in question, she had already denied it. Why couldn’t they just stop guessing and pressuring her to admit it?

"Ah, this morning you went upstairs with Second Brother. Did you two have an argunt? Did Second Brother slap you?"

The sharp-minded ng Huan had already pieced together the events.

Hearing ng Huan’s words, Xia Yuezhen shook her head in denial. "No, it’s not true."

"Sister-in-law, you can’t keep covering for my brother like this. I know my brother better than anyone; he really does have a violent streak."

At this mont, ng Xun spoke in a serious tone, "Call Second Brother back."

The butler, upon hearing this, turned to make the call.

Xia Yuzhen was terrified. Calling ng Jie back would be a death sentence for her.

ng Jie was already angry enough. If ng Xun called him back to reprimand him, who knew if ng Jie might beat her to death tonight?

She wanted to stop them, but a single glare from ng Xun rendered her motionless.

As the scene descended into chaos, Cheng Lie, who had been quietly observing, finally spoke: "Uncle, Aunt, Auntie, Feifei and I will take our leave now."

"Alright, you can go," ng Xun nodded at Cheng Lie.

Yun Shifei glanced at the almost-tearful Xia Yuezhen and then at Cheng Lie, who, having set the stage, was now subtly retreating. She couldn’t help but think: Ha, she had wanted to help him teach Xia Yuezhen a harsh lesson, but in truth, she didn’t even need to step in.

Cheng Lie was slowly dismantling her piece by piece.

Yun Shifei understood that prolonged suffering was far more agonizing than a short burst of pain.

Giving soone a quick end versus subjecting them to slow tornt—there was a world of difference between the two.

As for what would happen to Xia Yuezhen afterward, Yun Shifei could already guess.

Deep down, Yun Shifei felt a tinge of pity for Xia Yuezhen.

Of all people to provoke, she just had to provoke Cheng Lie. She truly had no idea what kind of person Cheng Lie really was.

Leaving the ng Family, Yun Shifei grinned at Cheng Lie and was the first to speak: "You’re so impressive."

"Is that all it takes to impress you?" Cheng Lie chuckled.

He had thought she might have sothing more profound to say.

Yun Shifei nodded. "She’s probably already regretting what she did to you."

Hearing Yun Shifei’s words, Cheng Lie’s smile deepened. However, he agreed with her. "That’s the fate of anyone who crosses ."

He didn’t mind playing along longer, letting her experience that slow descent from hope to utter despair—a prolonged and suffocating process.

Yun Shifei looked at the man’s cold but breathtakingly handso face.

Beneath the sunlight, his fair skin was tinged with a golden hue, and even his pitch-black eyes reflected a golden shimr.

He looked like an angel sent down from the heavens, embodying all that was beautiful.

But Yun Shifei knew he was a man of contradictions.

He had the angelic side, but equally, he had the demonic side.

After a long pause, she smiled and said, "I hope I never offend you."

Just imagining the consequences of offending him made her certain she wouldn’t survive it.

Cheng Lie reached out and pinched Yun Shifei’s cheek, expressing displeasure with her comnt.

His expectations of Yun Shifei were simple—so long as she still loved him, no matter what she did, he would forgive her.

At this mont, Xia Yuezhen, with tears in her eyes, finally saw ng Jie return.

The mont ng Jie stepped through the door, he was reprimanded by ng Xun, with Elder ng also chiming in.

To them, no matter what had happened, dostic violence was unacceptable.

Hitting one’s wife was a serious matter.

What’s more, their impression of Xia Yuezhen wasn’t all that bad.

ng Jie listened to their scolding with a frosty expression while Xia Yuzhen anxiously tried to defend him.

"It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have provoked him."

"It’s not your fault. Even if you made him angry, he shouldn’t have hit you," ng Huan said angrily.

She put herself in Xia Yuezhen’s position and found it suffocating.
