"Want so cake?" Cheng Lie’s voice carried a softness he himself didn’t realize.
"I do." Yun Shifei replied.
She wasn’t in a good mood at all right now. She just wanted sothing sweet to make herself feel a little better.
Hearing Yun Shifei’s reply, Cheng Lie said, "Alright, I’ll buy so later and bring them ho for you."
Cheng Lie was about to hang up the phone when he heard Yun Shifei’s voice again. "Are you done with work now?"
Cheng Lie gave a soft "Mhm."
"Then co ho quickly. The power’s out, and I’m really scared alone at ho."
On the other end, the girl’s voice sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
Cheng Lie’s chest tightened instantly, and he said, "Wait for . I’ll be back right away."
He thought back to a long ti ago when Yun Tiancheng was on a business trip, leaving the massive villa with only Yun Shifei living in it.
At night, she didn’t dare to sleep, so she called him and talked to him until her fear lessened and she fell asleep.
She’s always been terrified of being alone in the solitude of the night.
Cheng Lie understood her fear all too well, so on his way back, he kept talking to Yun Shifei, soothing her emotions.
Gradually, Yun Shifei began to feel better.
Who would have expected the power would suddenly go out at a ti like this?
She was alone at ho, and staying in the darkness for too long made the fears in her heart start to magnify endlessly.
At this mont, Yun Shifei’s fears were running wild.
One mont, she imagined ghosts, and the next she thought about intruders.
Ugh, there was no helping it. Her paranoia always took things to extres.
Cheng Lie returned as quickly as he could.
The mont he stepped into the house, Cheng Lie headed straight for Yun Shifei’s room.
Perhaps because his eyes had been hurt recently, he was now better adapted to the dark environnt.
In the room, he saw the girl curled up in a ball, clutching a teddy bear to her chest.
That faint shadow, delicate and fragile, tugged at his heart.
"Feifei." Cheng Lie called her na softly.
Yun Shifei heard Cheng Lie’s voice and looked up imdiately. Then, she threw herself into his arms.
She knew deep down that she shouldn’t be this scared, but she was. Her fear of the dark likely stemd from how she had died in her past life.
Before she died, endless darkness had swallowed her up, and that’s probably why she was so afraid now.
Cheng Lie held Yun Shifei tightly, feeling the girl’s trembling fear in his arms. He reached out to comfort her.
But as his hand brushed against Yun Shifei’s back, he noticed sothing unusual.
Yun Shifei... wasn’t wearing pajamas?
Wait—she was only wrapped in a towel!
Cheng Lie’s eyes adjusted to the dim light, and he could finally see clearly. The girl in his arms was clad in nothing but a bath towel.
She must have been bathing when the power went out and didn’t have ti to change, rushing out in just a towel.
His hand rested against her smooth, bare back—soft, delicate as silk—which made his heart skip a beat.
The girl in his embrace, however, seed completely oblivious to his heated reaction. She murmured softly, "Xiao Lie, when will the power co back?"
Being without electricity was truly terrifying.
"I’ve already contacted the property manager. It’ll be back soon, I think."
As soon as Cheng Lie finished speaking, the overhead lights flickered twice before coming back on.
Yun Shifei saw the room brighten and promptly pulled away from Cheng Lie’s embrace. She exclaid happily, "The power’s back—thank goodness!"
Then, she noticed Cheng Lie’s eyes narrow slightly, his gaze falling on her.
Yun Shifei lowered her head and looked at herself, realizing her outfit. She imdiately wrapped the blanket around her body.
"Cheng Lie, leave for a mont. I need to change into my pajamas."
Cheng Lie’s gaze darkened, but seeing Yun Shifei’s pitiful expression, he could only take a deep breath and turn to leave.
Once the bedroom door closed, Yun Shifei opened the blanket and looked at her bath towel.
At so point, it had loosened precariously, almost slipping off.
Did Cheng Lie see that earlier? Thinking about his expression, Yun Shifei almost wanted to strangle herself.
It was all because she had been too scared earlier. She completely forgot she was wearing a bath towel.
Such an outfit—it could fall apart with a single tug!
After Yun Shifei changed and ca out of her room, Cheng Lie noticed her new pajamas: light blue, adorned with a cute teddy bear pattern.
Despite being university students now, she still wore pajamas suited for middle schoolers.
Cheng Lie thought about how he had given her plenty of clothing but realized he’d never bought her pajamas.
Perhaps next ti, he would get her a few new sets to try on.
Yun Shifei had no idea Cheng Lie had already begun plotting in his mind.
She sat at the dining table, looking at the cakes Cheng Lie had bought.
The designs were undeniably adorable.
She took a few bites of each, and whatever she couldn’t finish, Cheng Lie polished off for her.
She thought they were truly frugal, eating everything clean with no waste.
Getting up to fetch so water, Yun Shifei caught Cheng Lie’s eyes glancing at her leg. He suddenly noticed a bruise on her calf.
On her pale skin, it was startlingly visible.
"How’d you hurt your leg?"
Yun Shifei typically wore shorts at ho. Yet, he hadn’t noticed this earlier—sothing about it looked fresh.
Yun Shifei followed his gaze to her leg and realized it herself.
"Oh, it happened when the power went out earlier. I bumped into sothing walking out of the bathroom."
Cheng Lie motioned for her to co closer so he could inspect it.
"You need to use an egg to help with the swelling and bruising."
Yun Shifei waved him off. "It’s not necessary for a spot like this."
If it were her face, sure, but this was just her leg. She felt it wasn’t worth the trouble—it would heal naturally over ti.
But Cheng Lie was adamant. He went to the kitchen to boil an egg, then carried Yun Shifei to the sofa, insisting she sit still.
Squatting in front of her, he gently rolled the warm egg over her bruise.
The heat brought a soothing comfort to the once-painful spot, dulling the ache.
His hands held her leg firmly but delicately, spreading warmth wherever they touched, leaving her skin tingling.
Yun Shifei’s heart felt full, overflowing with warmth.
This sensation of being treated so preciously brought her to the brink of tears.
In her past life, no one had ever been so kind to her.
This life, she had t Cheng Lie, and she realized—this life belonged to him and no one else.
Lost in her thoughts, Yun Shifei couldn’t help but look closely at Cheng Lie.
His complexion was still pale, though better than before; at least now his lips carried a faint blush rather than their previous pallor.
He lowered his head, long lashes casting delicate shadows against his cheeks.
As she watched him, Yun Shifei felt an itch inside her chest.
When Cheng Lie raised his head unexpectedly, she couldn’t resist leaning in and pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
Then, she saw his utterly dumbfounded expression.
