"He... he’s all alone, his parents aren’t around anymore."

Cheng Lie’s mother had passed away, and his father was in prison—a father who might as well not exist in Yun Shifei’s eyes, so she automatically ignored that part of his past.

She was still hesitating, wondering if she should muster up so courage and just tell Yun Tiancheng the person she was seeing was Cheng Lie.

Back then, Yun Tiancheng seed to feel sorry for Cheng Lie anyway.

Yet Yun Tiancheng said unexpectedly, "I don’t agree with this kind of mismatched romance, Shi Fei. Based on what you’ve told , this boy sounds just like Cheng Lie. I don’t know what he’s been through, but think about it: with circumstances like that, his ntal state is bound to be troubled. Shi Fei, could it be that because Cheng Lie left suddenly, you ran into soone similar who started pursuing you and mistakenly thought you were in love with him?"

Yun Shifei was stunned. Yun Tiancheng didn’t know at all that the person she liked had always been Cheng Lie.

She also couldn’t understand why Yun Tiancheng was speaking of Cheng Lie like this.

"Dad, do you really think Cheng Lie is a bad person?" Having reached this point, Yun Shifei decided to be bold.

Luckily, Yun Tiancheng hadn’t thought Yun Shifei had run into Cheng Lie in Beijing. He said, "How should I put it? It’s not that he’s bad. As a neighbor’s kid, I absolutely feel sorry for him and sympathize with his hardships. But sympathy is one thing, and I won’t object to you being friends with him. However, when it cos to dating, I’m firmly against it!"

Yun Tiancheng’s tone started becoming more severe, because even though he didn’t realize Yun Shifei’s boyfriend was Cheng Lie, he couldn’t accept soone similar to him either.

"Growing up in a family like that, his mind must be distorted. As a friend, there’s still a bit of distance, and he wouldn’t harm you. But if you’re dating him, that’s taking it a step further—closer than friendship, even closer than family. In the beginning, if he likes you, maybe he’ll treat you well. But later, when the love fades or if you try to leave him, he might do sothing crazy."

Yun Tiancheng described the consequences, painting a grim picture to snap Yun Shifei out of it, "Shi Fei, I spent so many years trying to find you and finally got you back. You’re still young, inexperienced, straightforward but naïve, and vulnerable to being bullied. I really don’t want you to suffer such heartache."

Listening to Yun Tiancheng’s lengthy speech and seeing his worried expression, Yun Shifei fell into silence.

She thought Yun Tiancheng actually made so valid points.

In the past, she’d seen plenty of similar stories in the news: girls ignoring their parents’ objections to marry boys far beneath them, only to end up victims of dostic abuse or worse, losing their lives.

But she knew, Cheng Lie wasn’t that kind of person.

In her past life, he ultimately beca a powerhouse, leading technological revolutions and benefiting humanity—a man with ambition and ideals.

And now that she was interacting with him, he didn’t seem to be emotionally unstable. Rember when she got upset with him earlier? He gave her several gifts in apology, even cutting his hand in the process without ntioning it, quietly keeping it to himself.

How could such a boy be the cruel type?

If he were truly cruel, then wouldn’t he have threatened her with a knife during an argunt to keep her from leaving?

Yun Shifei felt her own reasoning made sense.

What he’d done earlier was just out of desperation. It wouldn’t be like that in the future for sure.

Thinking this, Yun Shifei decided she absolutely had to hide the truth for now.

So, when Yun Tiancheng looked at her, Yun Shifei let out a chuckle to lighten the mood.

"Dad, don’t worry about . Yes, my boyfriend didn’t go to college and his family conditions aren’t great, but he’s really capable! You know the Qin Family in Beijing, right?"

Yun Tiancheng grunted. How could he not know? He’d once collaborated with them, and it had caused quite a stir—word was he’d offended one of the Qin family’s young masters.

But fortunately, things had settled down since then.

"My boyfriend works in their company, and the person in charge thinks very highly of him." Yun Shifei pulled her pet cat close to cover up the guilt of lying.

Her precious cat, who was enjoying her strokes, nearly suffocated as she hugged it tightly.

It let out a howl, struggling to escape.

Yun Shifei wouldn’t let it go. If she were alone, she’d surely feel nervous. What if Yun Tiancheng found out she was lying?

Yun Tiancheng, half-believing and half-doubting, asked, "Who in the Qin family does he work for?"

In matters like this, he was genuinely afraid Yun Shifei might be lying. If the guy didn’t even have a proper job, it would worry him even more.

"I think he’s called Qin Chi Jin," Yun Shifei said.

Qin Chi Jin, the fourth child of the Qin family, young and promising.

Wait a second—wasn’t the company he’d recently collaborated with Qin Chi Jin’s?

Yun Tiancheng’s brows furrowed. He’d have to look into this.

However, he began to relax sowhat. If Qin Chi Jin valued this person, then he wouldn’t be an ordinary individual.

Still, having not t the guy personally, he couldn’t fully put his mind at ease.

"Where is he now?"

"Beijing."

"When can I et him?"

"Dad!" Yun Shifei called out, "We’ve only been dating for less than a month! We haven’t talked about marriage yet. Wouldn’t eting him so soon be a bit abrupt?"

People’s views nowadays are open. Dating doesn’t an you’re destined to spend your whole life with soone.

Yun Tiancheng sighed upon hearing this.

He picked up the cup of tea on the table and took a sip.

"Shi Fei, I’m just worried, afraid you might end up with soone bad."

His expression was tinged with sadness and frustration, as if he was realizing his powerlessness in his daughter’s romantic affairs.

Look at her—his Shi Fei had grown up, could live independently in a different city, and even had a boyfriend.

One thing after another, she was becoming like a little adult.

He wanted to et her boyfriend, but she wouldn’t let him.

Though he understood all of this was normal, he couldn’t help but feel a bit dejected inside.

Children grow up and ultimately leave their parents.

He hadn’t expected that day to co so soon.

Seeing Yun Tiancheng’s disappointnt made Yun Shifei feel pangs of sadness herself.

She knew Yun Tiancheng only wanted the best for her. But if she told him the truth, he’d definitely forbid her from being with Cheng Lie.

For now, she could only stall. She’d figure out a plan later.

Who knows, maybe she and Cheng Lie would break up eventually.

To Yun Shifei, even though she was with the formidable Cheng Lie now, she didn’t feel very secure.

She was scared he might leave at any mont.

Moreover, she was a pessimist about love and didn’t believe in eternal romance.

But why worry about all that? For now, if things were sweet, she’d savor the sweetness.

That night, after locking her bedroom door, Yun Shifei snuck a call to Cheng Lie.

"Cheng Lie, my dad found out I’m dating soone today."

"What did he say?" Cheng Lie paused his sketching, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
