Victor Morgan wasn’t the kind of man who would let her run away.

The man was inherently domineering, long accustod to masterminding every detail and keeping everything under his thumb. How could he possibly be as calm and carefree as he usually acted? When the people and things he cared about slipped from his grasp, it only triggered a more ferocious need for possession and control.

Just like this.

The mont Victor Morgan sensed Jessie Sterling’s intent to flee, he lowered his head and captured her slightly parted red lips in a kiss.

His rough tongue slid past her lips unimpeded, claiming Jessie Sterling’s territory. It tangled with her own, suckling and exploring until, in a matter of monts, it had planted its flag in every corner, flooding her with his dominant taste.

Jessie was kissed so thoroughly she could barely stand. Her hands, which were wrapped around Victor Morgan’s narrow waist, couldn’t help but clench, tightly gripping the fabric of his shirt.

When Jessie heard a BEEP next to her ear as the door unlocked, a sliver of clarity finally pierced through the fog in her mind, a mind that had been muddled by Victor Morgan’s kiss.

Realizing what might happen next, Jessie instinctively wanted to refuse.

The ball was about to begin. If she and Victor Morgan, the guests of honor, failed to show up, it would be far more than just embarrassing.

But before Jessie could get the words out, she suddenly felt a chill on her back.

Victor Morgan had pressed her entire body against the door.

The lights in the room were off, and the curtains were drawn tightly.

The sky outside hadn’t completely darkened yet, but the room was already dim.

The air was thick with a seductive ambiguity.

Things grew damp and heated in the corner by the entrance.

Jessie bit down on Victor Morgan’s shoulder, on the verge of tears.

Victor Morgan wasn’t in much better shape. After carrying Jessie to the bed, he imdiately turned and headed for the bathroom.

Two deep, crimson blotches colored Jessie’s cheeks. She lay disheveled amidst the covers.

Her eyes were glazed over, and the clear sound of the shower running reached her ears.

Victor Morgan did have so self-control. Naturally, he wouldn’t go all the way at a ti like this.

But now, Jessie felt even more tornted.

’It would have been better if he’d just finished...’

The mont the thought surfaced, Jessie froze on the bed. It was then that she faintly heard another sound mixed in with the running water from the nearby bathroom.

Jessie: "...!!!"

’Why is Victor Morgan taking a shower in my room?!’

’Doesn’t he have his own room?!’

She bit her lower lip in frustration, ntally tearing the man limb from limb.

Just as Jessie was fuming, the water in the bathroom shut off.

Victor Morgan walked out.

Jessie looked up at the sound, and both she and Victor Morgan, who was standing in the doorway, froze for a mont.

Jessie instantly slapped her hands over her eyes. "Why aren’t you wearing anything!" she demanded, her voice a mix of indignation and flirtatiousness.

Victor Morgan glanced down at the towel wrapped around his hips, then at Jessie, who was "covering" her eyes with her fingers spread wide open. He let out a silent laugh. "I didn’t bring a change of clothes over."

It was obvious that the suit he’d been wearing earlier was no longer in any condition to be worn to the ball.

Any imperfections would be completely exposed under the lights.

Jessie: "...Then why didn’t you go back to your own room!"

She was clearly displeased.

Victor Morgan chuckled. This ti, the sound rumbled deep in his chest, laced with an extra asure of amusent.

He strode over to Jessie, completely unconcerned about his bare upper body. Looking down at her, he asked, "You don’t know?"

His question baffled Jessie. ’What am I supposed to know?’

Looking at her innocent, clueless expression, Victor Morgan wasn’t sure whether to sigh or laugh. ’The old saying goes, "Discipline your son in the main hall, instruct your wife in the bedroom." I suppose this counts as bedroom instruction, doesn’t it?’

"How could I have left the room in the state I was in?" Victor Morgan whispered in Jessie’s ear. At the sa ti, he reached up and pulled her hands away from her eyes—hands that were doing a poor job of hiding anything. "What would I have done if I’d run into soone?"

By the ti he finished, Victor Morgan was practically nibbling on Jessie’s ear.

Her body, which still hadn’t fully cald down, was now incredibly sensitive. With Victor so close, Jessie couldn’t help but shiver.

"You—" Jessie started to snap at him to just talk normally instead of getting so close. ’My hearing is perfectly fine, you know!’

But a second later, Victor had already pulled back and sat on the edge of the bed. If you ignored his state of dress, his expression looked quite serious.

"Could I trouble you to get my clothes, darling?" Victor said.

Although they were staying in the sa building, they had separate rooms. After all, they had both been so exhausted the past few days that they couldn’t do much of anything at night. It was better to sleep separately and get so proper rest.

Jessie’s face instantly flushed crimson at the sound of his "darling." She snatched the key card from Victor Morgan’s hand and, without a word, leaped off the bed and dashed out of the room.

She looked for all the world like she was fleeing in a panic.

Victor, however, remained sitting calmly on the bed. His gaze followed Jessie, a deep, irrepressible smile in his eyes.

When the two of them appeared in the ballroom on ti, Victor had his arm around Jessie’s waist, calmly and effortlessly greeting the surrounding guests.

Jessie also wore a faint smile. A trace of a natural flush still lingered on her cheeks, more captivating than any makeup.

Beneath that placid expression, however, Jessie had already cursed Victor Morgan countless tis in her head.

’Who could have guessed what this distinguished-looking man before was doing to just monts ago?’

’Acting like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.’

The opening dance of the ball was, of course, reserved for the bride and groom. Victor, with his arm around Jessie, stood in the center of the dance floor. As the music began, he guided her to follow his lead.

Their movents were elegant and light, and the look in Victor’s eyes as he gazed down at Jessie was one of undeniable focus.

Soon, the other guests gradually joined them on the floor, and the ballroom filled with laughter and pleasant conversation.

However, contrary to what everyone might have imagined, while Victor was indeed looking at Jessie and whispering in her ear, his voice was laced with teasing and mockery—

"You were just cursing out in your head, weren’t you?"

Jessie started, her eyes flying wide as she looked up at Victor. In her shock, she missed a step, her crystal slipper stomping squarely down on his leather shoe.

Victor’s expression didn’t so much as flicker, but the hand on Jessie’s waist tightened.

"How did you know?"

’I was only thinking it, I didn’t say anything out loud.’

eting Jessie’s astonished gaze, Victor shook his head to himself. ’She wears every emotion on her sleeve. How could I possibly not notice?’

Victor didn’t answer her question. Instead, he asked with great interest, "So what exactly did you call ?"
