’No wonder her son wouldn’t give any of those other socialites the ti of day, yet he had slowly co to accept Eliza Sutton, whom he’d rejected so vehently at first.’

’It turned out her son was different from other n—he liked it a little rough.’

Seeing Eliza Sutton’s uneasy expression, Mrs. Lockwood said, "Don’t be afraid. I’m very open-minded. I won’t interfere too much in your business as a couple."

After a mont’s hesitation, Mrs. Lockwood added, "But you should still be mindful of the timing... At least wait until Shane’s back has healed a bit."

With that, she closed the door and left, moving so quickly that Eliza Sutton didn’t even have a chance to offer another word of explanation.

Eliza Sutton looked away from the door, only to find Shane Lockwood’s cold, dark gaze fixed on her. She imdiately explained, "It’s a misunderstanding. This is all a misunderstanding. I don’t have violent tendencies, and I’m not trying to do anything, really."

Shane Lockwood snorted. "It had better be. Of course, you wouldn’t have a chance anyway."

Eliza Sutton raised her eyebrows. ’I’d really like to point out that I’ve already had a taste of his so-called beauty,’ she thought.

But under Shane Lockwood’s cold, dark gaze, she decided to keep her mouth shut.

Eliza Sutton changed the subject, asking solicitously, "Are you hungry? I just made so rice porridge in the kitchenette. You should have a little."

Shane Lockwood was about to refuse, but then he rembered Eliza Sutton’s excellent cooking and gave a slight nod.

Eliza Sutton had made rice porridge and a side of pickled radish salad.

This was probably the humblest al Shane Lockwood had eaten in his entire life, yet for such simple ingredients, the taste was exquisite.

The natural flavor of the rice was brought out perfectly, fragrant and subtly sweet, pairing wonderfully with the sweet and sour taste of the pickled radish.

Only after helping Shane Lockwood eat did Eliza Sutton have her own al.

She hadn’t even finished eating when she heard Shane Lockwood call out to her, "Eliza Sutton!"

"Coming!" Eliza Sutton quickly put her bowl and chopsticks in the kitchen and hurried over. "Mr. Lockwood, what is it? Do you need to go to the bathroom? You don’t have to go to the trouble of getting out of bed. You can just turn onto your side and take care of it right here."

"In the bed?" Shane Lockwood snorted. "Are you going to help ?"

Shane Lockwood had only said it to needle her, but to his surprise, Eliza Sutton nodded. "Yes, I’ll help you. I’ve already prepared the, er, equipnt."

As she spoke, she produced an object from behind her back as if performing a magic trick.

The object in question had a proper na: a urinal.

A vein throbbed on Shane Lockwood’s temple. He gritted his teeth. "Throw it out. Or I’ll throw you out."

Eliza Sutton said, "There’s no need to be embarrassed. Everyone has biological needs."

"I’m giving you one last chance. Throw it out right now."

Seeing Shane Lockwood’s unwavering resolve, Eliza Sutton could only toss the object out regretfully.

She couldn’t resist adding, "Well, if you need anything, just let know."

"Eliza Sutton, can’t you just speak like a normal person?"

Eliza Sutton looked baffled. "How am I not speaking normally? Didn’t I just tell you to co to if you need help?"

"..." Shane Lockwood couldn’t be bothered to argue the point with her. "Help to the study," he said instead.

The hospital room Shane Lockwood occupied was a VIP suite, fully equipped with a kitchenette, a living area, and a study.

Eliza Sutton couldn’t help but frown. "You’re seriously injured. You need to stay in bed and rest. You shouldn’t be walking around, and you certainly shouldn’t be working."

Shane Lockwood was not pleased. "Eliza Sutton, since when do you have the right to interfere in my business? Do you think that just because I saved you, you’re now sohow special? If that’s the case, you’re sadly mistaken."

Eliza Sutton fell silent. "...Very well, Mr. Lockwood. I’ll help you up."

Eliza Sutton carefully helped Shane Lockwood up, settled him in the wheelchair, and pushed him to the study.

When they arrived at the study, Erik Irvine was already there.

The desk was already piled high with docunts that needed his approval. A laptop sat to one side, already connected to a video conference with other senior executives.

Shane Lockwood quickly slipped into work mode. He was elegant and dignified, his commanding presence on full display. Each word was delivered with force, winning over the many crafty old foxes on the call.

In that mont, even though he couldn’t use his legs, he was still the king everyone looked up to.

Eliza Sutton paced back and forth outside the study door, watching the minute hand on the clock circle again and again, her anxiety mounting with each turn.

The eting didn’t end until three in the morning.

The mont Eliza Sutton saw Shane Lockwood close his laptop, she forgot everything else and rushed into the study.

Shane Lockwood’s brow furrowed. "Eliza Sutton, where are your manners? Who gave you permission to just barge in here?"

Eliza Sutton ignored him.

Shane Lockwood said irritably, "Eliza Sutton, I’m speaking to you."

"I know you’re speaking to , but I think you should shut up!" Eliza Sutton was furious. "Don’t you realize the wound on your back has split open? The blood has soaked right through your shirt!"

Shane Lockwood was unconcerned. "It’s just a minor injury... HSSS!"

He sucked in a sharp breath, the pain making the veins on his temples stand out. He gritted his teeth and roared, "Eliza Sutton!"

Eliza Sutton put on an innocent face. "You said it was a minor injury. I just assud it didn’t hurt... right?"

Shane Lockwood stared at Eliza Sutton for a long mont before finally saying, "You heartless woman!"

Erik Irvine, who had been busy with Shane Lockwood the entire ti, was startled when he finally saw the state of his back. "Where’s the doctor? I’ll go get the doctor!"

"The doctor is already in the patient room," Eliza replied.

Erik Irvine expressed his thanks to Eliza Sutton and imdiately pushed Shane Lockwood back to the main room of the suite.

The doctor, who had been waiting, saw Shane Lockwood’s back and his brow furrowed deeply. It was only Shane Lockwood’s status that kept him from cursing aloud.

As the doctor treated the wound, he said, "President Lockwood, you’re seriously injured. You must take better care of yourself. Otherwise, you’re only making yourself suffer."

"I know. I’ll be careful."

After dressing the wound, the doctor gave Eliza Sutton a long list of instructions before finally leaving, seemingly reassured.

But Eliza Sutton couldn’t feel at ease.

Thinking about the poison in Shane Lockwood’s system that still hadn’t been purged, her heart was filled with anxiety.

They say that bad feelings are the ones that always co true.

And Eliza Sutton’s worries were about to be realized.

Five whole days had passed, and not only had Shane Lockwood’s back wound failed to heal, it had begun to fester.

Tornted by pain day and night, Shane Lockwood had lost so much weight he was a shadow of his forr self.

Mrs. Lockwood ca to visit every day, always with a smile on her face.

But as soon as she left the room, she would hide in the hallway and shed tears.

As a mother, she was deeply worried about Shane Lockwood, suffering an agony that no words could soothe.

Emtt Lockwood also visited many tis.

Worry was written all over his small face.

Emtt Lockwood took Eliza Sutton’s hand, looked up at her with his adorable little face, and asked, "Mommy, when is Daddy going to get better?"

"Soon."

"Really?"

"Really," Eliza Sutton said, stroking Emtt Lockwood’s small head.

She wasn’t lying to Emtt Lockwood. She had already taken action the mont she noticed Shane Lockwood’s back wound wasn’t healing properly.

Every night, once Shane Lockwood was asleep, she would use an acupuncture needle to put him into a deeper slumber, and then she would apply an ointnt she had mixed herself.

But Shane Lockwood’s body was simply too weak. Between the poison still in his system, the severity of his current injury, and the secrecy with which she had to operate, the results were coming along much more slowly than she’d like.
