Minnie’s heart ached for him. She wished she could bring Emtt Lockwood back and let him into the bedroom.

’BOO-HOO... Her poor young master was just heartbreaking.’

"Thank you for your hard work. Go get so rest."

Just then, a cool voice spoke up.

Minnie turned to see Eliza Sutton standing in the doorway.

Minnie wanted to ask Eliza why she hadn’t seen Emtt if she was still awake, but faced with that cold expression, she couldn’t bring herself to say a word.

It suddenly struck Minnie that the Mistress’s presence was no less imposing than the master’s.

Filled with a sense of awe, Minnie departed.

Eliza Sutton stood where Minnie had just been, silently gazing down the long corridor. Emtt had just walked down it, looking utterly dejected.

Late that night, the door to the child’s room opened.

Eliza Sutton stepped inside.

A wall sconce was on.

Its warm light spilled out, lending the room a soft glow.

Emtt Lockwood was sleeping soundly in his bed. His little mouth twitched, looking utterly adorable.

Eliza Sutton sat on the edge of Emtt’s bed, her eyes lowered to him.

’I shouldn’t have co here tonight.’

’I know, really. As cruel as Shane Lockwood’s words were last night, they were also a warning.’

’Emtt Lockwood is the only fourth-generation heir to the Lockwood family. His position beca even more precious—and perilous—especially after Doctor Shepherd determined that Shane had lost the ability to have more children.’

’If I get too close to Emtt, and sothing were to happen to him, the stepmother would never be able to escape bla.’

Just as Eliza Sutton was about to stand, Emtt murmured softly, "Mommy."

At that mont, it felt as if a hand had squeezed Eliza Sutton’s heart.

She sat for a long mont before taking a deep breath and leaving.

When Eliza Sutton returned to the bedroom, Shane Lockwood was already there.

His gaze swept over her. "You went to see Emtt?"

Eliza Sutton replied, "He’s already asleep."

The implication being that she couldn’t very well manipulate a sleeping child.

Shane Lockwood nodded.

Eliza had expected Shane Lockwood to say sothing more, like warning her to stay away from Emtt, but he said nothing.

Eliza Sutton was taken aback. ’CEO Lockwood’s domineering CEO complex isn’t acting up today,’ she thought. ’It’s so strange, I’m almost not used to it.’

Shane Lockwood wheeled himself into the bathroom. Seeing Eliza still standing there in a daze, he ordered coldly, "Co in. Help bathe."

"Oh."

「The next day.」

When Eliza Sutton opened her eyes, she was t with a handso face, far too close.

Shane Lockwood’s expression was sour. "Don’t sleep in my arms again," he warned.

Eliza Sutton obediently agreed, "Alright."

Suddenly, a knock ca at the door, followed by Emtt Lockwood’s voice.

"Mommy, are you up yet?"

Eliza Sutton instinctively glanced at Shane Lockwood and saw his brow furrow in displeasure.

’Got it.’

’I get it. Shane Lockwood’s getting annoyed.’

’I can’t bla him. If my son got this close to soone he’d just t—soone who might have ill intentions—I’d be annoyed too.’

"Mommy!"

"Daddy! Get up! The sun’s gonna burn your butt!"

Emtt Lockwood yelled at the top of his lungs from outside the door.

Eliza Sutton looked at Shane Lockwood. "Mr. Lockwood, would you mind getting the door?"

Just as Shane Lockwood was about to ask what she was doing, he saw Eliza Sutton push open the window. With a light leap, her slender figure vanished from the ledge.

Just then, Emtt Lockwood pushed the door open. He ca into the room and imdiately looked for Eliza Sutton, but he couldn’t find her.

"Daddy, where’s my mommy?"

"She went to work."

Emtt Lockwood looked as if he’d been struck by lightning, and his eyes instantly reddened. "You’re not my daddy! You’re The Skinner!"

Eliza Sutton drove herself to work.

On the way, she called Woody. "Any news?"

Woody sounded extrely apologetic. "Boss, I only found out that Theo wandered away from the Sutton Family ho three years ago because he was left unattended. He vanished without a trace."

"Left unattended..." Eliza Sutton repeated the two words, her eyes gradually turning bloodshot.

Three years ago, her Theo was only two years old.

Forget a family as wealthy as the Suttons; even an ordinary family would have at least one person dedicated to looking after him.

And yet, in a household as large as the Sutton Family’s, her Theo had managed to get lost because he was "unattended."

"What about Leo? He..."

"It’s just as the Sutton Family said. The baby wasn’t breathing when they took him back."

"He was perfectly fine when they took Leo from ."

He was breathing, moving, puckering his little mouth for milk. He would grip her finger tightly when she touched him, and he would stare up at her with his big, wide eyes.

Even if, back then, Leo couldn’t even see the person in front of him clearly.

"Boss, my condolences."

Sid Lane’s simple words of condolence shattered Eliza Sutton’s every defense. She lost control of the steering wheel. The car snaked for a long stretch before crashing violently into the greenbelt dian.

The driver behind her laid on the horn, screaming, "Do you even know how to drive? If you’re looking to die, go find a bridge to jump off! Don’t drag other people into it!"

"Yeah! You got lucky nothing serious happened! If there had been, you’d be a murderer!"

Eliza Sutton sat there amidst the accusations and waited for the police to arrive.

The police gave Eliza Sutton a stern lecture, but since she was lucky and hadn’t caused any injuries, they let her off with a warning.

Eliza Sutton tended to the cut on her forehead before picking up the phone that had fallen inside the car.

The screen was still lit; the call hadn’t ended.

"Hello?"

Hearing Eliza Sutton’s voice, Sid Lane let out a huge sigh of relief, nearly weeping with joy. "Thank God, I finally hear your voice. Boss, are you okay?"

Sid Lane’s voice beca cautious.

"I’m fine." Eliza Sutton’s gaze was ice-cold. "Go investigate everyone in the Sutton Family. I’m going to collect so interest."

Sid Lane imdiately agreed, then stamred a few more words of comfort before hanging up.

By the ti Eliza Sutton arrived at the Lockwood Design Departnt, she was already late.

Reina Miles was standing at the entrance to the departnt, hands on her hips. Seeing Eliza Sutton arrive, she imdiately shouted, "What ti do you call this? Do you think the company is your house, that you can co and go as you please?!"

"Soone with just a high school diploma and no professional dedication... I really don’t know how she got into the Lockwood Design Departnt. I’m afraid she didn’t sleep her way in, did she!"

Eliza Sutton lifted her dark eyes and stared at her, her expression blank. "If you think I slept my way in here, then you’re awfully brave to be screeching in my face."

Reina Miles choked, suddenly speechless. Her face flushed red. She pointed at Eliza Sutton, sputtering for a mont before finally spitting out, "You just wait! Sooner or later, I’ll have you thrown out of the Lockwood Design Departnt!"

After Reina Miles stord off, Crystal Harrison, who sat at the neighboring workstation, gave her a thumbs-up. "Eliza Sutton, you’ve got guts, talking to Reina Miles like that."

"Designer Miles is so magnanimous. I’m sure she won’t hold it against ."

Crystal Harrison looked at her with admiration, then lowered her voice to warn, "You’d better be careful. The design departnt’s competition is coming up, and I’m afraid Reina Miles will use it as an opportunity to give you a hard ti."
