"Hah, let him wait. What’s a moocher like him going to accomplish anyway?" After spitting out her contempt for Roy Jennings, Eva Monroe finally realized she was still holding a man’s large hand.
Eva Monroe quickly let go. "Sir, thank you for your help just now. Next ti we et, I’ll treat you to a al."
Leaving him with those words, Eva Monroe turned to leave.
But she had barely turned when Walter Ellington grabbed her wrist.
"Wait."
Wary, Eva Monroe faced Walter Ellington. "Sir, is there sothing else?"
"Yes. You can’t go. You can’t leave my side tonight."
"Sir, we’re complete strangers. Don’t you think that’s an unreasonable request?" Eva Monroe watched Walter Ellington guardedly. When she saw the club’s manager walking by, she didn’t hesitate to shout, "Manager Ellison, quick! This man is harassing ! He’s up to no good!"
Manager Ellison ca over imdiately.
Walter Ellington glanced over, distracted. In that instant, he felt a sharp pain on the back of his hand.
He then realized that Eva Monroe had bitten him.
"HISS— Are you part dog?" Walter Ellington sucked in a sharp breath and said quickly, "Eliza Sutton sent to find you."
Eva Monroe froze mid-bite. "Isla Sutton sent you?"
"Yes. If you don’t believe , ask Manager Ellison who I am."
Just then, Manager Ellison arrived.
When he saw Walter Ellington, he imdiately bowed. "Master Ellington, what brings you here? You honor us with your presence. What’s all this...?"
"It’s nothing. The young lady is just being a little mischievous."
Manager Ellison’s gaze swept over Eva Monroe’s face as he said with a chuckle, "Ah, I see. This must be your girlfriend, Master Ellington. She’s absolutely beautiful. You’re a lucky man."
"You’re too kind."
After a few more pleasantries, Manager Ellison left.
Walter Ellington’s gaze fell on Eva Monroe. "Done biting for now?"
Eva Monroe: "No more biting, no more biting."
She paused, then added, "Master Ellington, please don’t take it personally. I was just a little scared. After all, a girl as beautiful as has to be on her guard, don’t you think? But this ti it was my fault. A man of integrity like you, Master Ellington, is clearly not one of those creeps with bad intentions."
Walter Ellington: "Quite the sweet-talker."
Walter Ellington shoved his hands in his pockets and started walking away. Noticing Eva Monroe hadn’t followed, he glanced back. "What are you spacing out for? Hurry up and follow."
"Oh." Eva Monroe followed Walter Ellington out of the Nocturne Entertainnt Club.
"Master Ellington, where are we going?"
"To eat. Didn’t you say you wanted to treat to a al to thank ? No need to wait for another day. Let’s make it tonight." Walter Ellington’s gaze drifted over to her. "No objections, right? And you no longer suspect of having ’bad intentions,’ I hope."
"Of course not," Eva Monroe said quickly. "Since you’re not opposed, Master Ellington, I’ll definitely treat you tonight. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied."
Eva Monroe soon regretted it.
She swore she had been sincere when she said she’d treat Walter Ellington to a satisfying al.
But when she found herself sitting in a private room at The Imperial Feast, her poor heart still skipped a beat.
’This is The Imperial Feast! Legend has it that they serve dishes once favored by emperors.’
Eva Monroe didn’t know if the legends were true, but she did know one thing: the food here was genuinely expensive.
Noticing the look on Eva Monroe’s face, Walter Ellington asked, "Miss Monroe, you aren’t backing out and planning not to treat , are you?"
"No, of course not." Eva Monroe passed the nu to him. "You were a huge help today, Master Ellington. Why would I back out? Please, order whatever you like. Don’t be polite."
And then Eva Monroe regretted it again.
Walter Ellington ordered one dish after another, each more expensive than the last. That long string of prices was enough to give her a heart attack just by looking at it.
Walter Ellington ordered six dishes in one go. "Would you like to add anything else, Miss Monroe?"
"No, that’s fine. I don’t eat much. A couple of leaves and I’m full, haha..."
Walter Ellington didn’t insist and handed the nu to the waiter.
The dishes they ordered arrived quickly.
Seeing that Eva Monroe had a poor appetite, Walter Ellington asked, "Are these dishes not to your liking, Miss Monroe? If so, we can order sothing else."
"No need, these dishes are delicious. They’re perfect."
’The main issue is that the pain in my wallet is making it hard to eat.’
Eva Monroe estimated that this one al would completely drain her personal savings. This was the money she had painstakingly saved over four years of college—over one hundred thousand.
It actually made sense that Roy Jennings had dumped her for so other rich young lady.
Although the Monroe family was also a wealthy household, no less prominent than the one Roy Jennings had latched onto.
But her status as a "rich young lady" was a complete sham.
Her entire family wished she could live on air, terrified she might take even a single resource away from her younger brother.
That’s why, ever since starting college, she had been doing everything she could to earn money.
Walter Ellington said, "If you like it, then hurry up and eat. If it gets cold, we’ll just order new dishes."
At that, Eva Monroe began to eat like a whirlwind.
There was no way she was letting it get cold.
’Food this expensive? I can’t even waste a single speck of garlic.’
A flicker of amusent crossed Walter Ellington’s eyes.
After the al, Eva Monroe took her phone to the front desk to pay.
"Ma’am, the bill for your private room has already been paid."
"It’s been paid?" Eva Monroe was stunned. She turned to Walter Ellington, who was standing behind her. "Master Ellington, did you pay?"
Walter Ellington, holding his suit jacket, replied, "I don’t make a habit of letting won pay."
Eva Monroe grabbed Walter Ellington’s hand. "Master Ellington, you’re such a good person! The best person in the whole world!"
"Just because I didn’t let you pay?"
"How could it just be about you paying? You heroically protected tonight. You were my savior!"
"So, you plan to repay with your body?"
"No, no, no!" Eva Monroe shook her head furiously. "Absolutely not."
"Why not?" Walter Ellington raised an eyebrow.
"First of all, this whole ’repaying a life debt by pledging your body’ thing is just taking advantage. If I had to do that every ti soone saved , I’d need to know how to clone myself, and even then I wouldn’t have enough bodies to go around. Besides, Master Ellington, you saved , you didn’t ruin . I can’t exactly repay your kindness with a disaster, can I?"
’If she really got involved with Walter Ellington, her dear father would be at his door the very next day, ready to bleed him dry for the sake of her brother, the family’s only hope.’
"Anyway, Master Ellington, thank you so much for tonight. I’m leaving now."
At that mont, her ride-share arrived. Eva Monroe waved and got into the car, then drove off.
Walter Ellington watched for a long mont before finally pulling his gaze away.
...
「Late that night.」
Brenda Preston sat in front of her computer, scrolling through Innis’s personal webpage.
Finally—
her eyes lit up. She had found it.
Brenda Preston looked at the design on her computer screen and finally broke into a smile. "Eliza Sutton is finished this ti."
Brenda Preston took out her phone and made a call.
"Pearl, are you asleep?"
"Not yet." Pearl Lockwood was looking at that design of Eliza Sutton’s.
The design was just too perfect; it was as if it had been made just for her.
It was just a sha that Eliza Sutton had designed it.
But even though Eliza Sutton had designed it, she still loved it so much.
