"You little rascal, not everyone is as carefree as you are, talking to the old man so casually and joking around! Besides, with a row of people at the door staring at you with guns, how could you not be nervous or scared?" Back ho, the old lady’s energy and vitality had returned, and she said loudly with wide eyes.
Jiang Changhai shook his head: "Not nervous, not scared, I didn’t do anything wrong."
The old lady’s eyes widened even more: "So you an your old mother did sothing wrong?!"
Standing behind Jiang Changhai, Su Wanyu nudged him, signaling him to stop before he annoyed mom into a fight.
So Jiang Changhai imdiately surrendered with his hands up: "Alright, alright, mom, you’re right. Heh heh, actually, the first ti I went, I was a bit nervous too, but after going so many tis, I’m used to it."
Upon hearing this, the old lady waved her hand: "No need, I won’t ever get used to it in this lifeti. It’s enough to see the world once. We’ll go back to Stone Bridge Village in a couple of days. I’ve realized nowhere is as good as our hotown."
"Hey, mom, don’t leave just yet. It’s such a hassle making this trip, you can’t just stay for a few days and leave. Listen to , stay a few more days, I’ll take you out to have so fun." Jiang Changhai disagreed.
"Grandma, Grandpa, my dad’s right, stay a few more days." Jiang Mianmian implored them not to leave.
"Yes, mom and dad, it’s just that Brother Hai’s shop isn’t busy these days, he can take you out to explore and eat so good food." Su Wanyu chid in.
"We won’t go. People here plunder money like robbers; stepping out is costly no matter what we do, and we don’t want to play around. We ca this ti just to hold Mianmian’s adult ceremony. Once that’s done, we’re heading back." The old lady refused anything involving spending money.
"Changhai, Wanyu, your mother’s right. With all of us here, there’s no one left to farm at ho." Jiang Dashan added.
A year ago, Stone Bridge Village stopped collective farming. Now, the village policy is household contracting. The land is contracted to you, and if you don’t farm it, there’ll be no harvest co autumn.
Despite the Jiang family’s solid financial status now, where they wouldn’t worry about food even if they didn’t farm, and could enjoy fine als,
the frugal old couple couldn’t imagine spending ’high prices’ on grain. Furthermore, with so many family mbers, buying grain in such quantity would be costly. It’s much more economical to farm their own land.
Seeing the old couple resolute in not staying longer, Jiang Changhai and the others could only respect their decision.
"Alright, mom and dad, if you really don’t want to stay longer, at least stay for another three or five days. I’ll take you out to have so fun. After all, you can’t co all this way for nothing." Jiang Changhai gave way but still insisted on taking them out for a few days.
"Grandma, Grandpa, don’t worry about spending money. It’s sumr vacation now, and there’s a policy in the Capital City; tickets are half-priced now, and so parks and attractions are free, which usually charge. If we go now, we’re getting a bargain." Jiang Mianmian hit the nail on the head, addressing their main concern.
Sure enough, upon hearing this, the old couple perked up imdiately.
If there’s a bargain and you don’t take it, you’re a fool!
"Alright, we’ll listen to Mianmian and play around here for a few more days."
