As Gu Wan's words fell, Lu Yu clearly saw a change in the expression of the man before her.

Lu Yu frowned at the two professional nurses beside him and asked, "What's going on here?"

Of course the two nurses had no idea. They stamred, "S-She was fine just now."

Not just them, even Xia Qianqian, who had rushed over as soon as she heard the news and had been at Gu Wan's side the whole ti, was stunned speechless. Even the anger that had filled her when Lu Yu entered the room was now forgotten.

But before Xia Qianqian could react, Lu Yu had already pressed the call button by the bedside.

Seeing this, Gu Wan understood in her heart that sothing must have gone wrong. Although she didn't feel anything wrong other than the pain in her arm and slight nausea, seeing the deep frown on the unfamiliar man's face, as if he could crush flies, she decided not to refuse after so thought.

Soon, Gu Wan was surrounded by a group of doctors in white coats.

The hospital president, who had reluctantly co earlier at Lu Yu's insistence, now felt even more helpless. After all, in his opinion, Gu Wan's minor injuries could be treated by any doctor in the hospital. There was no need to call on him.

When he first heard it was a car accident, he was shocked, thinking it was serious. But it turned out to be just this.

Still, he had to give face to Mr. Lu. So the president didn't say much.

He had initially thought that Mr. Lu was making a fuss over nothing again. But after hearing that Mrs. Gu seed to have lost her mory and couldn't quite rember her husband, the president finally took it seriously. After all, brain damage could have serious consequences if not handled properly.

The president couldn't help but go over Gu Wan's CT scan results again. Finding no abnormalities indicated there, he concluded that her brain must have been shaken in the accident, causing temporary amnesia.

"How long do you think it might take to recover?" Just as the president was about to leave, Lu Yu suddenly spoke up.

Unfazed, the president estimated based on experience, "About ten days to twenty days at most, not more than three months."

Such cases were rare, but recovery from concussion was usually one to two weeks. Adding other factors, three months would definitely be enough.

Hearing this, Lu Yu relaxed visibly. "Mm," he murmured in acknowledgnt.

Xia Qianqian had intended to wait for Lu Yu so she could angrily scold him. But now she no longer had the heart for it. Head lowered, she patiently explained Gu Wan's doubts.

So Gu Wan learned that the man before her was her husband and that they had been married for nearly two years.

Gu Wan was stunned.

"So this is how it is," Gu Wan murmured softly, utterly confused. Although she didn't know exactly what had happened, she had only lost so of her mory, not her wits from the accident. From her understanding of herself, there was no way she would have gotten married.

Gu Wan looked over at Xia Qianqian, hoping to get an answer from her. But how could Xia Qianqian know the reason? As far as she was concerned, three years ago her fairy-like best friend had either gone crazy or been bewitched, or else how could she beco so obsessed with this man?

At her most paranoid, Xia Qianqian had even suspected Lu Yu was using so kind of thod on Gu Wan. But despite scrutinizing him for a long ti, she found no answers and eventually gave up helplessly.

In the past, Gu Wan had sincerely told her that she truly loved Lu Yu. But Xia Qianqian, who had dread of a sweet romance since high school but never truly loved anyone herself, could not understand. And the present Gu Wan was just as uncomprehending.

In fact, if Xia Qianqian weren't her best friend who would never lie to her at a ti like this, Gu Wan would have suspected that she and the man nearby were putting on an act together.

So why, why had her past self fallen so desperately in love with him that she had not hesitated to enter into marriage?

After Lu Yu finished replying to his company ssages, he turned to et his wife's intrigued gaze.

Gu Wan was extrely beautiful, so beautiful she seed almost otherworldly. Lu Yu had known this for a long ti. Still, occasionally when caught off guard like now, his eyes would be dazzled by her.

Seeing this exchange, Xia Qianqian eyed the one and then the other. Although she didn't much like the man in front of her and was still angry that he had only rushed to the hospital in the wee hours tonight, she knew Gu Wan must have much to discuss with him. So she didn't stay, only reminding him to be mindful of Gu Wan's injured arm before hastily taking her leave.

"I'll co see you tomorrow, wait for ."

Gu Wan smiled gently. "Mm, I'll wait."

Seemingly recalling sothing, she added, "It's hot lately, and I know you don't handle heat well, so don't feel you need to co if it's a bother."

Xia Qianqian felt her heart turn to mush.

Seeing this, Lu Yu unconsciously frowned.

With a click, the door closed. The two professional nurses looked at each other knowingly and went about their business, leaving Gu Wan and Lu Yu alone. An awkward atmosphere suddenly filled the room.

It was Gu Wan who broke the silence first. "Sorry about that. Qianqian is still innocent. She didn't an anything by it."

Gu Wan was actually highly attuned to others' emotions. Combined with her keen observational skills, there was no way she had missed those resentful looks Xia Qianqian had not-so-subtly thrown his way earlier. Gu Wan had also noticed that Lu Yu was aware of them all along but hadn't said anything.

Gu Wan didn't know how her past self had handled such situations. But seeing the well-dressed, imposing man before her, she knew a guileless girl like Qianqian was no match for him. In any case, apologizing on her friend's behalf was undoubtedly the right thing to do.

For so reason, Gu Wan felt the man's mood take an inexplicable turn for the worse after she finished speaking.

As always, Lu Yu didn't let his true feelings show on his face. He simply nodded slightly.

He was well aware that his wife's best friend had disliked him from the very start. But Lu Yu didn't care about such trifles and had never taken Xia Qianqian seriously, so it wasn't a question of whether or not he was angry.

Lu Yu pulled over a chair and sat close to Gu Wan's bedside. Up close, he noticed that not just her cheeks but even her usually rosebud lips were now bloodlessly pale. In addition to the blood seeping through the bandage on her forehead, Lu Yu instinctively started to reach out.

Almost by reflex, Gu Wan jerked her head back to avoid him, leaving his hand hanging in midair.

Lu Yu paused briefly in surprise.

If this had happened in the past, she would have already craned her neck closer for him to inspect before he could even raise his hand.

Soon Lu Yu was startled out of his thoughts by the buzz of incoming ssages on his phone. Without thinking, he knew they must be from his company associates. There were still many matters left to handle after today's long eting.

By instinct, Lu Yu glanced over at Gu Wan half-reclining on the bed.

Just like how she used to share all her little joys and worries with him, one of the things Gu Wan most hated was when he still had to handle work during their private ti together. As she put it, he was already so scarce to begin with during off hours that when they finally got so rare rest ti, it was going too far for him to ignore her like that.

In the past, Lu Yu had dismissed her complaints as unreasonable. But for so reason today, her words ca back to him.

Feeling the weight of his gaze on her, Gu Wan was perplexed at first. But after a mont it dawned on her, and she couldn't help widening her eyes slightly in surprise.

No way. Had she really been so demanding as to start monitoring whether others replied to their ssages?

Two seconds of silence hung in the air before they reacted almost simultaneously.

Deeming his own behavior inexplicable, Lu Yu decided to ignore her and dutifully began replying to his ssages in orderly fashion.

At the sa ti, Gu Wan said gently, "It must be urgent business at this hour. Go ahead and reply quickly."

Seeing that the other party had already started moving on their own, Gu Wan felt a little embarrassed. After a while, she seed to have recovered, and added another sentence on her own, "I'm sorry, I'm not very clear about what I was like before, if I really said sothing, don't mind , just go about your business."

Lu Yu's actions seed to have stopped for a mont, but it was as if he was organizing his words. In any case, his typing hand did not stop for a good while afterwards.

In the reflection of the cold mobile phone light, Gu Wan only noticed the fatigue between his brows at this ti, and rembered that he had only co to the hospital at this ti, he must have been very busy before, and it was the kind of busy he could not get away from.

So when Lu Yu put down his phone, got up and walked towards another bed to the side, and saw that the sheets and covers on it had already been changed, he was just about to casually tidy up and then lie down. However, she suddenly said, "It's late, you probably still have to go to work tomorrow, go ho and rest early."

Lu Yu's movents stopped, and then he suddenly turned around.

Then, Gu Wan t a pair of eyes looking at her deeply.
