"Let’s put this aside for now."
William Churchill was also feeling frustrated. Kyle Churchill’s recent accident had disrupted all of his plans.
When Kyle Churchill saw his father’s attitude, his explosive temper imdiately flared. "You’re still putting it off? Are you really going to wait until she’s the death of ?"
From a distance, Alice York couldn’t quite hear what Kyle Churchill was saying to William Churchill, but she could see William Churchill glaring angrily at his son.
’It looks like they’re having so kind of disagreent.’
She started to walk over, only to hear William Churchill say, "Now that Miss York is here with you, I want you to just stay ho and focus on recovering."
Kyle Churchill said nothing.
’Did they resolve their disagreent already?’
Alice York drew closer and deliberately fanned the air as she asked, "Does Young Mr. Churchill truly need my company?"
Kyle Churchill’s face was grim. "I don’t."
William Churchill shot him a glare. "Is that any way to speak to Miss York?"
"Uncle Churchill, please don’t be hard on him." Alice York moved to Kyle Churchill’s side, her eyes landing on his casted hand. She wore a look of perfect understanding. "Patients are most emotionally unstable when they’re recovering. Young Mr. Churchill doesn’t really dislike ; he just can’t control his bad moods."
Kyle Churchill gave Alice York a strange look. "Are you possessed or sothing?"
"You brat!" William Churchill’s tone was sharp with displeasure. "Look at Miss York. She’s so considerate."
Kyle Churchill was speechless. "Dad, she wasn’t acting like this a minute ago."
"Shut up!"
"..."
Once Kyle Churchill had cald down, William Churchill’s expression finally softened. He turned to Alice York. "Miss York, you’re a doctor, so you know better than anyone how to calm a person down. I’m leaving Kyle in your hands. Please spend more ti with him."
Alice York agreed with a smile. "Alright."
With that, William Churchill headed inside. He walked with a hurried pace, likely having other matters to attend to.
Alice York pulled her gaze back and turned her head, only to find Kyle Churchill staring at her with a look of utter disbelief.
She let him stare, completely unbothered. Every so often, she would lift a hand to sweep her hair back. Her glistening red lips, paired with her outfit, made her stunning beyond words.
Alice York’s beauty was undeniable. She could be cool and aloof, charmingly coquettish, or soft and sweet—her look was ever-changing, entirely dependent on her mood. It was just that most people had only ever seen her cold side.
Kyle Churchill narrowed his eyes. "What are you playing at?"
Alice York walked toward him, the corners of her lips turning down in a pout. "Young Mr. Churchill, you’ve misunderstood . I’m genuinely concerned about you."
"Concerned about ?" Kyle Churchill’s expression was indescribable. "I think you’ve been possessed."
He wasn’t falling for Alice York’s act. He turned and started walking toward his quarters.
Alice York followed him. He waved her away irritably. "Stop following ."
Normally, Alice York would have taken the hint and backed off. The impatience on Kyle Churchill’s face made it clear he genuinely didn’t want to be alone with her.
’But then again, her current plan was to get on Kyle Churchill’s last nerve.’
She ignored Kyle Churchill’s attitude and pressed on. "Uncle Churchill asked to spend more ti with you. I’m just doing what he asked."
Kyle Churchill’s voice was heavy. "Can you not be so annoying?"
Alice York was unperturbed. "Nope."
Kyle Churchill: "..."
Maintaining an attitude that was neither subservient nor accommodating, Alice York spent the entire afternoon creatively tornting Kyle Churchill, nearly driving him to his breaking point. Finally, as dusk began to fall, Kyle Churchill vanished. Alice York couldn’t find him anywhere.
’Truthfully, she was getting tired of it too, but to make Kyle Churchill despise her even more, she had to press on.’
She went looking for Kyle Churchill room by room, morizing the villa’s layout as she went. After checking seven or eight rooms without any sign of him, Alice York was about to give up when she suddenly noticed a door at the end of the hall was ajar.
She walked over and placed her hand on the doorknob.
Her intuition told her soone was in the room. She was about to push the door open when it was suddenly yanked open from the inside. A figure shot out, slamming into Alice York and knocking her to the floor.
A LOUD THUD!
Alice York lay on the ground, stunned for a long mont, her body feeling as if it had fallen to pieces.
She had gotten a clear look just now. It was Kyle Churchill. He had shot out at high speed, ramming into her like a bull, both of his hands waving excitedly as he quickly ran off.
’Wait a minute...’
’Two hands?’
’She was certain she hadn’t seen it wrong. That ’Kyle Churchill’ had been waving both hands. But didn’t Kyle Churchill have a cast on his arm...?’
All sorts of doubts flooded her mind. Alice York pushed against the floor, trying to get up, but she couldn’t put any weight on one of her feet. She rembered her heel twisting as she fell. Her ankle must be dislocated.
The room was in a remote corner of the house; no one would likely hear her if she called for help.
Alice York tried a few more tis, but the pain in her ankle was excruciating.
With no other choice, she pulled out her phone. Only as she scrolled through her call history did she realize she didn’t have a contact number for anyone in the Churchill family.
After a mont’s hesitation, Alice York called Mason Cheney. He answered almost imdiately. "Miss York."
Alice York hissed in pain. "Assistant Cheney, could you please send a phone number for one of the Churchills?"
Mason Cheney seed to have heard her sharp intake of breath. "Miss York, has sothing happened?"
After asking, Mason Cheney glanced up at Wyatt Sterling, who was sitting across from him, resting with his eyes closed.
"I’m fine. I just realized I don’t have a contact number for any of the Churchills and thought I’d get one from you." She wasn’t sure if Mason Cheney was with Wyatt Sterling.
’Whatever the case, she didn’t want him to know she was in such a sorry state.’
Mason Cheney glanced at Wyatt Sterling’s expression as he spoke to Alice York. "Has Young Mr. Churchill been discharged from the hospital? Miss York, you could ask him for a number directly."
’Alice York was beginning to regret making this call.’
But she was already in too deep and had no choice but to continue the lie. "Kyle Churchill hasn’t been discharged yet."
Wyatt Sterling slowly opened his eyes, his expression cool and remote.
Mason Cheney hesitated, wondering if he should warn Alice York. Third Master was always kept abreast of the Churchill family’s real-ti status. He knew exactly what ti Kyle Churchill had been discharged and what ti he had arrived back ho.
"If it’s not convenient, just forget it. Pretend I never asked."
When Mason Cheney didn’t imdiately provide a number, Alice York’s patience wore thin. Just as she was about to hang up, Wyatt Sterling’s voice ca through the phone—
"What happened?"
The cool, familiar voice made the back of Alice York’s nose sting with the urge to cry.
’It had been so many days since she’d heard his voice.’
"Speak."
His voice was even deeper than before.
Alice York bit her lip, her tornt written all over her delicate features. Her sense of grievance overwheld her pride. Her voice choked as she said, "I twisted my ankle. I can’t get up."
He asked, "Where are you?"
Alice York: "At the Churchill residence."
He said, "I’m coming over."
’For a second, Alice York thought the pain had made her delirious, that she’d misheard. Wyatt Sterling said he was coming over?’
But before she had ti to think, the line went dead.
Staring down at her dark phone screen, Alice York was stunned for a couple of seconds before sighing. ’Couldn’t he have just sent one of the Churchills’ numbers over!’
She put her phone away and tried to stand up on her own again. It took a trendous effort, and by the ti she finally managed to get to her feet, her back was soaked with sweat.
Just then, she heard the sound of hurried footsteps. Looking up, she saw two maids rushing toward her.
"Miss York, are you all right?" The maids flanked her, supporting her on either side.
Alice York was surprised. She hadn’t made a single sound, yet the two maids had found her precise location and run straight to her.
"How did you know I was here?" she asked.
