Alice York stopped in her tracks.

When she looked up, she saw lody Lancaster had also stopped and was looking back at her.

"Alice, don’t take it to heart. Young Mr. Churchill just got hurt, so he’s running hot. I’m sure he didn’t really an it."

lody Lancaster said, trying to comfort her.

Alice York just smiled. "Maybe Young Mr. Churchill is right. I’m his jinx."

Wyatt Sterling had already entered the hospital room. The shouting from a mont ago vanished instantly, and even the hallway fell quiet.

"Wyatt, you’re here."

William Churchill walked over, his face etched with exhaustion. He’d been worried all night without any rest, and dark circles hung under his eyes.

Wyatt Sterling gave a slight nod, his gaze shifting to Kyle Churchill on the hospital bed.

Lying there, Kyle Churchill seed a bit constrained. He was like a completely different person compared to the one who had been yelling his head off before Wyatt Sterling ca in.

Kyle was used to being wild and had never really been afraid of anyone. But from the first ti he t Wyatt Sterling, all he wanted was to keep a respectful distance. In reality, their paths had never crossed, and even he couldn’t understand why he felt an inexplicable fear whenever he saw Wyatt.

William Churchill prompted his son, "Kyle, greet him."

Kyle was particularly well-behaved at that mont, imdiately calling out, "Third Uncle."

Wyatt Sterling walked to the bedside. His towering, condescending gaze made Kyle extrely uncomfortable. "Are the bones set?"

William Churchill replied, "They’re set, but the doctor said Kyle’s condition is quite serious. We have to wait three days to see if there’s any displacent or infection."

Wyatt Sterling’s gaze flickered to Kyle’s heavily bandaged hand. "You’re in for so suffering."

Hearing this, William Churchill grew irritated. "The little bastard brought it on himself."

But Kyle was indignant. "I’ve said it a million tis! I didn’t start it. That guy provoked first."

William Churchill scowled. "With your track record? You expect to believe you?"

"C’mon... Dad, you’re my own father! Your son gets hurt this badly by soone else, and you’re still saying he brought it on himself?"

Having caused so much trouble in the past, Kyle’s credibility with his father was at an all-ti low. It was only natural that William Churchill didn’t believe him, but Kyle himself didn’t realize it.

"Perhaps the other party really did start it this ti."

Wyatt Sterling’s tone was light, tinged with a hint of a smile as he glanced at Kyle. "Isn’t that right?"

Kyle found Wyatt Sterling’s expression creepy, but he couldn’t stop himself from agreeing. "Third Uncle is right!"

Just then, Wyatt Sterling slowly leaned down, his hand reaching for Kyle’s injured one.

Kyle instinctively raised his other hand to block him. Seeing this, Wyatt let out a low, deep chuckle. "It seems the injury was quite severe. You’ve even developed so post-traumatic stress."

Provoked, Kyle turned his head and snapped at William Churchill, "Which room is the kid who pushed in? I’m gonna go kill him!"

"That’s enough! Just quiet down. Don’t forget you smashed a huge hole in the other guy’s head." As soon as William Churchill finished speaking, he noticed the figure at the door, and his placated expression darkened.

"Miss York is here as well," William Churchill said grimly.

He was from Washington and sotis believed in superstitions. His son had never gotten into serious trouble before, but this ti, right after he took her in, an accident happened. It was incredibly strange.

Alice York could tell William Churchill wasn’t happy to see her. But since she was already here, she couldn’t just leave without a word.

She brazenly stepped inside. "Uncle Churchill, how is Kyle?"

With Wyatt Sterling present, William Churchill couldn’t let his anger show too obviously, so he maintained a modicum of politeness. "The surgery was a success. Now we just have to wait and observe."

Just then, lody Lancaster also ca in, and a smile appeared on William Churchill’s face. "Miss Lancaster."

lody Lancaster nodded and asked about Kyle’s condition with concern. William Churchill’s voice beca gentle as he spoke, treating her with great courtesy.

Alice York paid no mind to William Churchill’s differential treatnt. She walked to the bedside, but the mont Kyle saw her, he told her to get lost in a particularly nasty tone.

Alice told herself to remain calm and reminded him, "Getting overly angry can lead to poor fracture healing. If the bone doesn’t set properly, you could be disabled for life."

Kyle: "..."

Wyatt Sterling glanced sideways at Alice York. She naturally felt his gaze, and for so reason, it felt scorching hot.

She chose to ignore it. But Kyle was extrely agitated. Not only did he not listen to her reminder, he beca even more enraged, pointing at her with his uninjured hand. "You jinx! Stop cursing ! Get out!"

Alice calmly responded, "Would Young Mr. Churchill prefer to hear a more professional dical opinion?"

Kyle said coldly, "You’re not my doctor. Don’t act so high and mighty in front of ."

Alice couldn’t be bothered to argue with him any further. She was about to turn away when the man beside her spoke, his tone unhurried. "Alice York is a doctor trained by the Sterlings. From the sound of it, are you looking down on my family?"

Kyle was dumbstruck.

Alice looked at Wyatt Sterling in surprise.

William Churchill rushed over. "No, no, Wyatt, you’ve misunderstood. Kyle hurt his hand and can’t control his temper. He speaks without thinking, but he didn’t an anything by it."

After saying this, William Churchill shot Kyle a glare.

Kyle looked embarrassed.

Wyatt Sterling’s expression was visibly unpleasant, and his voice was ice-cold. "I must have misunderstood the diagnosis. Was it not Kyle’s hand that was injured, but his brain?"

His words showed the Churchill family no courtesy whatsoever. However, since there was a reason for it, William Churchill was in no position to get angry and could only force a smile. "I’ll be sure to have a good talk with Kyle later."

Wyatt Sterling reminded William Churchill, "Don’t forget the partnership between the Sterlings and the Churchills."

The forced smile on William Churchill’s face froze.

"Young Mr. Churchill, please rest up. We won’t disturb you any longer." Wyatt Sterling turned and left.

Alice instinctively wanted to follow, but she quickly realized she’d been left behind. She pulled back the step she was about to take, her disappointnt visible on her face.

William Churchill saw the man to the door and only turned back after he was far down the hall.

Kyle said, "Dad, make her get out. I don’t want to see her right now."

William Churchill glanced at Alice York. Recalling Wyatt Sterling’s earlier words, he waved his hand dismissively. "Miss York, you should head back for now."

Alice couldn’t have asked for anything better. She didn’t want to stay here for another minute.

After leaving the room, Alice didn’t take the elevator down imdiately. ’Wyatt and the others have probably just reached the ground floor,’ she thought. ’If I wait a little, I won’t run into them.’

The two inpatient buildings were connected by a skyway, so she detoured to the opposite one. As she passed a room, a patient happened to be coming out.

Alice imdiately made way for him. The person thanked her. Just as Alice was about to say, "You’re welco," her expression froze. ’Wait... why does that voice sound so familiar?’

Alice looked up, trying to get a clear look at his face, but the man suddenly turned around and walked back into the room with his back to her.

’Wasn’t he just about to leave?’

’Why did he suddenly go back in?’

Sensing sothing was off, Alice stepped forward and grabbed the man’s arm. "Excuse , may I ask..."

The man turned his head, and Alice finally got a clear look at his face.

She froze. It was him!
