A few days later, Charles Smith finally saw Linda White.
As soon as he saw her, his voice was full of anxiety, "Linda! Where the hell have you been? I’ve called you so many tis, and no one answered! What about the lawyer I asked you to find? Did you find one?"
Charles was about to go crazy waiting here. What’s going on outside? How’s my mother? Does The Smith Family still care about him? There wasn’t even a single person to deliver news.
Linda sat down, comforting him, "These days I couldn’t answer your calls, I’ve been dealing with your mother’s matter. She divorced the Governor, and The Smith Family has directly given up on you and your mother. Madam has been sent to a convalescent ho abroad, probably for the rest of her life."
"He really dared to divorce her!"
Charles suddenly raised his voice, trembling with anger, "Without my mom, could he have beco the Governor? What an ungrateful bastard!"
Charles’ fists slamd hard on the table with a muffled "bang," causing the agent guarding nearby to frown and knock on the table as a warning.
"Quiet! If you make a scene again, the eting will be terminated!"
Only then did Charles bite his lip and suppress his anger, asking again about finding a lawyer for him.
Linda shook her head, with a note of helplessness in her voice, "No lawyer in Zylos dares to take your case.
You know, the Governor himself is pursuing this, and if it goes through legal procedures, you might even be sentenced to death."
The words hit Charles like a bucket of cold water, instantly draining the color from his face.
Linda hinted further, "But it’s not hopeless. If you’re willing to give the organization’s insignia, I can mobilize its power to help you think of a solution."
Charles’ expression turned grim, his eyes filled with venom, "It’s all Dr. Sterling’s fault! If he hadn’t interfered, I wouldn’t be in this predicant..."
At the thought of the word "death penalty," Charles couldn’t help but shudder.
After struggling for a while, Charles finally raised his head. "The organization’s insignia is at my place, left to by my dad.
Go get it now, and find a way to use all the organization’s power to get out, I don’t want to sit in prison!"
In his heart, Charles was still calculating, as long as he could get out this ti, The Smith Family, the Governor, Dr. Sterling, and even Emily Parker and her family, he wouldn’t let any of them go.
Walking out of the precinct, Linda didn’t waste any ti and quickly got the Prisnet insignia.
In a private box on the top floor of Althaven, Linda and Adam Willow clinked their glasses, producing a crisp sound.
Linda couldn’t hide her smugness, her voice full of excitent, "From now on, I’m the new leader of Prisnet, and this power will be used only by you and ."
She had finally erged from the shadows and would no longer have to look at anyone’s face.
Adam took a sip of his drink, the spirits burning his throat, but it didn’t dilute the ambition in his eyes.
He looked at Linda, asking in a calm tone, "What are you planning to do with Charles? Keeping him around is always a risk."
"The Governor will never let him go; Charles will spend his life trapped in prison until he dies there."
Linda laughed out loud as she spoke, her laughter filled with unabashed sarcasm.
She lightly spun her wrist, the red wine swirling in the glass like uncoagulated blood, casting a cold light under the lamp.
"As for that Governor, I had originally arranged for soone to act, but as soon as I figured out his whereabouts, I heard that he’s already in a bad shape and probably won’t last a few months."
She looked at Adam, a trace of viciousness flashing in her eyes, "With that calculation, we’re only left with the last trouble—Carlos and Emily Parker."
ntioning Emily Parker, a few drops of red wine splashed from Adam’s glass onto his shirt, like blooming droplets of blood.
"They... don’t deserve to die, do they?"
There was a hint of hesitation in Adam’s voice.
Without the Carter Clan’s support, Carlos was like a fallen phoenix.
And Emily Parker, once the Governor could no longer hold on, would have no backing in Zylos and naturally wouldn’t last, without needing them to act.
"What, feeling familial affection now?"
Linda scoffed, her tone full of mockery, "But the Carter Family never spared you even a bit of sentint back then."
She leaned forward, staring at Adam, piercing him with each word, "You think Charles Pond suddenly found your sister on his own? It was Emily Parker who gave him the information. And your dad—he was just sentenced to twenty years, and the Carter Family’s handiwork is evident in that too."
"Emily Parker?" Adam’s face changed dramatically as he looked up abruptly at Linda, "How could it be her?"
He had always thought it was Charles Pond’s investigation, never considering Emily Parker; could she really be so ruthless?
Adam took a deep breath, the last bit of hesitation washed away by the strong drink, and he downed his glass in one go. As the glass emptied, his voice turned exceptionally cold and hard.
"Help arrange a press conference imdiately. Tomorrow, I want to take over the Carter Clan in front of everyone."
Early the next morning, Adam Willow, in a perfectly tailored suit, walked into the Carter Tower.
The entrance was packed to the brim, with dozens of reporters from news dia holding caras, flashlights clicking non-stop, all eager to capture this major event.
Adam took the microphone, his gaze sweeping over the densely packed crowd below, "Ladies and gentlen, I’ve gathered you here today to formally announce that from today on, I, Adam Willow, will assu the position of President of the Carter Clan Group, taking full control of all its business operations."
As soon as he finished, a barrage of questions and cara shutters followed, with Adam barely restraining a smug smile.
Just as he was about to speak again, Linda, having just finished a phone call, hurriedly whispered a few words in his ear.
Adam’s smile froze instantly, his pupils contracting sharply.
His voice rose in shock, "What did you say? Several companies announced they are terminating cooperation with the Carter Clan?"
