He paused for a mont, his tone growing more solemn: "Before the boss had his accident, he specifically called over and repeatedly instructed to ensure your safety. I can’t let you take this risk!"
"Don’t worry, I’m not recklessly barging in," Emily Parker interrupted him, her voice carrying a hint of confidence, "On the contrary, I intend for The Smiths to invite in personally."
Oliver Ross was completely stunned, his hand holding the phone froze in mid-air, his mind filled with confusion.
"Mada? Have you gone mad from being so busy dealing with The Smith Family these days?"
For the people in Zenthar, especially Charles Smith, they couldn’t wish more to rid themselves of Emily Parker quickly, how could they possibly invite her in willingly?
This was simply wishful thinking.
Emily’s voice was steady as she slowly explained, "Didn’t you say we have soone hidden in Zenthar? Have that person find a way to get the ssage to Mrs. Smith’s ear.
Tell her that she knows soone who can alleviate Governor’s illness, and moreover, if Governor remains in a coma, not eating, drinking, or seeing light, over ti, his body is likely to deteriorate, and by then, even wanting to save him would be beyond help."
In the afternoon, sunlight filtered through the French windows of Governor’s bedroom in Zenthar, yet the heavy curtains blocked most of it, letting only a few weak beams fall on the pale face of the man on the bed.
Mrs. Smith sat by the bed’s edge, wearing a plain silk cheongsam with a small pearl pinned at the neckline. Her usually delicate makeup had faded considerably, unable to hide the fatigue in her eyes.
She held a small razor in her hand, gently shaving Prefect Tuttle’s beard.
Without the stubble, Governor’s face seed even more gaunt, with his cheekbones protruding, tightening Mrs. Smith’s heart.
After shaving Governor’s beard, she wrung out a warm towel, wiping his hands and arms bit by bit. When her fingertips touched his cold skin, she couldn’t help but pause slightly.
"Will Old Tate be alright?"
She looked up at Linda White standing nearby, her tone full of concern, reaching out to touch Governor’s cheek, "Look at him, why does he seem to have lost so much weight, his face as white as paper?"
Linda quickly stepped forward, her face beaming with a smile.
"Mada, don’t worry. Governor certainly will be alright.
He’s just been staying indoors this whole ti, lacking sunlight, so he looks a bit haggard.
Once things settle down in a few days, and the plans for the new Governor are nicely handled by the Secretary General, we will naturally have Governor wake up. By then, you can accompany the Governor, find a peaceful place to retire, and enjoy your golden years."
Mrs. Smith slowly nodded, her gaze returning to Governor’s face, a hint of complexity flashing in her eyes.
She felt a bit distressed, and sowhat helpless.
Things have reached this point, The Smith Family has given it all to pave the way for Charles Smith, just for him to take the Governor’s position.
Now that Charles Smith’s illegitimate status has been exposed, there’s no turning back. As a mother, besides striving to help her son ascend, she has no choice but to let Old Tate be wronged for a while.
Her gaze slightly darkened, and Mrs. Smith suddenly spoke, her tone chilled: "By the way, what about that woman nad Emily Parker?"
ntioning this na, a trace of loathing appeared in her eyes?
If it weren’t for Emily Parker suddenly erging and disrupting all plans, things wouldn’t have reached this dire situation.
Charles Smith’s identity wouldn’t have been exposed, and she wouldn’t be dragged into this irrevocable whirlpool. All of this was because of Emily Parker!
Like mother, like daughter—back then, Grace Parker stole Old Tate’s heart, and now Emily cos to ruin her son’s future, truly equally detestable!
Linda quickly followed her words, speaking with complete disdain.
"Mada, rest assured, that Emily Parker is now like a turtle hiding in her shell, staying inside her apartnt, not daring to co out.
Without Carlos backing her, she’s nothing!
The Secretary General said, once he officially becos Governor, stabilizes the situation, he’ll imdiately take care of her, never letting her be an eyesore to you again."
Only then did Mrs. Smith slightly nod, her anxious heart dropping a bit as she instructed Linda a few words.
"Take good care of Old Tate here, report imdiately if there’s any movent."
After speaking, she turned and exited the room.
In the corridor covered with thick carpets, Butler Adler ca quickly to greet her.
Butler Adler was a veteran in Zenthar, having been here for over twenty years. He usually didn’t speak much, but did things ticulously, earning Mrs. Smith’s trust.
