Chapter 348: Chapter 340: Monarch Confronts Monarch

The room suddenly plunged into dead silence.

Carlos’s fingers had sohow already grasped the fruit knife that had been tossed to the ground by D.

The blade flashed a cold arc in the sunlight, the next mont it was already pressed against D’s throat.

“Carlos! How dare you!” D’s voice for the first ti showed an obvious tremor, her red lips slightly quivering.

Carlos’s hand was frighteningly steady, the tip of the knife didn’t move a bit, resting on D’s carotid artery.

His eyes colder than the blade: “I’ve already died once, what else is there to be afraid of?”

Sunlight stread through the curtains, casting a sharp line of light between the two.

There was no expression on Carlos’s pale face: “Rather than being threatened by you, we might as well perish together.”

D’s breathing noticeably quickened, her fingers slightly curling.

She stared firmly into Carlos’s eyes, trying to find a hint of wavering, but those eyes were as cold as the polar ice, unfathomable.

“I hate,” Carlos said word by word, “others using my family to threaten .”

Ti seed to freeze at this mont.

Only the sound of the two people’s interwoven breaths could be heard in the ward.

Finally, D’s shoulders relaxed slightly: “I won’t touch your family.”

Her voice returned to its usual calmness, “But you have to promise one condition.”

The blade retreated slightly by an inch.

“The price I paid to save you was not small either.”

D continued, with a bitter smile on her red lips.

Only then did Carlos slowly retract the fruit knife, casually picking up an apple from the bedside table.

His movents were slow, his wounds clearly still in pain, but the action of peeling the apple was unusually steady.

“As long as my family is not implicated,” Carlos said leisurely, “the condition can be negotiated.”

The apple peel ford a perfect spiral in his hand, slowly falling.

D watched his actions and suddenly let out a light laugh:

“Over the years, I’ve killed no less than a hundred people for Prisnet.”

Her voice carried a tint of self-mockery, “They promised that once I killed 100, they’d hand Prisnet over to completely.”

Carlos’s hand paused slightly in peeling the apple.

“You are my 100th mission.”

D’s gaze fell on Carlos’s bandaged chest, “Unfortunately…it failed.”

“So I have to kill one more person,” she said softly, “to truly beco the boss of Prisnet.”

Carlos cut the peeled apple in half and handed one piece to D: “For you, killing is easy.”

D took the apple but didn’t eat it: “But I can’t kill you.”

Her voice suddenly beca complex, “In this assassination, Prisnet used two top assassins.”

She bit into the apple: “If I hadn’t been prepared, I really might have ended up perishing with you.”

Carlos quietly watched her, suddenly asking: “Why save ?”

D’s movents halted.

Her voice was soft, almost like a sigh, “I can’t kill you, I originally planned to use the narrow space of the cockpit to kill you, but your reaction was too fast.

Even at the last mont, you were still controlling the helicopter, my first bullet couldn’t directly kill you, if I had fired a second one, I wouldn’t have had ti to parachute to safety.

And you know, I never fire a second shot when killing.

If I can’t kill you, then I need your help, only if you help , can I possibly eliminate my next target.”

Carlos leaned against the head of the bed, his pale face showed not a single ripple, only those deep eyes flickered with a dangerous gleam.

D suddenly pulled irritably at her black gloves: “The last ti the person who assassinated you with was Prisnet’s current number two killer…” Her voice paused, “he’s dead.”

“So now…” D’s voice lowered, “I am even less assured alone.”

Carlos chuckled lightly, his voice full of unabashed sarcasm: “Looking for soone to cooperate? That’s not like you.”

“The opponent is really too tricky.” Her voice carried a rare hint of frustration, “You might not believe it…”

She suddenly leaned forward, her black hair cascading down, the mask almost touching Carlos’s nose: “Even the old man back then… couldn’t kill him.”

Carlos’s pupils slightly contracted. He clearly rembered who “the old man” was — the King of Warriors who once terrorized the entire underworld.

“Tell ,” his voice was low and dangerous, “who is this target that leaves you helpless…”

“Your governor,” her voice was very soft, but it made the room’s temperature plumt, “the man known as ‘King of Warriors’.”

Outside the window, the sunlight was suddenly obscured by clouds, and the ward instantly darkened…

A few more days passed, and Emily Parker, nearly seven months pregnant, appeared at the Carter Automotive research center. Ever since Carlos and the research director were involved in an accident, the research center had almost been at a standstill.

The mont Emily Parker showed up, the employees at the research center all stood up at once.

“General Manager Parker!” Soone was the first to speak, the voice filled with uncontrollable excitent.

“Should call her Deity Owen!” Another voice chid in, filled with respect.

The research center staff looked at Emily Parker, their eyes filled with excitent at the reunion and sadness for the current situation—they knew the kind of burden the pregnant “Deity Owen” was shouldering at this mont as she stood there.

“I know everyone hasn’t been feeling well lately,” Emily Parker lifted her hand to gently press her abdon, her voice steady but powerful, “I’ve also heard the rumors outside—those conditions offered by other car companies are indeed tempting.”

She paused, her gaze sweeping across each familiar face present: “But Carter Automotive doesn’t belong to only Carlos, it’s built with countless sleepless nights and hundreds of revised designs by all of us. Now that he has fallen, I can’t let you all scatter either.”

“For those willing to stay, I, Emily Parker, guarantee, what Carlos could give you, in the future, I will only offer more, not less.”

She gently caressed the design drawings on the table, her fingertips tracing those familiar lines, “For those who don’t want to stay, I won’t stop you either, your salaries and bonuses won’t be shorted by a single cent, and I will write you recomndation letters.”

A low murmur arose from the crowd, fists were clenched, and so eyes secretly turned red.

“But I most wanted to tell everyone,” Emily Parker’s voice suddenly rose, “Our next new car has already been designed and developed.

This is the design plan.”

With that, Emily Parker gently placed those few pages of drawings on the table, her fingertips pausing at the title of the topmost page.

“This is the final new model plan we decided on before anything happened to Carlos.” Her voice carried a slight imperceptible tremor, but she quickly steadied, “He said this car was to break all existing model records.”

The first few engineers who ca forward only glanced at it twice, their breaths suddenly halting.

The structural design on the drawings had improved significantly compared to the previous generation, especially in the layout of the battery safety compartnt, featuring a few buffer structure markers they had never seen before.

The crowd instantly beca like a lake into which a stone had been thrown, boiling over completely.

“If this structure can be realized, the range can be increased by at least thirty percent!”

“And this anti-rollover system, it’s optimized so much better than our previous test version!”

Emily Parker watched the scene before her, the tense corners of her mouth finally revealing a slight curve.

She knew, these drawings were not only the hard work of Carlos and herself but also what could pull everyone back together again.
