Chapter 298: Chapter 291
After walking out of Evan Palr’s office, Adam Willow couldn’t help but catch up to Emily Parker.
“Emily, about the Sterling Research Institute, it wasn’t who pushed you out of the project team.
It was Little Sophie; she went to the chairman to complain on her own.”
He lowered his voice,
“That was a chance to work with Dr. Sterling, I know how important it is for you.”
Emily Parker gave him a aningful look and smiled.
“Important?”
She let out a light laugh,
“Assistant Willow, such an opportunity is very precious to you, but not to .
Even though we’ve known each other for many years, it seems you never really understood , not even as much as Carlos, who I’ve only known for a short while.”
The Sterling Research Institute collaboration project, for her, had long been concluded. The institute and Eastern Hospital would collaborate directly; soone would naturally oversee it then.
As for the Carter Clan, they are rely a money bag.
Adam Willow was stunned; he didn’t expect Emily Parker to view him that way; he’s not even as good as Carlos?
Emily Parker’s gaze was completely different from when they were at the restaurant; she seed too lazy to even speak a word to him. Her eyes no longer showed any disappointnt; she couldn’t even bother to give him disappointnt now.
“You’ve changed.”
He blurted out.
“I haven’t changed, it’s just that you’ve never truly seen who I am.”
Emily Parker pressed the elevator button. She stepped inside, leaving Adam Willow outside.
In the mont the elevator doors closed, Adam Willow heard her say:
“Adam Willow, be careful. This ti, I won’t hold back anymore.”
Emily Parker returned to the office where Carlos stood at the floor-to-ceiling window with his back to the door. He turned around when he heard the door open.
“I heard you agreed to the COCO collaboration project.”
Carlos had apparently already gotten wind of it early.
Watching Emily sit down, he casually stuffed a maternity pillow behind her lower back.
“Didn’t Evan Palr give you live updates?”
“Emily, you’ve taken on a hot potato.”
Carlos leaned down, bracing the armrests on both sides of her chair,
“Their representative rejected us seven tis. Neither Oliver Ross nor Evan Palr could successfully negotiate cooperation with COCO, except for .”
Emily suddenly burst into laughter:
“Are you worried I can’t handle it?”
Carlos shrugged, “At worst, we’ll both be thrown out of the Carter Clan together; it’s not like it’s my first ti being kicked out.”
Carlos glanced at his phone.
“The COCO representative arrives on the 3 PM flight today. I’ll go with you to et them.”
In the international arrivals hall, the LED screen flickered with flight information. Emily Parker and Carlos kept looking forward as passengers stread out.
“The flight shows it’s already landed.”
Carlos checked his watch,
Just then, a middle-aged woman erged from the VIP channel.
Yuriko approached with an elegant stride, dressed in a sharply tailored COCO suit, dragging a suitcase with her left hand while having a low conversation with the translator by her side.
The female translator lifted her head, flashing a cryptic smile when she saw the welcoming crowd.
Emily Parker’s pupils suddenly contracted—, the impeccably dressed translator was Rainny White.
“What a coincidence, Director Parker.”
Rainny was the first to speak, her wavy hair cascading over her shoulder as she tilted her head.
Her hand, painted in nude nail polish, seed to accidentally brush her flat belly.
“You ca personally to pick them up?”
Yuriko scanned Emily Parker’s pregnant belly with eyes like a scanner, frowning slightly.
But when her gaze moved to Carlos, she suddenly spoke to Rainny White in Japanese.
“Ms. Yuriko said,” Rainny’s translation ca with a subtle pause, “she didn’t expect the Carter Clan to send a pregnant woman to negotiate.”
Carlos stepped forward to half-block Emily Parker’s pregnant belly: “We value capability over appearance.”
His fluent Japanese made Yuriko raise her eyebrows slightly.
“Capability?”
Yuriko finally spoke, “COCO only collaborates with top teams.”
She suddenly pulled a docunt out of her bag and handed it to Rainny White,
“Pass this test first, then talk.”
The title on the cover, “COCO Partner Qualification Review,” glinting in the light was glaringly reflective.
Just as Emily Parker was about to take it, Yuriko had already turned away,
“Rainny, is the car ready?”
Giving Emily Parker no chance to speak, she strode towards the exit in ten-centiter high heels.
Rainny lagged two steps behind, deliberately casting another wistful glance at Carlos.
“Rainny, how did you beco Yuriko’s interpreter?” Carlos asked, rembering that Rainny White should still be job hunting at this point.
“Previously, I perford well at the First Officer’s inauguration party. The governnt office where Sister Sophie Parker works knew COCO was looking for a global partner, and Ms. Yuriko needed a Japanese interpreter. I studied Japanese as my second language in college, so I was recomnded to her as an interpreter. She’s very satisfied with . It looks like we’ll have plenty of opportunities to interact moving forward.”
Rainny was all smiles.
Contrasting with the embarrassnt of not finding a job before, Rainny felt that lately, everything was going her way.
As she spoke, her suitcase nearly bumped against Emily Parker’s legs and abdon.
Carlos quickly extended his foot, blocking the suitcase.
“Be careful.”
His tone carried more severity.
Rainny’s smile faded a little.
Seeing how Carlos protected Emily made her feel bitter inside.
“What’s the big deal? Isn’t it just because of her pregnancy? If Sister Sophie Parker hadn’t asked not to tell Brother Carter about my pregnancy temporarily—until I can announce it in three months—that would be being protected by him now.”
Rainny thought inwardly.
“We’ll chat another day. I should go see to Ms. Yuriko.”
Reluctantly, Rainny walked away.
At night, after reviewing COCO’s collaboration docunts, Carlos returned to the bedroom.
In the bedroom, only an amber night lamp was lit.
Emily Parker turned over in her sleep; her five-month pregnant belly made her look like a beached whale.
The silk quilt had slipped to her waist, revealing her fuller curves due to pregnancy.
As soon as he lay down, Emily Parker unconsciously rolled into his embrace, her warm hand slipping under his shirt, her cheek rubbing against his chest.
His entire body tensed instantly.
He hesitated, glancing at a pillow that had been kicked to the floor by soone.
Since Emily’s belly had grown larger, she had a hard ti turning over in her sleep, so she specifically got a pillow.
At that mont, she had already started treating the man in front of her as a pillow.
Carlos didn’t dare move. Even worse, soon, her leg intertwined with his.
He finally just carefully encircled her, his hand covering her swollen abdon, suddenly feeling distinct fetal movents.
At that mont, Carlos felt an unprecedented sense of bliss, knowing the two most important people in his life were right there in his arms.
