Chapter 249: Chapter 244 Old Lady Carter

After a long wait, Mrs. Carter’s condition finally stabilized.

The family outside the operating room breathed a sigh of relief.

Mrs. Carter was taken to the ward.

Outside the ward, Evan Palr called to a few people who were about to enter to visit.

“Your grandfather isn’t doing well.”

Evan Palr’s voice shattered the brief calm,

“He concealed his condition from the hospital and insisted on being discharged.

He had a sudden brain hemorrhage on the plane. Though he was sent for ergency treatnt imdiately after landing, he has remained in a coma and has not woken up since.”

Evan Palr inford everyone of another piece of bad news, like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky.

After saying this, Evan pointed an accusing finger at Emily Parker and said viciously,

“It’s all her fault! If it weren’t for her, this jinx, your grandfather wouldn’t have rushed to go abroad.”

“Dad, how can you bla sister-in-law for this?”

Upon hearing this, Maria Carter felt a surge of guilt and her eyes turned slightly red as she hurried to defend Emily Parker,

“Grandfather decided to go abroad on his own and I was the one who took him there.”

“I do bear so responsibility for this.”

Knowing that the Old Master had not regained consciousness, Emily Parker felt more sorrowful than anyone. Her mind kept replaying the monts she had spent with her grandfather, filled with regret.

She should have considered that her grandfather was too old and in poor health, making it unsuitable for him to go abroad for recuperation, let alone take a long flight.

“This is not your fault.”

Seeing Emily Parker’s self-bla, Carlos could no longer contain his anger.

When Evan Palr shouted at Emily, Carlos had clenched his fists, trying to suppress his inner rage.

If it weren’t for the fact that his mother was still in the operating room, uncertain between life and death, he would have confronted Evan Palr imdiately.

At this mont, he couldn’t hold back any longer and shouted,

“Evan Palr, don’t forget who insisted on sending grandfather abroad! You clearly didn’t want grandfather to stay in the country. You’re the real culprit for what happened to him!”

“Sending your grandfather abroad was your grandmother’s decision.”

Evan Palr’s face turned white then red from Carlos’ words, and he responded with a cold sneer, forcing himself to remain calm,

“If you have sothing to say, say it to your grandmother.”

As he spoke, he proudly raised the phone in his hand.

Only then did Carlos notice that the call had already been connected long ago.

The expressions on Carlos and Maria Carter’s faces turned heavy. Compared to the Old Master, Old Lady Carter was always stern, seldom showing emotions, and was not very close to the siblings.

Emily Parker’s gaze was also drawn to that small phone, feeling both nervous and curious, not knowing what kind of attitude the old lady of the Carter Family would have.

Soon, an elderly woman with a slightly stern face and ticulously grood white hair appeared on the video.

“Grandmother.”

Carlos and Maria Carter called out softly, their voices tinged with a mix of reverence and apprehension.

Emily Parker had yet to speak when Carlos promptly said,

“Grandmother, this is Emily Parker, my wife.”

Emily Parker breathed a slight sigh of relief. If Carlos hadn’t introduced her in ti, she really wouldn’t know how to address the old lady of the Carter Family.

“If I didn’t hear wrong, you two think I’m the one who hard your grandfather?”

Old Lady Carter’s voice, tinged with authority and coldness, ca clearly through the phone, indicating she had heard the earlier conversation.

She sat in a luxuriously yet coldly decorated room, with shelves filled with various precious antiques behind her.

Her gaze swept over everyone through the phone screen, sharp enough to seem like it could see through people’s hearts.

Emily Parker noticed that her gaze deliberately skipped over her, never pausing even for a mont, as if she were invisible.

“Grandmother, that’s not what I ant.”

Carlos bowed his head slightly, speaking in a low voice, his tone filled with a hint of helplessness and repression.

He clenched his fists tighter, his knuckles whitening due to the force, trying to suppress his discontent.

“Carlos, you’re just as impulsive as ever, acting and speaking without thinking.”

Old Lady Carter snorted coldly, her brows furrowing tighter, making the wrinkles on her face even more pronounced,

“How can I trust you with the company with this attitude?”

Her tone was as though evaluating a useless piece of property, making it clear she was very displeased with her grandson.

Carlos remained silent. From a young age, both Old Lady Carter and Evan Palr had been highly critical of him, never giving him the recognition he deserved. He had long beco accustod to this feeling of being denied.

But even so, being reprimanded like this in front of his wife still stirred a wave of anger within him.

“Grandmother…”

Maria Carter’s eyes were full of worry, wanting to help explain a few words for her brother, yet she was interrupted by Old Lady Carter before she could finish speaking.

“Maria, go inside and check on your mother. I have sothing to say to your brother and your father.”

Old Lady Carter’s tone brooked no argunt, her eyes flashing with unyielding authority.

Maria Carter bit her lip lightly, looked helplessly at her brother and Emily Parker, and turned to enter the ward.

Emily Parker stood in place, at a loss, not knowing whether to stay or leave.

Just as she was about to follow Maria Carter into the ward, her hand was suddenly grabbed by Carlos.

Carlos, lowering his voice, said, “You stay. You are my wife, and there is nothing my grandmother wants to say that you can’t hear.”

His voice, though quiet, was firm enough for both Evan Palr and Old Lady Carter on the phone to hear.

He held Emily Parker’s hand tightly, also signaling to his grandmother that Emily was his wife.

Emily tried to gently pull away but found it was impossible to break free in a short ti.

“You are Emily Parker?”

Old Lady Carter’s voice ca from the phone, filled with the scrutiny of soone in power.

Her gaze finally rested on Emily through the screen, as if evaluating a commodity for sale,

“You look decent enough. Since Carlos has spoken, you may stay.”

Her tone carried reluctant approval, as if allowing Emily to stay was a significant favor.

“Mother, whatever you have to say, please give your instructions. We’re all listening.”

Evan Palr’s face was full of eager smiles, leaning slightly towards the phone, and said to Old Lady Carter, his eyes revealing uncontrollable anticipation.

“Evan, a lot has happened recently. I will take care of the Old Master’s situation.”

Old Lady Carter sat upright in her chair, the sunlight outlining her figure with a cold, hard edge. She paused and then continued in an orderly manner,

“As for dostic matters, I have already discussed with other board mbers. You will act as the acting chairman and take over the managent of the group. From now on, the Carter Clan will be in your hands.”

Her tone was calm, yet every word was like a heavy hamr, stirring waves in everyone’s hearts.
