Chapter 236: Chapter 231 Things Remain, People Change
The sound of light footsteps echoed through the hallway, followed by the click of a key turning the lock, breaking the silence inside the room.
Alia Willow humd a tune as she walked in, her high heels clacking on the floor.
At that mont, the clock on the wall pointed to eight-thirty in the evening.
Alia had a delicate makeup on her face, a form-fitting blue dress, and a brand-new branded bag slung over her shoulder, brimming with youthful charm.
She walked over to Adam Willow and affectionately grabbed his arm, pouting,
“Bro, you’re back. I’m out of pocket money. Can you give another 2000?”
Adam was interrupted by his sister’s sudden request.
He slowly raised his head, his gaze eting his sister’s, his brows furrowing tightly.
In recent months, Adam had noticed changes in his sister.
The once plain-faced, simply dressed schoolgirl now paid more attention to her appearance, with a maturity in her gestures.
“Why are you dressed like this?”
Adam’s tone carried a hint of disapproval,
“And doesn’t Mom give you 2000 yuan at the beginning of each month? It’s only the fifth, and you’ve already spent it all?”
Adam had always trusted his sister. She had excellent grades and was always among the top students in her class, a source of pride for teachers and parents.
Although there were subtle signs she might be romantically involved with that boy, Charles Pond, he rembered going through a similar phase in high school.
The hazy emotions of adolescence were unavoidable, and given that Alia’s recent exam scores were still among the best in school, he hadn’t interfered much.
“Bro, don’t be so old-fashioned. The makeup was taught by my sister-in-law, and this bag was a gift from soone. I have to return favors by treating others to als and movies. Don’t worry, I won’t let it affect my grades.”
She spoke rapidly, like a machine gun, as if she had rehearsed this speech.
After speaking, she even intentionally yawned. She had taken the afternoon off to accompany Charles Pond and had just co back after playing until now.
Alia now had access to ready-made study materials, easily achieving good grades. In her view, Maria Carter and her friends were idiots for needing to study hard to keep up.
Adam’s expression grew darker as he listened to his sister’s explanation.
He sensed the perfunctory tone in her words and noticed she didn’t care about his reminders.
Seeing her brother’s apparent displeasure, Alia’s face showed a hint of dissatisfaction, her tone becoming sowhat confrontational,
“If you won’t give it to , I’ll just ask my sister-in-law.”
She knew well that her sister-in-law always doted on her, almost never denying her requests.
All the makeup, branded clothes, and various dating tips, like buying intimate products, were taught by her sister-in-law.
In her eyes, her sister-in-law truly understood her, unlike her brother, who was always so old-fashioned.
“Lately, don’t bother her. She’s quite busy,”
Adam quickly called out to his turning sister.
He knew he and Sophie Parker weren’t suitable for each other.
He didn’t want his sister to be overly influenced by Sophie.
Adam took out his phone and transferred 2000 yuan to his sister.
“Don’t waste it,”
Adam looked at his sister, his eyes full of brotherly concern and advice,
“Also, you can play, but no staying out overnight.”
His tone was gentle, but his words carried weight.
Adam didn’t speak too bluntly, just subtly reminding his sister. He believed the always-good-student Alia should understand his love.
Alia’s eyes lit up when she saw the notification of the transferred money, and her previous displeasure instantly vanished.
“Thanks, bro!” She said happily, her face beaming with a satisfied smile as she quickly stuffed her phone into her bag and casually said,
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing!”
Then she humd a little tune and went to call Charles Pond.
Adam glanced at his phone and found a ssage that ntioned him.
Only then did Adam notice the ssages in the class group chat.
His gaze swept over the words. When he saw the part about Emily Parker, his expression changed.
Adam’s eyes stayed glued to the screen, the class president’s words about weddings and being together filled with irony.
They were an ideal couple in the eyes of others, those simple and beautiful tis… those promises of moving forward together, shattered by him.
In the group, the only reply from Emily was a brief “Sorry, I can’t help. I quit my job recently.”
Afterward, she fell into a long silence, no matter how much others discussed, she didn’t respond.
Adam stared at the screen, watching the constant stream of ssages. After a while, he took a deep breath and slowly typed a line,
“I also quit, but I can ask a forr colleague to arrange a bed for your mother.”
As soon as Adam’s ssage was sent, the entire group chat exploded.
Especially the girls who once had a crush on him, sending a flurry of surprised emojis and questions.
“Adam Willow, why did you quit as well?”
“What happened, school heartthrob?”
“Did you find a better job? I heard you were the most promising young doctor at the People’s Hospital.”
ssages poured in like snowflakes, full of concern and curiosity about him, while no one paid any attention to Emily.
But Adam found these ssages annoying.
Emily, seeing Adam’s activity in the group and her classmates’ contrasting attitudes, felt disheartened.
She prepared to toss her phone, which kept bringing bad news, onto the corner of the sofa.
Just then, soone ntioned Nana Ross at the bottom of the screen, along with the girl who had been picking on Emily.
“Can’t you speak properly? Emily quit because she got married.”
Evelyn Hanson had always been a lively core in the class group, able to stir up any topic. Every online and offline gathering of classmates lacked neither her presence.
But lately, she’d been too busy with the complex upgrade at the Eastern Hospital, working around the clock and rarely checking her phone.
Finally finding so free ti after work, she opened her phone to a string of ssages, instantly angered by the heated discussion.
She hadn’t expected that just a day’s absence from the group chat would lead to Nana Ross, that shaless woman, mocking Emily again.
Almost simultaneously with Evelyn seeing these ssages, the entire group fell into an eerie silence.
Everyone seed stunned by the sudden “big news,” not knowing what to say.
The atmosphere grew increasingly awkward in silence, and just then, the class president insensitively ntioned Adam again, sending a ssage: “Congratulations, old classmate. Why didn’t you tell us you’re getting married?”
