22: Chapter 22 A Generous eting Gift 22: Chapter 22 A Generous eting Gift Carlos Carter’s face was a picture of “affection” as he supported Emily Parker, looking every inch the expectant father.
“My child, your eldest grandson, deserves a greeting gift of at least five or ten million.”
Evan Palr’s face was covered in dark clouds; he had never seen such a thick-skinned couple,
“Unfortunately, today I only brought a check.”
Evan Palr’s face was clouded over with gloom.
He had never anticipated that Emily Parker would be trickier to deal with than all of Carlos’s previous partners combined.
“No money?
Then it should be a house.
Dad, you have a comrcial property near the People’s Hospital, right?
Since Lan works at the hospital, let that property be the child’s greeting gift.
On behalf of the child, I thank you, Dad.”
Carlos had no qualms about asking directly for the comrcial property.
A comrcial property in Capital could cost several million, if not tens of millions.
Emily Parker cooperated very well, giving Evan Palr that sa look.
Evan Palr’s complexion turned ugly, and it took all of his strength to suppress the urge to curse out the Carters.
With a nod, he gave his reluctant consent.
“Dad…”
“I’m going to check on the horses at the racecourse; you go see your mother first so she doesn’t get anxious waiting.”
Afraid that the shaless couple might make even more outrageous demands, Evan swiftly mounted his horse, spurred it, and made a hasty retreat.
“Dad is actually quite nice.”
Emily Parker smiled as she watched Evan Palr’s retreating figure, thinking that he didn’t look much like Carlos.
Evan’s aura and facial features reminded her more of soone else.
“Heh~ You really do have the fool’s luck.”
Carlos thought to himself that with this financial blow, Evan Palr would likely avoid troubling Lan for a while at least.
After they left, Evan Palr’s expression darkened as he stared toward the main building.
“Carlos, do you think you can get past your mother with that woman?
If your mother falls ill with anger, you’ll be the eternal villain of the Carter Clan, and then I’ll see if you still have the face to stay with the Carter Family.”
The main building of Cloud Lake Villa stood before a lake.
It was a vast construction of white marble that looked like a palace.
Upon entering, there stood a crystal chandelier over two ters tall and a circular white marble staircase, with imported carpets on the floor.
When Carlos brought Emily Parker inside, Mrs.
Carter had just finished taking her dicine and was sitting on the sofa.
She was about the sa age as Grace Willow, with ear-length bobbed hair, looking sowhat more aged and thinner.
Her health did not seem the best, as she was coughing from ti to ti.
To Emily Parker, Mrs.
Carter appeared extrely beautiful, dressed in a deep red Chinese-style cheongsam with an ivory silk shawl draped over her.
It was clear that Mrs.
Carter must have been quite stunning, and Carlos looked more like his mother.
“Mother, Emily Parker is here.”
After entering, Carlos abandoned his previous frivolous deanor, respectfully bringing Emily Parker in front of Mrs.
Carter.
“Is this Emily Parker?
Why did you bring her here so hastily?”
Mrs.
Carter was quite surprised and looked up at Emily Parker.
Carlos had been set up on many blind dates over the years, and Emily Parker was the first he had brought ho.
Mrs.
Carter was quite pleased with Emily Parker’s appearance, nodding slightly and asking her to sit beside her.
“Emily Parker, stay for dinner.
Let know what you like to eat.”
Emily Parker ntioned a few of her favorite dishes.
“Carlos, go inform the butler and tell the kitchen.
I’d like to have a chat with Emily Parker.”
Understanding his mother’s intention, Carlos stood up to leave but reminded her again.
“Mom, Emily Parker is pregnant.”
Mrs.
Carter’s eyes flickered, but she said nothing more.
After Carlos left, Mrs.
Carter took Emily Parker’s hand, asking casually as if they were having small talk,
“I enjoyed our phone conversation last ti and always wanted to et you.
To think, how many tis have you and Carlos t for you to be with child now?”
Mrs.
Carter’s hand felt rather cold, and her tone was colder still, and the look she gave Emily Parker no longer contained any of the previous warmth.
