That evening, Claire rcer was in the study, organizing her design drafts.
Staring at the date on the final draft—still from two years ago—she felt a surge of emotion.
For the past two years of their marriage, she had poured all her energy into Gavin Sinclair.
She had even set aside her greatest passion: design.
Now that she was determined to get a divorce, it was ti to reclaim her career.
After the divorce, it would be how she supported herself.
She flipped through her old sketches. Though the designs were two years old, they still felt fresh and weren’t outdated.
She had always been confident in her design skills.
Once the divorce was finalized, she was going to throw herself into her work.
Just then, her phone rang.
Claire picked up her phone. It was Gavin Sinclair.
She didn’t answer, simply hanging up.
But the phone kept ringing, grating on Claire’s nerves.
She silenced her phone and tossed it aside.
Now, even as Gavin’s calls kept coming, Claire couldn’t hear a thing.
The phone finally went quiet. But then, Claire heard soone shouting her na from downstairs, outside the villa.
It was Gavin Sinclair’s voice, laced with anger and impatience.
"Claire rcer, open this door right now!"
’She actually deleted my fingerprint and changed the passcode. Now I can’t even get in.’
’This is my house too! What right does she have to keep out?’
"Don’t pretend you can’t hear , Claire rcer. I know you’re in there."
"Open the door! I want to co ho."
Driven to distraction by Gavin’s shouting, Claire cursed under her breath.
"What a lunatic."
She was worried he would disturb the neighbors.
She quickly grabbed her phone and called building security.
"Could you please remove the lunatic downstairs? He’s causing a disturbance."
This being a high-end gated community, the security was diligent and arrived downstairs at once.
But Gavin refused to budge, insisting he was also an owner of the villa.
"My wife and I are having an argunt. You’d best stay out of it."
"Now get lost, or I’ll report you to your manager."
The security guards were just employees. How could they possibly afford to offend a resident?
The residents of this community were all rich and powerful.
With no other option, security had to call Claire back.
"Miss rcer, the man downstairs won’t leave. He claims to be your husband."
"If you’re married, then he’s a resident too, and I have no authority to remove him."
"However, his behavior is disturbing the other residents."
"Please resolve your personal matters as quickly as possible so you don’t disturb the neighbors any further."
Completely exasperated with Gavin, Claire had no choice but to go downstairs and let him in.
Before she went to open the door, however, she made a call to Scarlett Jewel.
Scarlett answered almost imdiately, her voice dripping with smug satisfaction.
"Claire, dear. Why are you calling so late?"
Claire paid no mind to her gloating.
"Scarlett Jewel, is that all you’ve got? You can’t even keep your man on a leash."
"It almost makes think you’re a useless fool."
At those words, Scarlett, who had just lain down to sleep, shot upright.
"What do you an by that?"
Claire said, "Gavin’s here, looking for ."
"What?"
’He just left the rcer family’s ho. How could he have gone to find Claire so quickly?’
Scarlett said, "I don’t believe you."
Claire recorded a video of Gavin roaring downstairs and sent it to Scarlett.
"Believe now?"
Scarlett: "..."
’That bastard, Gavin Sinclair.’
’Back when Claire was head-over-heels for him, he was whispering sweet nothings in my ear, promising the world.’
’And now that Claire is just playing hard to get by asking for a divorce, he starts groveling back to her.’
’No, I can’t let them be alone together in that room.’
’What if she ends up pregnant with his child? What would I do then?’
With that thought, Scarlett decided she would have to play the victim again soon.
「anwhile.」
The mont Gavin was inside, he started grilling Claire.
"You deleted my fingerprint, you changed the passcode... what’s the aning of locking out of my own house?"
His face was still bruised from where Adrian Sutton had hit him.
With his eyes glaring at her like that, he looked utterly ridiculous.
"It ans I don’t want you in the house."
"By what right?" Gavin demanded, furious.
"I’m your husband! What right do you have to keep out of my own ho?"
Claire’s face was cold, her eyes dark, and her voice dripped with revulsion.
"Like I said, not for long."
"You’d be wise to stop harassing ."
Staring at the cold, resolute woman before him, Gavin sneered and said through clenched teeth,
"Claire rcer, I never knew you were so bold."
"Running to my mother and grandmother to demand a divorce."
"Just because I have a mistress, you’re so insistent on divorce that you’d make a scene in front of my grandmother?"
"Do you really need to make such a big deal out of it?"
"Absolutely," Claire said.
"You’re not just physically filthy; your heart is filthy, too."
"You’re a man who reeks of a foul stench from head to toe."
"Just being under the sa sky as you makes the air feel polluted."
As Claire’s words hit him, veins bulged on Gavin’s forehead. He was so furious it felt like every blood vessel in his body was screaming in rage.
It took him a long mont to extinguish the volcano of rage erupting in his chest.
He stared at Claire, a sinister smile playing on his lips.
"So you really want a divorce?"
"Yes," Claire said. "The re sight of you disgusts ."
"Fine," Gavin said. "You want a divorce? You can have it."
At his words, Claire’s eyes lit up. "Are you serious?"
"Of course," Gavin said, his eyes fixed on her. "But you have to agree to one condition."
"Agree to my condition, and I’ll go with you to the Civil Affairs Office tomorrow and sign the papers."
The sinister, wicked smile on his face sent a chill down Claire’s spine.
An icy, horrifying chill spread through her veins.
She watched him warily. "What condition?"
Gavin stared at Claire, his bruised eyes glinting dangerously.
"We’ve been married for two years, and you have yet to fulfill your wifely duties."
His words made Claire instantly recall the last ti he’d said the exact sa thing.
But Scarlett had called him away that day, so he hadn’t succeeded.
’So today... does he plan on trying to do *that* to again?’
Claire’s heart pounded anxiously. His next words confird her fears.
Gavin continued, "As long as you satisfy tonight, I’ll go with you to the Civil Affairs Office tomorrow and finalize the divorce."
"We’ve been married for two years. We should at least sleep together once, right?"
"I can’t get divorced without even knowing what you taste like, can I?"
"If word gets out about this, what will people think of ?"
"Besides, didn’t you tell my mother that I might... not be able to perform?"
"Why don’t I show you tonight just how well I can perform."
Gavin’s words made Claire’s stomach churn with nausea.
"Gavin Sinclair, you make sick."
"Don’t be in such a hurry. Soon, I’ll send you to heaven and back."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Claire saw Gavin stalking toward her, one step at a ti.
A lecherous grin stretched across his face, his eyes gleaming with a manic excitent.
He looked like a demon, filled with endless malice, intent on destroying her tonight.
With every step he took, Claire felt the danger closing in.
