Chapter 70: A Long-Lost Flutter

Past 10 PM, Lu Liang and Su Wanyu arrived at Guangzhong Fifth Village. This area housed campuses of prestigious universities like Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai International Studies University, ShanghaiTech University, and Tongji University.

Though it was sumr vacation, many graduate school aspirants were still around, making the streets lively.

As a Lamborghini SUV drove through the university town, it imdiately drew envious stares from the students.

“Hongfa Apartnts, just ahead,” Su Wanyu directed, pointing to a worn-out 26-story building with many lit windows, indicating a high occupancy rate.

"I drove you all the way back. Aren’t you going to invite up for a glass of water?" Lu Liang asked playfully as he parked by the roadside.

Suspicious, Su Wanyu replied, "What are you planning?"

After a whole evening together, the once-polite "Mr. Lu" had, in her eyes, transford into "Lu the Rascal." And strangely, she found herself liking the rascal more—he felt more genuine, with a touch of human warmth.

Still, their relationship had progressed rapidly enough for one evening, and the thought of taking another step forward made her uneasy.

"Just curious. I want to see your place," Lu Liang admitted candidly. He shared stories from his days as a real estate agent, describing the various conditions of young won’s apartnts he had encountered—so immaculately tidy, others surprisingly ssy. He was curious which category Su Wanyu fell into.

"You used to be a real estate agent?" she asked, surprised.

"Of course. I wasn’t born rich, after all," Lu Liang said casually.

His nonchalant tone belied the hardships she imagined he must have endured to reach his current position. Her heart softened, though she feigned ferocity. "Just a quick visit and a glass of water—if you try anything, you’ll regret it."

"Understood, Miss Tigress," Lu Liang chuckled, ruffling her hair, which earned him a playful slap on the hand.

“Stop it, you’re annoying!” she grumbled, baring her teeth. But as she turned away, a faint smile betrayed her true feelings.

---

Lu Liang helped her out of the car, steadying her as she hobbled on her crutch. She lived in a small single room on the sixth floor of the apartnt building.

“6023, this is it,” she said, hesitating as she fished for her keys.

Lu Liang stood by, smiling knowingly. Since they were already at the door, there was no way he wouldn’t take a look inside.

“Fine, co in. It’s nothing special anyway.”

Pushing open the door and turning on the lights, the modest layout was imdiately visible.

The room was simple: a bed, a desk and chair, a mirror, and a fabric wardrobe. Books dominated the rest of the space.

There was no girly pink the, just a clean and straightforward setup. The only unusual item was a long blue seahorse-shaped body pillow on the bed. The lower part of the pillow was noticeably faded compared to the upper half, hinting at its frequent use as a snuggling companion.

Noticing Lu Liang’s gaze, Su Wanyu blushed furiously and quickly covered the pillow with her blanket. She hopped over to the desk, searching for disposable cups but found none.

Reluctantly, she wiped her own cup thoroughly with a tissue before filling it with water and handing it to him. “There’s only one cup. Hurry up and drink so you can leave.” ɌἈNȱΒЕŚ

Lu Liang sipped the water slowly, sitting in the only chair, while Su Wanyu perched on the bed.

Suddenly, faint noises filtered through the wall—a rhythmic creaking of furniture against the wall accompanied by muffled moans.

Normally, such sounds would be masked by the hum of fans and air conditioners, but tonight, they seed amplified a hundredfold.

"Aren’t you leaving?" Su Wanyu puffed her cheeks, trying to suppress her embarrassnt. She shuffled air from one cheek to the other in a loop, her face flushing as the noises grew more noticeable.

The sound of Lu Liang setting down the cup startled her. The clink of the glass against the desk reverberated loudly, making her heart skip a beat.

He leaned in slowly, his eyes locking onto hers.

"W-what are you doing?" she stamred, her voice trembling as she instinctively leaned back.

Lu Liang chuckled softly, brushing her hair aside as he kissed her gently on the forehead. "Goodnight. I’m leaving."

At the door, he paused and added, "From tonight on, I’m your boyfriend. No matter the ti or situation, you can always call ."

"I’ll co by tomorrow afternoon to pick you up for the office. Wait for at ho."

Smiling, he turned to look at her one last ti. "That’s all I have to say. Your turn?"

"Uh... g-goodnight," she managed, raising her hand chanically like a beckoning cat.

As soon as the door closed, Su Wanyu exploded into a frenzy. She rubbed her cheeks furiously, then dove under her blanket, hugging the seahorse pillow tightly and shaking it in mock frustration.

After venting, she slowly cald down, only to giggle softly a mont later.

---

anwhile, Lu Liang returned to his car, glancing up at the balcony of room 6023. For a brief mont, a shadow seed to flit past.

His phone buzzed with a ssage from Su Wanyu: "Drive safe. Goodnight~" accompanied by a shy cat emoji.

"Goodnight, sweet dreams," he replied with a smile.

For the first ti in ages, he felt a flutter in his heart—though it also stirred a naless restlessness.

In the dim car, the flick of a lighter ignited a small fla as he murmured to himself, "To the Peace Hotel. I’ve reserved a good suite. I’ll be there shortly."

He discarded the cigarette, made a call to Tan Tao, and instructed, "Reserve a suite for . A woman nad Zhang Qian will arrive soon. Take her up directly."

---

Forty minutes later, Lu Liang arrived at the Peace Hotel.

Tan Tao greeted him at the entrance. "Mr. Lu, Miss Zhang is already in suite 602."

Handing over his car keys, Lu Liang made his way upstairs to the Spanish Suite, styled with a warm, tropical charm.

Opening the door, he saw a graceful figure in a blue knit dress by the window, admiring the city lights.

Zhang Qian, in her fitted blue "battle dress," wore sheer black stockings and black heels with red soles. Her every move highlighted her curvaceous figure.

Lu Liang quickly approached, wrapping his arms around her waist. She turned to him with a smile. "What’s wrong?"

His only response was a heavy breath. She quickly matched his intensity, responding in kind.

The night was long, the dress battle-worn, its neckline stretched beyond repair.

Afterward, Zhang Qian lay on his chest, lightly tracing patterns on his skin. "The fast-food business is going well?" he asked absentmindedly.

"We’ve just rented the location. Renovations will take another 25 days," she replied with a smile.

As she stretched languidly, Lu Liang asked, "Not curious about what happened to tonight?"

"If you want to tell , I’ll listen. If not, I won’t ask. Either way, it seems resolved," she replied, her tone teasing.

Lu Liang chuckled, pinching her cheek. "Yes, resolved."

Though he cherished Su Wanyu’s innocence, it had nearly shattered his resolve.

Yet as he reflected during the night, he found clarity: Why not both?

If the truth could be hidden, he would. If it couldn’t and she couldn’t accept it, they would part ways.
