When Qin Ren entered, he found that the two of them were sitting a good distance apart. Zhouzhou was in the corner, puffing out her cheeks and looking quite upset, occasionally glaring at Jing Bai. Jing Bai, on the other hand, had an impassive expression, his lips tightly pressed, radiating a chill that could've replaced the air conditioning.
Seeing them like this, Qin Ren raised an eyebrow in mild curiosity. How co they were always talking about each other when they weren't around, but now that they were together, they were causing trouble?
He walked up to Zhouzhou and ruffled her hair, asking with curiosity, "Did you two have a fight?"
Zhouzhou imdiately tattled, "Big Brother, he said I'm short and that I'm a tripping hazard!"
After hearing this, Qin Ren couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle, "Pffft."
Upon seeing this, Zhouzhou's expression turned imdiately resentful. What did that laugh an? Did he agree with Jing Bai?!
Noticing her gaze turning dark with anger, Qin Ren quickly controlled his laughter, cleared his throat, and furrowed his brows in mock disapproval. "How could he say that? That's too much!"
Zhouzhou huffed in indignation.
Qin Ren patted her head and continued, "Our Zhouzhou is not short at all. You've grown much taller than before. You're going to keep growing taller and taller."
"Exactly!" Zhouzhou proudly puffed out her chest, standing tall with her hands on her hips.
She turned toward Jing Bai with a haughty glare. "Did you hear that?!"
Jing Bai ignored her.
Qin Ren watched them both, feeling a bit amused. They were acting like children in kindergarten, with minds as tiny as needles.
He took Zhouzhou's hand and walked toward Jing Bai, lightly coughing before saying, "You two... When you're not together, you're always thinking about each other, but once you see each other, you start arguing."
At hearing this, Jing Bai's eyelids twitched slightly, and he glanced at Zhouzhou. "You were thinking about ?"
Zhouzhou initially thought of saying no, but then she thought about how lonely Jing Bai looked on his own. Her heart softened a little. She snorted, turned her head, and refused to look at him. He kept hurting her feelings, and if he did it a few more tis, she would really stop caring about him!
Jing Bai's expression softened slightly. Fine, he wouldn't argue with her.
As he recalled her earlier question, he said, "Your dad ca by a few days ago, gave a pill, and then left."
Zhouzhou quickly turned her head at these words, her eyes wide. "What was the pill for?"
Jing Bai thought for a mont before answering, "It's a drug used for mind control, one that suppresses a person's ntal strength and forces them to answer every question."
When Zhouzhou heard the last few words, her pupils contracted in sudden realization. She recalled what Qin Xu had said before. He ntioned that the Fourth Bureau's position had been exposed, and there were suspicions that it had been leaked by the previous War God's team.
This seed to match up. But the people who talked didn't do it willingly. They were being controlled by drugs.
Her father was probably out looking for people right now.
At this thought, Zhouzhou rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
Jing Bai seed to have guessed what she was thinking and comforted her. "Don't worry, your dad is very capable. He'll be fine."
This was the first ti he had comforted soone.
Qin Ren glanced at him, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
Jing Bai, feeling a bit uncomfortable, coughed lightly and put on a serious expression, not saying anything more.
Qin Ren couldn't help but chuckle. Zhouzhou truly had a magical influence on people. She had changed so many of them.
Zhouzhou, unaware of Qin Ren's thoughts, was still preoccupied with Ye Lingfeng's situation. She couldn't help but worry. She had even tried reading his fortune and found that he was safe for now. That made her breathe a sigh of relief.
"Well, I'm off then," she said. She still had math problems to solve for her competition, and ti was tight.
As she turned to leave, Jing Bai's expression imdiately darkened. He silently watched her back, his gaze emotionless, but Zhouzhou, seeing it, couldn't shake the feeling that she had sohow upset him.
She paused in her steps, turned around, and ran back to him. Grinning, she hugged his leg and said, "Big Brother, don't be mad. I've just been really busy these past few days. After I finish my competition and get the prize money, I'll co and spend ti with you!"
Jing Bai, after thinking for a mont, asked, "When?"
Zhouzhou was actually well prepared for this question. "In August!"
Brother Dafu said that by July, they would finish the national competition. If they won, they could participate in international competitions, with their accommodation and travel fully covered. She wouldn't have to spend a penny to go abroad.
She had heard how expensive international tickets could be. With that kind of benefit, Zhouzhou was determined to put in the effort. She was going to grab that free trip!
Hearing this, Jing Bai's expression grew even darker.
It was only June now!
Zhouzhou, still holding his leg, shook it, trying to coax him. "Big Brother, two months will pass quickly. And if you miss , you can co visit at my house!"
Jing Bai placed his hand on Zhouzhou's shoulder, gently pushing her back, then turned his attention back to his experint, as though the earlier reluctance had been nothing but a joke.
Zhouzhou blinked, confused by his sudden change.
Qin Ren, however, almost burst out laughing.
He led Zhouzhou out and explained, "Last ti he ca over, Grandma was so enthusiastic. She kept talking to him, and she scared him so much that the next morning, he left without even having breakfast."
When Zhouzhou heard this, she recalled, "That was a long ti ago, wasn't it?"
Qin Ren sighed dramatically, "See? That's so serious trauma."
He struggled to suppress his laughter, unable to believe that Jing Bai had been so scared by Grandma's hospitality.
Zhouzhou couldn't help but laugh as well.
Behind them, Jing Bai deliberately slamd the door shut, clearly trying to send a ssage to the sibling duo: he wasn't deaf, he could still hear them!
Zhouzhou and Qin Ren turned around, both breaking into laughter again.
Zhouzhou's mischievous nature flared up. She flung the door open and poked her head out, calling after him, "Big Brother, co on! My grandma's really nice. She's just super talkative because she likes you."
"And not just Grandma. I have my Uncle, my Aunt, and Second Uncle..."
She was counting on her fingers when suddenly, her collar was yanked from behind. Before she could react, she was thrown out, and the door slamd shut with a loud bang, followed by the sound of the lock being turned.
The laboratory wasn't crowded, and this area was specially designated for Jing Bai. He was usually the only one there, and no one dared to enter.
This was the first ti he had locked the door.
All because of that mischievous little chubby girl!
Qin Ren couldn't hold back his laughter anymore. He burst into laughter.
Zhouzhou was unapologetic, her little hands on her hips as she laughed out loud.
Inside the room, Jing Bai squeezed the syringe, veins standing out on his hands, his expression devoid of emotion. He thought to himself, it was ti to prepare a "mute drug."
Let's see how loudly they would laugh next ti!
After tornting him, Zhouzhou happily ran out, hopped in the car, and went ho.
As soon as she got back, she saw the Chief of the police station sitting there.
Seeing her, he imdiately smiled, "Zhouzhou, where's that Lei Chong kid? Our psychological expert is back from his business trip, so we won't need your help anymore."
At these words, Zhouzhou's smile imdiately froze.
That was it... She was unemployed now...
