The old lady initially heard their argunt and was about to go downstairs to scold Zoe Lewis for her granddaughter when she was startled by Zoe’s shouting, nearly falling down the stairs!
She ca down trembling, staring at her granddaughter in disbelief: "Is what she said true? Whose child are you carrying?! You’re not even married, and yet you dare to ruin yourself like this!"
Cherry Lewis’s voice was nearly a scream: "I didn’t! Grandma, why don’t you believe ? How can you trust the words of an outsider!"
Zoe Lewis, with tears in her eyes, said timidly: "Grandma, I’m not an outsider; I’m your granddaughter too! What I said is true; how could I dare to lie about sothing like this? I’m afraid sister would get too angry and harm her health, and if the child is lost, won’t it be blad on ? I can’t bear such a responsibility!"
The old lady was nearly faint with rage, and said sharply: "Shut up! Do you want everyone to know your sister is pregnant? What are you shouting for!"
Zoe imdiately lowered her head and stopped speaking.
With trembling hands, the old lady called the family doctor to co and examine Cherry.
The Lewis family’s doctor had worked here for many years. Unlike Zoe, who was "naive", he knew that Cherry’s pregnancy wasn’t a joyous event, so he didn’t say anything congratulatory. After the examination, he rely nodded to the old lady: "She’s two months pregnant."
The old lady almost blacked out again.
The doctor hurriedly supported her to sit on the sofa and whispered after she recovered: "The fetus’s condition is not good, if keeping it, the young lady must stay in bed from today to care for the pregnancy."
The old lady’s eyes turned fierce: "Keep it for what! Get rid of it now!"
"Then the young lady needs to co with to the hospital; this procedure can’t be done here."
"You leave first, I’ll handle things here, and tomorrow make ti, I’ll personally take her to the hospital!"
"Yes."
The doctor, without further comnt, left with his dical kit, walking faster than when he arrived, afraid of getting entangled in the Lewis family’s shady affairs and being silenced.
Initially, the old lady had several family doctors, and now only he remains alive.
He’s scared!
He knows very well how the other doctors died!
All because they knew too much!
As soon as the doctor left, the old lady pointed at Zoe and shouted harshly: "Kneel down!"
Zoe was confounded, widening her misty, innocent eyes, seemingly unable to believe that the old lady was asking her to kneel, not Cherry.
"Grandma, it’s not who did wrong, why do you..."
Before she could finish, the old lady raised her cane and hit her on the head with it.
Zoe hastily dodged, and at a distance of two ters from the old lady, she fell to her knees with a thud and shouted: "Grandma, don’t hit , I’m kneeling!"
This distance was just right; the old lady’s cane couldn’t reach her, and if anything was thrown, she could react in ti and dodge.
"Get over here! How did you know your sister was pregnant? Why didn’t you say anything sooner?"
"I only found out recently too, Grandma, you can’t wrong ! I noticed sister hadn’t had her period for a long ti, her tastes changed, and she often retched in the morning, plus she gained weight, so I guessed it!"
Zoe looked aggrieved: "I thought sister didn’t want to share this secret with , so I pretended not to know. It wasn’t until today I realized sister was so careless, not thinking about pregnancy despite missing her period for so long."
