A cold, familiar voice made Finn Fuller freeze.
A few seconds passed before he turned around. When he saw Connor Quinn sitting on a high stool at the entrance of the tattoo shop, a cigarette dangling from his lips, his entire body tensed instantly.
Their eyes t. Connor Quinn said nothing, his narrow eyes half-lidded as he peered through the smoke.
One second, two, three...
Finn Fuller, failing to control his expression, forced a smile. "Eldest Senior Brother."
Connor Quinn sneered. "Eldest Senior Brother?"
Finn Fuller gritted his teeth. "Mr. Quinn."
In contrast to Finn Fuller’s tension, Connor Quinn was completely relaxed. He casually took the cigarette from his lips and flicked the ash. "How’s it been, being a dog all these years?"
The question was insulting enough on the surface.
But the more one thought about it, the deeper the insult felt.
And yet, Finn Fuller didn’t dare to argue. "It’s... it’s been okay."
Connor Quinn grunted in acknowledgnt, his expression deadpan. "In any case, you’ve found your place. Honestly, from the day you joined our school, I always thought you had the makings of a good dog."
Finn Fuller’s heart hamred with rage, but he didn’t dare let the smile drop from his face. "Mr. Quinn has always been a good judge of character."
Connor continued, "It’s a sha Master was too soft-hearted. He insisted on treating you like a human being."
Finn Fuller said nothing.
A mont later, Connor Quinn told him to get lost.
Finn Fuller kept a smile plastered on his face as he said his goodbyes. But the mont he got into the car, his expression turned livid.
Seeing his state, the driver asked with concern, "Director Fuller, are you alright?"
Finn Fuller ripped the tie from his neck and threw it aside. He kicked the back of the driver’s seat. "Drive! Fuck, are you looking down on too?"
The driver flinched and didn’t dare say another word, hastily turning the steering wheel to pull away.
After they’d driven so distance, Finn Fuller’s rage subsided. He pulled his phone from his pocket and made a call. "I ran into Connor Quinn at Moira Sloan’s place."
anwhile, after Finn Fuller left, Connor Quinn stubbed out his cigarette and got to his feet.
He was about to head back into the tattoo shop when Shauna Duane’s cheerful voice called out from behind him. "Connor Quinn."
Connor Quinn turned, his gaze heavy.
Shauna Duane skipped over to him, holding three cups of milk tea. She offered one to him. "This is for you."
"No, thanks," Connor replied coldly.
"Are you still mad at ?" Shauna asked.
"I was never mad at you," Connor Quinn said, his voice low.
Her eyes lit up. "Does that an you’re not mad at anymore?"
Seeing that they were on completely different wavelengths, Connor Quinn said flatly, "Shauna, save your passion and patience for soone who deserves them."
She looked at him with pleading eyes. "But I think you’re that person."
Connor stated bluntly, "There’s already soone else."
Hearing this, Shauna Duane’s face fell. "I know. It’s Moira Sloan, right?"
Connor Quinn didn’t deny it.
Shauna Duane pouted. She’d known Moira Sloan for a while and genuinely liked her, so she couldn’t bring herself to speak ill of her. She could only state the facts. "Moira Sloan is beautiful, and she has a great body, but do you really think she’d be interested in you? Forget everything else, with your financial situation, you probably can’t even afford the bride price..."
After she finished, she lowered her head and mumbled under her breath, ’I’m not bad looking, and my body’s okay too. Most importantly, not only am I interested in you, but I don’t even want a bride price...’
"Shauna..." Connor began.
As Connor spoke softly, Shauna looked up, her eyes shining with hope.
But in the next second, Connor’s impassive expression suddenly darkened. His voice grew a little hoarse as he said, "I know all that. I don’t have much to offer. She could never be interested in ."
Shauna was stunned to see the hurt, yet fiercely suppressed, emotion on Connor’s face.
’No.’
’That’s not what I ant.’
’I was just trying to say that we’d be a better match. I didn’t an to put him down.’
Shauna opened her mouth to explain, but before she could get the words out, Connor had already turned and disappeared back into the tattoo shop.
Shauna was left speechless.
Moira Sloan, who had stepped outside for so air right behind Shauna, was also speechless.
After a mont, Shauna turned and her eyes t Moira’s. They both looked down at the sa ti, then looked up again in unison.
Shauna kicked at a small pebble on the ground. "Moira, was I too harsh?"
"Not really," Moira said.
’That’s nothing,’ Moira thought. ’Compared to , you’re not even in the sa league.’
