The mont Connor Quinn finished speaking, the atmosphere in the bedroom froze solid.
The two of them just stared at each other, neither speaking a word.
After about a full minute, Connor Quinn reached for the towel and makeup remover pads on the nightstand, then got up and left.
Watching his retreating back, Moira Sloan pressed her lips together, her heart tying itself in knots.
’Jerk.’
’The mont I finally show him a bit of kindness, he has to go and make things difficult.’
「The next day.」
It just goes to show: even if you drink too much, you’ll never sleep soundly as long as you have sothing on your mind.
Moira Sloan tossed and turned until four in the morning before finally drifting off.
And she only managed that by lulling herself to sleep with a horror movie.
The film was terrifying, easily the most high-quality one she had seen in a while.
The monts when the female ghost appeared were especially intense...
And then... she fell asleep.
In her dreams, she walked among ghosts and beca a Ghost Hunter.
Moira Sloan was jolted awake by a phone call.
She groggily grabbed her phone and answered. Finn Fuller’s excited voice ca from the other end. "Moira, are you free today?"
Moira Sloan was beyond exhausted. "Spit it out."
Finn Fuller said, "If you have ti today, I can arrange for you to et with those big shots."
Hearing this, a flash of impatience crossed Moira Sloan’s face. She was about to refuse, but a thought made her change her tune. "When today?"
"Tonight," Finn Fuller replied. "Everyone’s busy during the day, you included."
Moira Sloan asked, "What ti tonight?"
"Eight o’clock?" Finn Fuller suggested.
Moira Sloan agreed imdiately. "That works."
After hanging up with Finn Fuller, Moira Sloan spun her phone in her hand.
’I’m curious to see what kind of rogues’ gallery Finn Fuller has lined up for tonight,’ she thought.
After lying in bed a little longer, Moira Sloan got up to wash her face and brush her teeth.
As soon as she opened her bedroom door, she saw Connor Quinn in the kitchen making breakfast.
Still feeling the emotional whiplash from yesterday, Moira Sloan walked straight into the bathroom without a sideways glance.
When she ca out, she strode to the kitchen doorway, crossed her arms, and leaned against the fra. "I’m going to Atheria today. I won’t be at the shop, and I won’t be back tonight."
His back was to her. "Business?" Connor Quinn asked in a low voice.
Moira Sloan replied, "Official business."
Connor Quinn asked again, "When are you coming back?"
Moira Sloan scoffed. "Co back for what? To watch you give the cold shoulder?"
The mont she said it, Connor Quinn’s back went rigid.
Then, he reached out, turned off the stove, and strode over to the doorway.
Moira Sloan looked up at him. He towered over her, but her presence was just as formidable.
They locked eyes. Without a word, Connor Quinn’s Adam’s apple bobbed once before he lowered his head and kissed her.
Moira Sloan struggled unhappily, but Connor Quinn just held her tighter. When the kiss ended, he looked at her and said with a sense of helplessness, "I’m not allowed to fall in love with you. I’m not allowed to get angry. I’m not allowed to defy you in the slightest. Moira Sloan, were you like this with Shane Jennings, too?"
The ntion of Shane Jennings was like prodding a raw nerve. Moira Sloan’s eyebrows shot up instantly.
Seeing her reaction, Connor Quinn’s jaw tightened.
But in the next second, Moira Sloan bit out through clenched teeth, "You ntioning his na is even more disgusting than you bringing up my criminal record."
Hearing her words, the tension on Connor Quinn’s face instantly vanished.
Noticing the subtle shift in his expression, Moira Sloan let out a mocking laugh. "Connor Quinn, you’re pathetic. I’ve got you completely wrapped around my little finger."
Connor Quinn lowered his gaze to her and didn’t argue.
Moira Sloan’s mood improved slightly during breakfast.
The delicious breakfast was the main reason why.
After they ate, she watched Connor Quinn bustling about. She lazily picked up her phone and typed a question into a search app: "How to make a man get sick of you in a short amount of ti?"
The replies were bizarre and varied, but the three with the most likes were at the top.
Number one: The desire to share. Share every single detail of your life with him.
Number two: Be clingy. The clingier, the better. Ideally, to the point of being completely unreasonable.
The poster for number two even gave an example: For instance, try to kiss and cuddle him while he’s in the middle of a ga. Guaranteed to annoy him instantly.
Number three: Be good to him. The better you treat him, the faster he’ll get fed up.
After reading the top three, Moira Sloan chuckled.
’Aren’t these just things that couples in love normally do?’
’Do n really find that stuff annoying?’
’Tsk. If n like that really exist, they must be gluttons for punishnt.’
’Do they want to find a woman who has no desire to share with them, isn’t clingy, and doesn’t treat them well?’
Finding it amusing, Moira Sloan took a screenshot and sent it to Flora Rhodes.
Flora Rhodes replied instantly: It’s totally true!!
Moira: ?
Flora: n are creatures who always need to feel a sense of novelty. Take you and Shane Jennings, for example. You were both busy as hell, so when you occasionally had a romantic, candlelit dinner, it was full of passion. If you and Shane had been like you and Connor Quinn are now, you two would have gone your separate ways a long ti ago.
Moira Sloan’s eyes narrowed slightly as she read between the lines of the text, mulling over the aning.
’She had to admit, sotis even twisted logic has a point.’
If she and Shane Jennings had really been like she and Connor were now... well, she and Connor had already been sleeping together for seven years.
No commitnt of marriage, no legal bond of a certificate.
’Tsk. It really was a drag.’
Just as Moira Sloan was getting sidetracked by Flora Rhodes’s ideas, Connor Quinn strode out of the kitchen. He crossed the room in a few quick steps, bent down, and swept her into his arms.
Moira Sloan raised an eyebrow. "??"
Connor Quinn’s expression was casual. "Aren’t you leaving? Let get you full and satisfied first. I don’t want you going out for a snack elsewhere."
