Moira Sloan had just closed WeChat when she received the ssage from Connor Quinn.
She stared at the notification for a few seconds, then her slender finger tapped it open. With a slight arch of her brow, she slowly typed a single question mark: ?
Even though they were fellow disciples from the sa school, Moira Sloan didn’t think her relationship with her Eldest Martial Brother was close enough for him to be asking about such things.
Him: Just curious.
Moira: Oh.
’What does this have to do with ?’
’He says he’s "just curious," and I’m supposed to explain everything?’
’Does he think I’m Google or sothing?’
After waiting for a while, all Connor Quinn got was a single "Oh." He tightened his grip on his phone but didn’t text back.
It was an unspoken rule among adults: no response was an answer in itself.
anwhile, Caleb Lockwood was texting Rowan Churchill: "Third Brother, you think there’s a chance the guy our Junior Sister was talking about is actually our Eldest Brother?"
Rowan: Have so confidence.
It clicked for Caleb. He got the hint imdiately. "You an, I should drop the ’you think there’s a chance’ part?"
Rowan: I didn’t say a thing.
Caleb: ???
The two of them were in the middle of a heated discussion when they were suddenly added to a group chat.
When they saw who the group admin was, they both went silent.
Connor Quinn: You two seem very curious about things between and Moira Sloan.
Caleb: J-just a little.
Connor Quinn: Just a little?
Rowan: Eldest Brother, I’m not curious.
Connor Quinn: Caleb, what are you curious about? Tell , and I’ll clear things up for you.
Caleb: Eldest Brother, I was just kidding! I’m not curious at all, really.
Connor Quinn: Mm.
Caleb: ...
Rowan: ...
Now they had a perfect, real-life example of the old saying: "Four people in a dorm room, eight different group chats."
A few minutes later, Connor Quinn returned to his room.
Lying in the master bedroom, Moira Sloan heard him enter and pursed her lips.
Sotis she found Connor Quinn to be a real drag. He had so many rules and boundaries, and you never knew what word or action might cross one of his invisible lines.
Moira Sloan set her phone down, rolled over, and went to sleep.
She woke up in the middle of the night, unable to fall back asleep, and found herself staring at the ceiling.
’Was I really being too much of a player?’
Just as Moira Sloan was lost in thought, a knock ca from outside her bedroom door.
The door then opened, and Connor Quinn stood in the doorway. "What you said earlier," he said, his voice hoarse, "I agree to it."
Moira Sloan’s mind was still a ss, so it took her a mont to process his words. "Huh?"
Connor Quinn said, "You said you wanted to keep this kind of relationship... no dating, no marriage, but with genuine feelings, right? I agree."
Moira Sloan froze.
A mont later, she recovered. A smile played on her red lips, and a flash of undisguised triumph lit up her eyes. "Alright, then."
Her tone was deceptively sweet, dripping with a playful, wicked charm.
After Moira Sloan spoke, Connor Quinn just responded with a simple "Mm" before closing the door and retreating.
Staring at the closed door, Moira Sloan twirled a strand of hair around her finger. All her earlier worries evaporated in an instant. She rolled over and slept soundly.
「The next day.」
When Moira Sloan woke up, Connor Quinn had already prepared breakfast.
She glanced over at the dining table, and her eyes instantly lit up.
There was her favorite red bean pie, and even so stead custard buns.
And best of all, they were completely homade.
In a fantastic mood, Moira Sloan went to the bathroom to get ready. When she ca out, she walked up to Connor Quinn, who was ladling out porridge in the kitchen, and teased, "Boss Quinn, do all those apprentices at your shop know how dostic you are?"
Connor Quinn’s voice was deep. "As long as you know, that’s enough."
The smile on Moira Sloan’s face deepened, but she offered no reply.
After breakfast, Moira Sloan put on so light makeup and hitched a ride to the shop with Connor Quinn.
As was their usual routine, he dropped her off a short distance from their shops, and she walked the rest of the way.
She had just stepped out of the car and was making her way forward on her high heels when a rather plaintive voice called out from behind her, "Moira Sloan..."
