Fang Huai walked to the shore and looked down again.
"Do we have diving lights?"
Cao Yi hurried over to grab him.
"Don’t go down! It’s very dangerous! Even if we’re going to go, we should wait until daylight and let the brothers from Southwest Guizhou Special Services launch kayaks as live-bait protection!"
Fang Huai waved his hand and said while looking below,
"I’m not going, or you can just bring a flashlight, and also a rope. I’ll just take a look at the edge of the water!"
Only then did Cao Yi nod and head over to the fire truck.
He was back soon.
But with him ca a captain clad in camouflage and several others in ergency rescue suits.
Fang Huai, for the convenience of entering the water, was also wearing camouflage.
The captain ca over, glanced at his epaulet, and then turned his head around, looking everywhere before asking,
"Where is Captain Fang?"
Fang Huai’s lips twitched, "Hello, I am he."
Cao Yi also smiled awkwardly, "Fang Huai has been promoted; it’s just that his insignia isn’t updated yet."
Now, several people behind him were utterly stunned.
Damn, promoted in his first year?!
But upon hearing the na, the captain moved in closer and took a good look at Fang Huai’s face.
"Oh! Brother, it’s you! Wangmo, the reservoir! I’ve seen you! You were very brave! Instructor Li even said you should give us a lecture! You’ve been promoted?"
Fang Huai then smiled and extended his hand, "Captain Zhao, right? Hello, we have t twice, and there was another ti during the joint earthquake exercise of our three detachnts."
Captain Zhao’s face lit up with surprise.
"Yes, yes! But that ti, you were the examiner setting the questions! You... know my na?"
Cao Yi laughed, "Fang Huai never forgets a face; he is our squadron’s live monitor."
"A prodigy!" Captain Zhao shook Fang Huai’s hand vigorously before smacking his lips, "With such a prodigy getting promoted, it’s only natural!"
Fang Huai imdiately said, "You’re too kind, Captain Zhao."
Captain Zhao laughed heartily, "With you here, we have another brain on the team! This corpse... the victim has really given us a headache! I heard you want to go down. Do you have any bright ideas?"
Fang Huai smiled.
Then, pointing at the water, he said,
"The water current speed hasn’t had any significant changes in the past couple of days, has it?"
"Hmm... no, not really, it’s all more or less the sa."
Only then did Fang Huai nod and say,
"To wash away a body weighing over 100 pounds that hasn’t decomposed, the water current speed must be greater than the volu of the object in cubic ters per second. On my way here, Instructor Cao said the person weighed 150 pounds and was of average build. I did so rough calculations, and logically, the current speed should only be close to the critical point.
That is to say, if it were a normal situation and the person, though drunk, wasn’t unconscious, entering the water would surely result in struggle. Odds are, the person wouldn’t face down in this scenario, hence upon death, the person’s lungs and stomach would fill with water; with no air inside, the body should sink to the bottom."
Captain Zhao imdiately shook his head, "The body’s been down there for so long, it should be decomposing and starting to float up."
Fang Huai nodded, "Right, what I an is, initially, the density of this person was high, so they might not have been washed away. Until you received the report and ca here around 10 o’clock last night, beginning your tiered search, the person might still have been around here."
He motioned a circle over the water in front of him, then continued,
"And I only found out upon arrival that the temperature here is a lot higher than in Guiyang; even at night, it’s around twenty-six or twenty-seven degrees, let alone during the harsh sunlight of dayti.
Under such conditions, in seven or eight hours, the body would start to decompose.
Thirty hours have passed by now, and the person should have already experienced Titan’s Condition, which ans the body would be less dense, filled with air, and swollen, tending to float. Even a slight current could wash the body away.
Moreover, a person who was 150 pounds is probably swollen to at least 250 pounds by now. To be washed away, the nets you have down there couldn’t possibly have missed them."
Captain Zhao frowned, "What do you an?"
Fang Huai smiled, "I an, it’s possible that the body was waiting in the water for a few hours while you were setting up the nets and only started to float and get carried away afterwards. Plus, once it passed through the downstream waterline where the currents are turbulent, it should’ve been easily spotted. Since you haven’t found anything up until now, he must’ve gotten tangled up in sothing here."
Captain Zhao listened feeling chills.
Damn, what’s with this "waiting for us," "showing up," "getting snagged"? Brother, can you not use such creepy words?
"But... people have searched below!"
Fang Huai imdiately countered, "How did they search? For how long?"
Captain Zhao shook his head, "They went in from the shore here. It’s not very deep, just a dozen ters down to the bottom, and can even be reached by free diving. Our squadron searched here for a whole day yesterday, marking spots and going down in shifts, all the way to the bottom. We’ve covered this area."
"What about farther out?" Fang Huai pointed to the water so distance away.
"Gets deep over there, several dozen ters," Captain Zhao said with so disbelief. "But as you also said, the body was heavy when it first entered the water; it can’t just randomly float away, right? Even if it does float, it should follow the current downstream!"
Fang Huai had a vague idea in his mind.
"It’s too early to say now. Let’s dive in and have a look when it gets light."
"Alright! You’ve got wide awake now; I was going to sleep, but not anymore. Let’s go, Instructor Cao, Captain Fang, I’ll take you to Car 1 in the front to rest!"
Fang Huai replied with a smile, "I’m not tired either, Instructor Cao can go. I’ll just sit here for a while, waiting to see the sunrise."
Cao Yi, yawning, nodded his head.
But Captain Zhao insisted on pulling onto Fang Huai.
