Chapter 524: Chapter 519: An Unexpected Encounter With the Eldest Sister-in-Law
“Pff!”
In the pitch-dark alley, a tabby cat suddenly sprang out, unafraid of Shen Yan, and crouched at her feet.
Shen Yan looked up and it seed as if water was dripping down.
“ow!”
A deep ow ca from her feet, and right after, the cat zood forward as if startled, disappearing without a trace.
“Bang!”
From a three-story building, sothing heavy smashed down.
Or rather, it was a person.
Shen Yan saw the person fall against the wall, bounced several tis, groaned in pain, curled up on the ground for a mont, then imdiately scrambled up.
Soone on the fire escape above was chasing down.
“Clang!”
A tallic object struck steel, sending sparks flying.
The person who had quickly risen turned to face Shen Yan, who stood calmly; they exchanged a fleeting glance, and the other person first revealed a look of surprise, parting their lips.
Surprise flickered in Shen Yan’s calm gaze.
“It’s you.”
“What are you spacing out for, run!”
The other person rushed over, grabbed Shen Yan’s hand, and ran.
The pursuers were getting closer.
The houses in this area were generally low, with people swiftly chasing from row to row of buildings.
“Pop!”
A barrage of gunfire swept past their side.
“Dammit,” Xiao Ling, who was pulling Shen Yan, cursed out loud.
Imdiately after, Shen Yan was pushed into a blind spot of the house: “Hide here, I’ll get rid of these persistent bastards quickly.”
Shen Yan: “…”
When Shen Yan turned to look out, she only caught a glimpse of Xiao Ling charging up the stairs like a leopard, even faster than a monkey.
The movents up two or three floors were as effortless as walking on flat ground!
Never underestimate the explosive power of a small person.
Shen Yan stepped out, and two barrels pressed against the back of her head: “Stand still.”
…
“Are you with that woman?”
“No,” Shen Yan raised her hands, responding succinctly.
“Don’t play dumb, we just saw her protecting you as you left,” the man’s voice was vicious: “Turn around.”
Shen Yan raised her hands higher, then slowly complied and turned around.
“Click.”
A fleeting shadow passed before her eyes, she snatched the equipnt, and quickly dodged another’s gunfire.
“Swoosh!”
A tal object whizzed past Shen Yan’s ear, embedding into the corner of the wall.
The next second.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
Shen Yan knocked down two large n in two strokes, lifted the equipnt in her hand, and smashed it down on the nearest one’s head.
The other tried to crawl over to pick up the dropped equipnt, but before he could reach it, a rciless boot pinned it down.
Shen Yan looked down at him from above: “Where are you guys from?”
…
“Not going to answer? Then I’ll treat you as dead n to settle things.”
Shen Yan lifted the equipnt in her hand, aiming at his head.
“We are a local rcenary group…”
Big sis, they’re just ordinary rcenaries, not dead n.
“Whack!”
Shen Yan slapped him across the face with the butt of the gun, “You think being local is so impressive?”
“No, no,” the big man said as his nose bled from the strike,
looking at the seemingly harmless yet formidable woman before him with so fear.
“Why are you after her?”
“We were hired to do a job, getting paid to solve problems for others, we’ve got to eat too…”
“Eat at the expense of a defenseless woman? That’s my sister-in-law you’re ddling with,” Shen Yan spun out another kick, smacking the big man’s head with a thud.
The big man clutched his head: “Sis, sorry, we didn’t know she was your sister-in-law. Also, that woman nad Xiao Ling is far from weak; she’s stronger than ten n.”
“Did I allow you to speak?” Shen Yan kicked him in the shoulder, “No matter how strong, she’s still a woman. A bunch of n ganging up on one woman, what kind of n does that make you?”
“Ptui!”
Shen Yan lifted the weapon in her hand and shot towards the big man’s legs.
The big man instinctively covered his groin, “…”
“Talk, which hired group? I might pay a visit when I have the ti.”
“…”
“Not talking?” Shen Yan narrowed her eyes.
The big man imdiately gave a na.
Shen Yan smashed the weapon in her hand and turned to look outside, listening for movent, “Go back and tell your boss, I’ll be visiting your group soon.”
“…May I ask for the na of the big sister?”
Shen Yan turned around with a malicious smile, “Your big sis.”
“…”
*
“How did you get out here?”
After finally dealing with the nuisance, Xiao Ling hurried back to look for Shen Yan, only to find Shen Yan strolling out as usual.
Shen Yan said, “I saw you were taking too long to return, got a bit worried.”
Xiao Ling looked behind her repeatedly, and, noticing no signs of anyone else, let her guard down.
“Why are you here? Alone?”
“I had sothing to take care of,” Shen Yan gestured behind her, “What’s with you?”
“What else could it be, old adversaries hiring people against us, but for so reason, operations in one place just ceased. I was wondering…”
“Is there sothing special about the people from that place?” Shen Yan imdiately asked.
“They’re strong!” Xiao Ling’s eyes hardened when she ntioned this.
For Xiao Ling to describe them in such terms was a testant to their strength.
Shen Yan was pretty sure it was the people from the base.
How could they not be strong.
Before her ti, they had already been trained to be exceptionally skilled, and with her genes to assist, they beca even stronger.
“Shen Yan?”
“Huh?”
“Your brother…” Xiao Ling hesitated as she broached the subject of Shen Zheng.
“My brother’s fine,” Shen Yan raised her head to look at the cold sky, “It’s New Year’s Day.”
“Is it New Year’s Day?” Xiao Ling was caught off guard by the ntion, her mind drifting to past mories.
However, she didn’t dwell much on it.
The last ti she t Shen Zheng was also during the New Year period; a whole year had passed without her realizing it.
Xiao Ling snapped back to the present and looked at Shen Yan, noticing a deep, flickering sorrow in her eyes: “Shen Yan, is sothing troubling you?”
“I’m fine, what could possibly be bothering ,” Shen Yan forced a smile, “Where do we go now?”
“Where are you staying?”
“I didn’t book a hotel,” she didn’t need a place to stay, anywhere would do for a night.
“You can co with , I have a house just ahead,” Xiao Ling owned quite a few properties, almost in every country.
“I’ll listen to big sis.”
“Cough!” Xiao Ling coughed unnaturally, “I’m not quite there yet.”
“Soon enough,” Shen Yan smiled, “And those guys? Won’t they co after us again?”
“They won’t,” Xiao Ling stated confidently, “They only got the best of because I was injured earlier, they only have numbers on their side.”
Shen Yan didn’t pry into how they had managed to provoke their opponents to such an extent.
“It might be dangerous staying close to …”
“I’ll be fine,” Shen Yan said, unfazed.
Seeing that Shen Yan truly wasn’t afraid, Xiao Ling led her to her own place.
