Chapter 506: Chapter 501: Private Talk
“From Boyuan’s words, it’s clear they have other preparations,” Qi Si said, looking at Shen Yan. “I’ll handle the trash behind.”
After a brief silence, Wang Jue was the first to speak.
Zhai Hongshen said, “We won’t ask how Shen Yan got involved with these people, but you must ensure her safety.”
Du Yundan remained silent, leaning back in his chair. He was injured by a kick from Qi Si and his wound still throbbed mildly.
“They’re not sothing you can handle,” Qi Si said coolly.
“Since the opponent is so tough, we can’t let you act alone,” Wang Jue said, frowning and stepping closer, glaring at Qi Si. “We couldn’t help you last ti, but this ti I don’t want you to get stuck in the mire for Shen Yan. We are your friends first, and it’s only natural we think of you first.”
Qi Si’s gaze turned colder. “Are you asking to give up on Yanyan?”
“Don’t be angry yet,” Du Yundan stood up. “Didn’t you hear Wang Jue? We are your friends first.”
“If your protection ans turning a blind eye to Yanyan’s situation, then it’s not needed,” Qi Si retorted coldly.
“We’re not advising you to do that, just reminding you not to put yourself in an irredeemable situation,” Du Yundan said sternly, his gaze fixing on Qi Si. “We don’t want to lose you, and surely Boyuan wouldn’t want to arrest soone himself.”
“It won’t co to that. It’s ti,” Qi Si said lightly.
With those words, he turned and walked away, ignoring their calls from behind him.
*
It was the sa square, and Shen Yan’s car stopped along with the convoy. She hadn’t stepped out yet when she saw the group of people standing in front of the square.
Shen Yan recognized so familiar faces.
They were from the sa departnt.
She had used Zhaoqing before to bring things to light, and since then, Zhaoqing hadn’t appeared again, although ssages had been sent to her in between.
When Shen Yan got out of the car, several middle-aged n in the front turned to look at her.
Their deanor alone revealed their high status.
They knew Shen Yan.
Li Xu’s death had made the departnt’s bosses recognize Shen Yan, and his choice to trust her at that ti was enough to show her good character.
Thus, they had a very favorable impression of Shen Yan.
Shen Yan nodded slightly to them.
From several ters away, Shen Wenhong observed her subtle movents keenly.
Shen Wenhong’s eyes narrowed slightly.
His mind was filled with speculation.
If Shen Yan seed to have a good relationship with these people, could it be that the detention of Jian Yu was orchestrated by her?
And Qi Si was just a decoy.
Thinking of how Shen Yan had played them, Shen Wenhong’s view of her turned even colder.
With such an intense gaze from Shen Wenhong, how could Shen Yan not feel it?
She looked in Shen Wenhong’s direction, a cold smile curling her lips.
As if provoked, Shen Wenhong’s expression changed.
“Shen Yan, co here,” the person in charge waved her over.
Under Vice Dean Shao and others’ gaze, Shen Yan walked towards them, now truly facing Shen Wenhong up close.
The person in charge introduced Shen Yan to the people from that departnt, his words filled with admiration for her.
Of course, the people from the departnt acted like they knew nothing, their remarks also filled with admiration.
Shen Yan greeted them with a smile.
The base team stood helplessly watching their et-and-greet turn into a private chat session, giving Shen Wenhong a further sense of being toyed with.
Was Shen Yan putting on a show for them?
The familiarity from just now, yet now they’re polite for whom?
Wenhong’s gaze turned towards the square outside, recalling what Shen Feng had said last night, his expression darkened slightly.
He wondered what Yanyan had said to Shen Feng that made him question their parents.
Was Yanyan trying to divide the unity of the Shen Family?
No matter what Yanyan was doing now, it made Wenhong highly suspicious.
Their conversation was restrained, turning towards the matter at hand.
The person in charge glanced at Yanyan and said to Wenhong, “Dr. Shen, we have prepared a eting room for you, please.”
“Thank you.”
Wenhong turned around and spoke a few words to the group of predominantly international researchers behind him, then he proceeded to et with Yanyan alone.
Everyone agreed.
However, the research institute had concerns, they did not want Yanyan to be alone with Wenhong.
Who knew if Wenhong was a beast in scholar’s clothing?
*
As the two headed towards the inner corridor, the person in charge led the crowd to another large hall; Yanyan and Wenhong had their talk, and the others naturally sat down for a proper discussion.
In the form of a eting, they sat in a semi-circle, the two sides distinctly marked.
The base team started by putting pressure on the research institute, but the institute was not afraid, aggressively retorting right from the start.
This was their turf, why fear the base team’s pressure?
*
The door slamd shut.
Inside, near the wall, there was a long conference table. The room was wide and high, making the two individuals seem rather small inside.
The atmosphere grew slowly tense as the two maintained their silence.
Yanyan stood opposite, watching Wenhong with a light smile.
Wenhong did not speak first either.
The two remained silent throughout, communicating solely through their icy stares.
After what seed like an eternity, Yanyan quietly gestured for Wenhong to “please” begin.
Wenhong walked over and sat down across the conference table.
Yanyan followed, sitting opposite him, and they once again looked at each other silently.
The arc-shaped conference table was not too distant, so every subtle movent was clearly visible to each.
Staying stiff like this was no solution, Yanyan laid back comfortably with both hands behind her.
“Dr. Shen, please speak freely; you are guests here. As the host, I should properly entertain so that you won’t complain about our hospitality once you leave,” Yanyan said.
“Your way of hosting isn’t bad,” Wenhong replied dryly, his voice tinged with sarcasm.
“That’s what I should do,” Yanyan leaned forward, placing her hands on the table, her smile ever-present yet her eyes devoid of mirth, “So, shall we begin now?”
“Those two experintal results, where did you steal them from?” Wenhong asked coldly.
Yanyan chuckled, “Dr. Shen, why not directly ask whether they were stolen from your laboratory?”
“So, you admit it?”
“Without proof, why don’t you bring evidence to convincingly slap in the face?”
Yanyan gave a sly smile, confident that Wenhong had no evidence.
Wenhong indeed had no evidence; even presenting hidden failures would not be convincing.
Since Yanyan’s research direction differed from theirs, and their base showed no clear signs of intrusion, finding any “evidence” of Yanyan’s ‘cri’ was impossible.
Wenhong coldly stated, “You are counting on this fact, acting so brazenly.”
“Dr. Shen didn’t co back personally just for this, did he?” Yanyan’s smile deepened.
Wenhong suddenly placed his hands on the table, staring coldly at Yanyan.
